i kinda hate how people never took this opening era and song seriously... like this "MAMA" concept is their actual group concept, the fact that they're aliens sent here with powers to help the darkness in the world disappear and they're confused and shocked with how corrupt and infected it is here on earth. i really always loved their first songs and the deep lyrics behind them and what they meant to communicate to the audience, in telling their concept and group's story yet also bringing to light actual issues. EXO always 💯

Not is it ridiculously accurate of a large part of the society we will in, but also our future. It's no wonder the chord progression in this is so spine-chilling! The lyrics are rediculously accurate, even 11+ years later. We live in a society where we're constantly connected to social media and can't make enough time to connect to the people around us instead; so judgemental of ourselves because of people on the internet becoming famous due to websites/apps like TH-cam, Twitch, TikTok, etc. and not being allowed to just be ourselves! This is the best K-Pop song ever!!!
Tbh I wish Exo still made bangers like this one. The theme is so chilling and makes me fear for the future. I think this song in particular shows a preview of what Exo could have continued doing; singing about unfortunate possibilities and directions that our world is taking. Just an opinion, obviously I'm an Exo-L lmao
vida clifford As you notice, I wrote that comment a while ago now.. It took me about two days to learn their names and face an memorize them, but don't give up! WATCH EXO NEXT DOOR. It's a hilarious 16 episode show, and it reaaaaallllyy helped me learn their names and faces. As well as, watch learnkpopnameswithme. It's an awesome channel that has many videos of bands and the members' names when they come on the screen. You'll learn easily, good luck! Fighting!
Them: all exo songs are talking about love bla bla blah while our faves talk about society Exo: Exo was the first to release a song with a deep message compare to your fave 🙄🙄🙄🙄
I don't want to compare as well but I get your point. Some fans from a certain fandom always brag about how their faves sings about the society when you could clearly tell they haven't heard or read the lyrics of "MAMA" yet. It's just a bit sad, this song should be heard by many people.
+Mia Barbour When I first knew that mv I really got scared but when I looked at their handsome faces, my fear disappeared and replaced with fangirling over them. So not only you who got scared at the intro of this song haha.
At first, i thought this song is about a boy who wants to be in love with a girl but his "mama" stopped him... But.. i didn't expect to be like this!!! EXO IS UNPREDICTABLE!!!
Damn. This hurts. Die, kill, fight, shout. This is not a war? Painful reality? This song is made back then but it should be for now. So many deaths in a week. So many fanwars... So much violence in general. We need to grow up. *!! Please spread a warning anywhere you can of how foolish we act !!*
that y they release more love songs now because people bullied them for this song when it got released. So SM won't mostly do love song but alot of their b-side have meaningful songs. i can recommend
The first time I read the lyrics to this song, I thought it was exactly how the lyrics were meant to be, you know like help me your Majesty with all these things. But coming back after a few months, I took the lyrics differently. If you read in between the lines sometimes it feels as though they are referring their feelings to the members who left. Like "Why won't we communicate? Why won't we love?" and "We shed tears at the painful reality once again." and other lyrics. I don't know this song just makes me think that EXO-K is talking about Kris, Luhan, and Tao leaving.
Yes the words in this song does seem to apply to the 3 members who had left but if you remember this song came out shortly after they made their debut.
i LOVE the heaviness of this song compared to other kpop songs bc im like into rock and metal and shit so this is gold, especially the "breakdown" i guess and kai's "screaming" part
this song is so beautiful and the fact that it was one of their firsts is mind-boggling. i wish they did more concepts like this rather than the love trope most artists are doing now, but their music has always been great no matter the genre. can't wait for more great comebacks from exo! :)
It's my first time reading the lyrics of this song and I am unable to explain how much power each word of this song holds. It truly depicts the modern day society. Kudos to the writer.
The harmonies and high notes are still some of the best I've ever heard. I really hope never groups prioritize singing the way Exo did. Especially I want to see more groups with harmonies as strong as this
This is the first time i listen to exo and HOOOLLLYYY SSSHHHIIIITTT. These voices...the harmonies are so beautifully haunting and it just...ugh...you could say it *SINGS* to me....ewe Okay, but all jokes aside, as an Army listening to EXO for the first time, it makes me wonder why other groups (yes, that includes bts) don't work with complex harmonies like these. They are so beautifully done! Good job to EXO for singing so amazingly on point! :D
Kabzi캅지 I am an ARMY and an EXO-L, and I definitely agree that BTS doesn't harmonize very much. I'm not saying anything against them, of course! It's probably because half the group are rappers, but even among the vocal line, there's not much harmonizing. In songs like House of Cards, one or two members sing together, but the whole band never sings together like EXO does. That's why I like listening to lots of different groups. You get all kinds of different styles!
the bts vocal line is weak(er), and still is. their group was focused on a hip hop style from the beginning, so the vocal line naturally is much weaker than their rap line. bts is mostly unable to harmonize successfully, their voices are more suited for singing solo lines.
