I've used and loved Stellarium for years even before I got into telescopes and I had no idea about the measuring tool. A big Thanks from Denver USA!

That's a great tip Jason! I hadn't come across the measuring tool, but then again when I first started using Stellarium I didn't even know where the exit button was! Thanks for sharing : )

Hey Chris. Lol.. I know what you mean, when I first booted it up I'm like "Where's all the options menu" .. Then I realised it worked like the old charm bar on Windows 8.. Remember that? 😄

It works like the auto hide task bar, if you have it set.

This is a great channel for those, just like me, who are just starting out and don’t know squat. Very informative and down to earth. Thanx for doing such a good job👍

Jason, love you sharing your astronomical field experience. I just purchased a 6" Sky Watcher Dob and using your tips right out of the box. Didn't occur to me to check Stellarium, so nice idea. Cheers from across the pond. Lou V., Vermont USA. (Hope you come and attend our Stellafane event and here someday.)

Great tips there Jason. I tend to use the app on the phone, but it looks like the full program has loads of useful features. I'll have to download it I think 😊

Unfortunately it’s not free on my iPhone and I’m actually considering buying the plus version to control my telescope and all the other extras that this opens up for £11.99. Great tips Jason 👍

Hey WeelieBin Thanks pal (love that name 😂) I'm not 100% certain that the measuring tool is available on the app version I've got the paid version and never seen it, unless it's hidden somewhere like the download version. Something for you to be aware of before forking out the cash..

Would you say that this is easier than your drawing on paper trick or just another useful technique to know? I have decent setting circles on my C-8 but your paper trick seems the best yet. K

It's just another string to your bow my friend. Having a few tricks up your sleeve really does help at times. I wouldn't say one is better than the other but the two techniques do work well together.

Have a question about Star apps. Anyone??? Tried several and all have the same issue.
    1. When I turn on the latitude and longitude lines, the longitude has no negative numbers but goes from 0-360. I'm in Florida USA and the longitude is -81w in the program setup. I know there is a E/W thing from the Merdian. So is -81w the same as 279 on the star chart?
    2. I am at latitude 30 N degrees, should not this be the horizon on my chart? My "chart" by location seems to start at 20 degrees. The location shows 30 in the setup.
I have a tablet and one phone with no built-in compass hardware and was trying to manually line things up. Also just curious.
