The way you made the roof you could take he roof off if it isn't raining, build a 5' long fire pit in the middle, burn your fire all day in it and when it's bedtime cover it with dirt and put your roof back on. The coals will warm the dirt all night for you.

@Timothy Mckee Except the last two Republican Presidents were handed possibly the two greatest economy's ever(created by two democratic presidents) and handed over two of the worst economies ever. "Agent" 45 was handed the longest and strongest bull market in history and handed over an economy weaker than the great depression and lost more Americans to a virus that was going away in April in 6 months than America lost through 5 years of the biggest war in history of the world(Thank god the Republican FDR led the country throu... oh yeah NVM! He was a democrat too..) It's almost like hiring people with no real work experience(nevermind political experience) and only made money off their daddy's work is a bad idea.. Unless you're filthy rich, Republicans don't care about you.

Do you know what i like about this channel? We are not just going over the basics ad infinitum. All the different variations are explored. Some of the shelters are nothing but a bit of fun while others really make me sit up and take notes. I've been practising bushcraft for over 20 years and i thought i had seen everything that youtube had to offer but this channel is not only fun and not serious but it has genuinely inspired some of my own ideas and I have stolen a few of the Cpl's too.
I am so grateful for this but also for the down to earth style and lack of stupid youtube click bait.
    Thanks Cpl Kelly.

Got a suggestion for the thermal mass Corporal . Use your rocks as a base /platform under your fire . Light your fire. Get it Roaring. Let it "simmer down" , until it's ready to cook your goodies ( on top / or in ) . Feast on your meal. Transfer rocks to the channel in shelter. Just a thought . Cheers from Australia mate . C.A.F

I love this shelter and setup as you said I would like to see the trench inside longer and filled with coals then the rocks on top of those coals. Block both ends one with a wood wall covered in clay and the other with a wood door covered with clay. Then use a thermometer and see how warm it gets and how warm it stays overnight. Another great video my friend!

Possible tip for your coffee setup (which I like): pour the grounds directly into your water transferring vessel to mix and steep the grounds with the water. After a few minutes immersed, use the pop up filter in the same way to transfer the coffee water to your drinking vessel slowly but surely. This will give you a stronger coffee with a more effective use of your coffee grounds. 🙏🏼✌🏼

I think the best heating design, I have seen so far, was in one of those primitive living videos.
They built a shelter (took the time to bake clay tiles, if you can believe it), and made the shelter from them, on a basic wood frame.
What impressed me about the heating system was, they build a small chimney at one end of the shelter.
Dug a trench (similar to what was done here), through the shelter, up to the chimney.
Covered the trench, with large flat rocks and them covered them with dirt.
At the open end they built the fire.
The heat was sucked into the trench and fed out of the chimney.
Kind of a large rocket stove, and the heat radiated out of the trench to keep the shelter warm.
Hopefully this might give you an idea, for a future shelter.
I like what you did here and what you are planning to do next.
I would love to see you go to Everest.
However, if you go to the base, would you be able to live with yourself, for not trying to get to the top?
They'd be dragging me off the mountain kicking and screaming, if I didn't at least try,

And if you experience altitude sickness you can get below 10,000’ by glissading down amazingly quickly.

I love watching you build shelters. Always great shelters and your cooking skills rival your bushcraft skills. Everything you make looks really good, makes me hungry.

Awesome video. Since I’ve started watching CC my thinking has totally changed about the outdoors instead of man that would be a great place to camp. It’s now more like I bet there’s punk wood there and bow drill making materials. I currently have char wood making under my patio. Cheating a little doing it on my propane burner but if it works. Thanks for another great video Cpl Kelly

First, i truly hope you attain your dream of Everest. Second, you made my day with the Remo fire trick in the intro. You are only the second person since i left the military who knows that name. Thanks for the video. Always enjoy your videos!!

Finally, an outdoors person who uses a lighter, just like me. The number of times I have seen some poor macho man trying to start a fire with a ferro rod or other gadget he is bought from some survival store, oh dear. Please do not misunderstand me, I also have different way of fire starting but a device that will give you up to 3000 flames has to be included. Great vlog sir, keep up the good work.

Wow that set-it-and-forget cooking method just rocks man. Question though please - how long did you leave the Alu Boat in the coals? Also that fire trick at 21:55 - how did you do it please? Great post. Thank you kindly.

@Corporals Corner I'm so thrilled to see ya use old ways from back in the Trudor farm time in modern time. Yes Sir I love your hammer. I'm still looking in our trees for a rake...but unless it lands on the ground...I'm never going to get one. Due to our trees are clear up over your head (you are much taller than me ...you can laugh when I'm joking with you. ) but I've even taught my grandkids about how knowing how & doing things the old ways come in handy even now a days. Blessings!

@@recall5811 in that case Sir, why bother to bring you ferro rod or waterproof matches if you can start fires with only the strength of your fingers rubbing on wood! lol