Noooooo I'm being dragged into yet another fandom! This is Kai's fault. Omg Kai. I have listened to EXO for a while and only knew Kai and that he was hot, then i decided to learn more about EXO and Kai is the same height as me, his voice is amazing, he seems to sing many of my favourite parts. I don't know. He is my ideal type.
i kinda hate how people never took this opening era and song seriously... like this "MAMA" concept is their actual group concept, the fact that they're aliens sent here with powers to help the darkness in the world disappear and they're confused and shocked with how corrupt and infected it is here on earth. i really always loved their first songs and the deep lyrics behind them and what they meant to communicate to the audience, in telling their concept and group's story yet also bringing to light actual issues.
I remember when i watched Mama MV for the first time, I was scared 😂😂 and the song was scary too.
Bruhhhh 😂😂😂😂 I thought it was funny because it has that Lion King-y vibe 😭😭😂😂
I got shocked when i heard Kai 'screaming'
I didn't expected that to happen.
Same 😂😂
Lol we have the same first name
same😂
I'm a new EXO-L, and I am currently obsessed with this song. I can't stop listening to it, it's been on repeat for two days.
why are you me right now?? except I'm trying to learn the members of exo, like the main group and its SO HARDDD
vida clifford As you notice, I wrote that comment a while ago now.. Fighting!
+Amelia Oprean I noticed and thanks so much for the tips!
vida clifford No problem, I wish you luck!
Pls only EXO can bring these kind of masterpiece back 😭
Them: all exo songs are talking about love bla bla blah while our faves talk about society
Exo:
Exo was the first to release a song with a deep message compare to your fave 🙄🙄🙄🙄
I don't want to compare as well but I get your point. Some fans from a certain fandom always brag about how their faves sings about the society when you could clearly tell they haven't heard or read the lyrics of "MAMA" yet. It's just a bit sad, this song should be heard by many people.
Was I the only who got scared when the song started?😂
me too 😂
Yeah, this is my first time listening to this XD
+Mia Barbour When I first knew that mv I really got scared but when I looked at their handsome faces, my fear disappeared and replaced with fangirling over them. So not only you who got scared at the intro of this song haha.
I'm scared too....I'm more scared when I saw their Music Video When they're all wearing capes
+Mia Barbour Kai scared me at first with that whole scream thing and then I started laughing...every time now I laugh.
The singing parts in this song are actually SO GOOD. I love when they say Mama. My favorite part is D.O.'s singing part at the beginning.
D.O. is the best in this song. I love his parts.
Same here love D. O aswell!!!
Same. I'm obsessed with his voice ❤
The meaning behind this song is never loses it’s power, even after 6 years. Army here to support EXO and EXO-Ls!🤧
This song holds so much meaning in 2020 during these times
This song is so powerful. The lyrics, the vocals, the meaning of the song... its deep. And the fact that exo are rookies in this era
army here supporting exo!
Lu Snasley GOD BLESS YOU
we need more of people like you
Thank you so much 。^‿^。
lee btshinee YASSS
Same here woohoo
So, MAMA means Your Majesty? *oh god*
천지 신명.... 신위.... 살아있는 엄마 아빠가 아닌 조상님들.... 제사....
It's also can refer to "God"
Oh
In the Philippines it's Mom
I've been calling my mom MAJESTY?!
At first, i thought this song is about a boy who wants to be in love with a girl but his "mama" stopped him... But.. i didn't expect to be like this!!! EXO IS UNPREDICTABLE!!!
Holy shhh~~
lol
This song was ahead of its time
Can’t believe I was still playing with My Little Pony when this bop was released.
Omg you unlocked a memory 🤣
Hahahha lol
All EXO members have amazing voices, but D.O.'s voice is just wonderful!
did anyone else think of death note when they read the lyrics or
Yeesss
Me
EXO's songs have the most beautiful and spiritual meanings ⭐️
Damn. This hurts.
Die, kill, fight, shout. This is not a war? Painful reality? This song is made back then but it should be for now. So many deaths in a week. So many fanwars... So much violence in general. We need to grow up. *!! Please spread a warning anywhere you can of how foolish we act !!*
the lyrics is so meaningful and beautiful. idk how to express it but i really love it.
that y they release more love songs now because people bullied them for this song when it got released. So SM won't mostly do love song but alot of their b-side have meaningful songs. i can recommend
3:27 the way they say mama.......
