  • INFAMOUS AMERICA presented by Black Barrel Media. A few days before Christmas in 1968, two teenagers from Vallejo, California go on their first date. They park at a lover’s lane pullout off of a dark road outside of town. Within an hour, a stranger parks near their car. He forces the kids out of their car, and then shoots and kills them. Investigators are baffled. There are few clues, no leads, and no suspects. Someone committed a brutal double murder with no motive, and a mystery begins.

I know it doesn’t really pertain but it’s damn good to know you’re obviously a fellow Zeppelin fan!🤘✌️

I find it very interesting that Betty Lou wrote about a “Richard” on a note before the night of the murder.. and Darlene Ferrin told Michael Mageau that a “Richard” might be following them? Then the very first police officer to arrive at the Blue Rock Springs scene wearing street clothes and an unmarked police car has the first name “Richard”. 👀

Certainly interesting about Jensens writing. Hoffman was cleared at the time, he was the first officer on scene and had been out there checking the area a half hour prior. Plus he was riding a motorcycle, not sure how it became a thing he drove an unmarked cop car. I used to think it was Hoffman myself but it just doesn’t quite add up, imo the killer was Donald Bujok.

If I remember correctly the city of Vallejo is named for a military General in early California. His wife was named Benicia and the city named for her was once the state capital.

I listened to this a second time. I wish you had mentioned Apollo 8 orbiting the moon December, 1968

Some of the interviews regarding this murder and the couple later the next year mentioned game poachers. An old poachers trick (back then) was to tape a flashlight to the gun. The pistol probably used in this murder came in a 7.5 inch barrel model. Easy to tape a flashlight to it. The killer wasn't shooting at Betty in the dark, she was illuminated.

You mention that they thought the killer used one of two 22LR handguns, and you list them as "the same gun, just made by two different manufacturers".
High Standard was the manufacturer of that design. JC Higgins didn't actually make guns. That was a brand name that was made up by Sears and Roebuck, because they wanted to sell guns but were reluctant to put the Sears name on it. Sears WOULD put their name on some guns, but the JC Higgins brand eventually took over. They would contract various manufacturers across the nation to build specific guns, and then they'd have the guns labeled for their own house brand.
They were usually considered "working man guns" because they were well built, but no frills and modestly priced. I actually have a JC Higgins 12ga shotgun that was built by High Standard. It's from the 50's and still runs like a sewing machine.
