    My condolences to you Bobbi. I have 2 F Mount Voigtlander lens that I held on to, the 40 f/1.2 and 58 f/1.4, used them with the FTZ adapter and like the manual feel. Got them for my Df as I loved using all manual lens with that body, takes me back to the old days of doing everything manually. Will have to break them out once I get the Z8.

    Sorry for your loss. I often find solace in a piece of glass and the way it can remind me of how the world looked to a particular person or during a particular time in my life.
    As for this lens, I can’t say there’s too much about it that I don’t see in the Fuji 1.0 50mm or the new 56.
    But I’m in APsC world and confident I can make it as a pro with apsc until i have occasion to write off a hasselblad or GFX someday in the sky. For full frame I know it can be much finer grains of difference, especially in bokeh of 50’s.

    I like the lens, I'm on GFX and I hope they will make medium format ones for the GF mount in the future. I love the GF 80mm 1.7, it's kind of the same type of lens, with vintage character, but this is the only one I have in this category.

    You can’t shorten the adapter, but you can make it slimmer.
    When I use a manual focus lens on the Zf I use a sleek adapter from K&F Concept, when I use an AF lens I use the FTZ2.
    I like the new CV 55mm, but I already have the CV 58mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.2 AIS, so it is not highest on the list to add this one.
    Looking seriously at the CV 90mm 2.8 APO though.

      The 90 is very nice. Yes there are slimmer ones that match the look of the Zf nicely

    I got a copy, received it and sent it back the next day. At f2.8 it's not even sharp in the corners and the bokeh is a little nervous in my opinion (greenish fringe of bokeh spheres with very pronounced edges). I want my lenses to be sharp and have a nice bokeh. And if that's not possible, they should at least either have nice bokeh or be razor sharp, but this lens isn't sharp wide open, nor does it have nice bokeh.
    I know that Voigtlander lenses can be much better. Examples are the 50mm f1.2 Nokton or the 50mm f2.0 Apo Lanthar for Sony E-Mount. I love these lenses. The 50mm f1.2 Nokton has beautiful bokeh (so I don't care that it's not that sharp wide open) and the 50mm f2.0 doesn't have the prettiest bokeh, but it's razor sharp at any aperture and in the corners of the frame. Great lenses! But the 55mm f1.2 has none of that. It feels and looks like a 70's lens (which is fine), but also renders like a 70's lens (which isn't that great in my opinion). I can find a $100 vintage lens with this rendering,

    • @btonelli
      @btonelli  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is why I mentioned it renders like the 50 1.2. If one wants more modern rendering then this won’t be the lens for them

    • @stefan_becker
      @stefan_becker ปีที่แล้ว

      @@btonelli Nah. Doesn't have to be "modern", just beautiful. For example my Minolta 58mm f1.2 has a beautiful vintage rendering and (starting from f2.0) a very nice (if not legendary) bokeh.

    Sorry about your mothers passing, I dread that day as mine is her 80’s.
    Btw Voigtlander has had electronic contacts on their F mount lenses for about 10 years, the only difference here is that it’s on a f1.2 lens for the first time in F mount, largely made possible by the contacts being on the outside rather than partially obstructing the rear element.

    First off, condolences to you and your family. Second, I love the character of this lens, and I have a theory about this lens, I compared the optical formula that was shared on this lens to the Tomioka 55/1.2, and they are very similar, one element is a smidgen different shape and thickness. So, I suspect that this is based off on his old design, which kind of makes sense, since he was the one that started Cosina, who owns Voigtländer.

    P.S. - nobody can make a shorter adapter for F mount to Z mount - that length is the literal difference in the flange distance and must be exactly this length for the F mount lenses to properly project onto the image sensor.

      @btonelli  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it’s unfortunate as the adapter is on the larger size

    • @photographydiscourse1185
      @photographydiscourse1185 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@btonelli True - only cause that used to be the body width with the mirror box. The Z mount is really revolutionary - Nikon will continue to excel with lens design that are unsurpassed by others due to this exceptional mount - one of the few negatives is that the adapter from F mount consequently appears bulky - but I have to say it works exceptionally well - the F mount glass that I still use in addition to all my Z glass, work better than they ever did on DSLR - lenses like the 200 f/2, 105 1.4 E, 58 1.4 G and 28 1.4 E are all even better now with no IQ loss at all and with the benefit of 3 axis IBIS and focusing points across 90% of the frame.
      With the Z 8 its a very good time to be a Nikon shooter!
      Love the channel BTW - going to subscribe - honestly I thought I already was - must have been with my other account :)

    You didn't really talk much at all about what makes this 'special' except to say it's just like the Nikkor 50/1.2, which I think is unlikely. I know you only had 24hrs with it but pretty much everything you listed was covered in the spec sheets release by voightlander in Feb. Have you used the 58/1.4? How about the Nikkor 55/1.2? If so, how do they compare? I see some other commenters talking about how they love the rendering of this lens, which is strange to me because pretty much nobody has seen proper output from it. Even your '24 hours' with the lens only produced what, 3 or 4 shots? This video is way premature.

    • @btonelli
      @btonelli  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Thanks for watching. What makes this special is the electronic contacts to the lens which allows it to be used on more modern cameras along with the size for and some may say the optics as the prefer the look of this lens.
      I have tried the 58 1.4 it not the 55 1.2 however had used the 58 Noct (original) and also the 50 1.4 G lens. Like I said, it renders like the 50 1.2ais
      There were more than 3 to 4 shots that give an idea how the lens renders. Throughout the video I show images and compare them. Perhaps you were looking for more, and I’m sure others will produce more videos on it in time, but I wanted to give an informative first impression of the lens to give buyers an idea what this is about.

      @@deeteeohbee6794 no prob. I understand your points and I also wish I had more time for this review. I was given 24 hours which is hard to really get to know a lens.
      For me personally I will pass on this because I have the 50 1.2 and I don’t really need the electronic contacts for a manual lens. My Nikon Film cameras don’t have electronic contacts and if I adapt the lens I’m fine with manual adjustments.
      But there will be some that find this interesting and valuable so those points I try to consider in the video. Hope this helps