Satan's lost daughter bru 😂😂💀
Satan's lost daughter in my country, mama means tits, so i laugh a lot with this
The first time I read the lyrics to this song, I thought it was exactly how the lyrics were meant to be, you know like help me your Majesty with all these things. But coming back after a few months, I took the lyrics differently. If you read in between the lines sometimes it feels as though they are referring their feelings to the members who left. Like "Why won't we communicate? Why won't we love?" and "We shed tears at the painful reality once again." and other lyrics. I don't know this song just makes me think that EXO-K is talking about Kris, Luhan, and Tao leaving.
even though it was their debut song...
+Oj Gosh naah our brain is designed to find these kind of things they really dont say anything about members leaving in this song
oh ok
+Oj Gosh as a self fulfilling prophecy? Damn creepy!
Yes the words in this song does seem to apply to the 3 members who had left but if you remember this song came out shortly after they made their debut.
BaekHyun ❤
MINE!!!
This song was ahead of its time though. Periodt 💅🏻
I am obsessed with D.O's voice
I could listen to him all day
fuck this song goes hardcore
Kai: Mama
Suho: What?
Kai: Mama..
Suho: What?..
Kai: Mama..!
Suho: What..?!
Kai: MAMA!
Suho: WHAT?!
Kai: I love you. *smiles widely*
Suho: Boy, you better be lucky you're loved back.
😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂 lol that was so funny
😆😆😆😆
The part of MAMA which I feel awkward about......Him practically moaning mama
@@muskanverma9301 Omg that was what I was thinking too
i LOVE the heaviness of this song compared to other kpop songs bc im like into rock and metal and shit so this is gold, especially the "breakdown" i guess and kai's "screaming" part
Its pretty late but you might like dreamcatcher :)
@@-_--sd8ju I do like them!! Especially "you and I"
@Princess Marshella Horman thats really cool! I didn't know
@@zimzalabop8585 they are actually having a comeback tomorrow (17 of august), BOCA and it sounds super good might wanna check it out🥺❤️
@@-_--sd8ju Yep I know! I'm so excited for it! JiU is my bias
Why does it feels like a poem about the society and not a song?! The whole song is a MASTERPIECE ಥ‿ಥ
the lyrics are so reality based and beautifully conveyed. This was exo's debut songs. Such a masterpiece it is. In love with this again and again.
the most powerful song EXO ever composed. brilliant lyrics with beautiful meaning and powerful voices.
this song is so beautiful and the fact that it was one of their firsts is mind-boggling. i wish they did more concepts like this rather than the love trope most artists are doing now, but their music has always been great no matter the genre. can't wait for more great comebacks from exo! :)
It's amazing how even their slogan "let's love" is connected to this song. That's why I like Exo, they make me a better person!
This is the best experimental song to come out of SM.
It's my first time reading the lyrics of this song and I am unable to explain how much power each word of this song holds. It truly depicts the modern day society. Kudos to the writer.
The harmonies and high notes are still some of the best I've ever heard. I really hope never groups prioritize singing the way Exo did. Especially I want to see more groups with harmonies as strong as this
*D.O's voice is a blessing to my ears🔥*
Why no one told me about this masterpiece ???!! , the chorus is unbelievable 👏🖤
그리고 이 노래는 요즘세상에 꼭 필요한 노래인듯.
EXO literally predicting future since 2012 🩶🩶
This is the first time i listen to exo and HOOOLLLYYY SSSHHHIIIITTT. These voices...the harmonies are so beautifully haunting and it just...ugh...you could say it *SINGS* to me....ewe
Okay, but all jokes aside, as an Army listening to EXO for the first time, it makes me wonder why other groups (yes, that includes bts) don't work with complex harmonies like these.
Kozy god yes I love when kpop groups I start listening have lots of harmonization, it's my favorite compared to single member choruses
THIS SONG REMAINS SUPERIOR. THOSE ARE SOME POWERFUL LYRICS RIGHT THERE.
God it just hits different during the pandemic...
It hits different all the time.
How many years it has been but this song still clap as always and the meaning about this good is really good and meaningful about our today's society
This song has deep meaning and there are only few songs that reflects the reality... 🥰🥰🥰
Welcome to Exo-L lol
Wait.
This band has a fandom?
Just came from BLOCK B, so I'm like... Just-born new (0- 0')
Jennifer Connolly exo's fandom is called exo-l
Chloe Jayde ME
Chloe Jayde so how you doing do you think you have become a exo-l
reading mama's lyrics in 2021 REALLY, TRULY hits different
After reading the lyrics... I remember MJ how hard he tried to open our minds about hate war and pain... Lets appreciate the message of this song 👏 👏
The message they deliver through the lyrics is amazing. This song was so ahead of it's time.
To those international fans who came here after watching the mv thinking this song has a meaning, you guys are really admirable.
