I am right with you from the beginning to the end . With you teaching you take all the scare factor out of the diagnosis . Some people have been in a classroom like forever and their students are intimidated by a light bulb circuit . I guess with you it comes natural , so whoop there it is . Thanks you for the videos please keep them coming .
I WILL have one of these U-Scopes soon ... 😎 Thanks for showing us all how great this thing is, Keith! 👍👍 Leave it to GM to provide another convenient demonstration ... 😁😁
I’m curious as to how diagnostic time is supposed to be charged?Because I work for a shop and they don’t charge anything for diagnostic tests only labor time for replacement of the part found to be bad after tests and of course cost of part.
If your shop is not charging for the diagnostic, I would be willing to bet my shoes that they also do not pay for training? Of course their must be a diagnostic fee. For us to obtain knowledge it's not free. For us to use that knowledge to be the best we can for that customer , should also not be free. Time spent is time charged. Any shop not doing that is destined for a financial failure. Yes the bay's will be packed, but not profitable. Where are you located?
New Level Auto you are 100 percent correct and I totally agree but my question was how is It charged by the amount of time it takes ? Like replacing a part has a labor guide to go by but diagnostic work does not have a guide
@@Tj-ev1qk it's really a discretionary call. Most shops will have a 1 hour diagnostic charge agreed upon when the vehicle is being dropped off. If after an hours time more is needed , then a call is placed to the customer with a request for additional. Almost any problem thrown our way can be diagnosed within an hour. If it's not , then only one of two things is possible. 1- the technician is not prepared for the job (education/tooling) or 2- the vehicle has a difficult access for testing processes. There are gray areas , but not many.
Is the orange electronics tool your using to back probe these connections an oscilloscope? Is that the only way to get a reading on the signal wire? Can I use my Power Probe 3? I know I can back pin the power lines and the ground, but I'm not sure how to check the signal wire. My instrument cluster has been working intermittently which I have dealt with by using Google maps for my speedometer and just keeping gas in it. But last night it over heated due to pin holes in the top of the radiator along the seam and the nipple for the top hose that is molded into the radiator is collapsing. I'm going to use a plastic welder with high heat sticks to seal off the pin holes and try to do something with the nipple until I can buy a radiator. I just need the instrument cluster working so I can keep an eye on the temp, and other issues. It's not working alone more than it's working now. It's been out for a couple months only trying to come on once and the gauges all sticking about half way.
united radio here it comes...one of the few things on chevy that if you shot the parts cannon on a guess for the cluster not working you would be correct.
Has that been an issue with the 03 trailblazer? My cluster has been intermittent for almost a year, out a few months at this point. Just noticed the other day that my cargo light flickers when I wiggle the tail gate. So I'm wondering if the cluster has anything to do with what seems a short in the cargo light. I guess I can pull the panel on the tail gate and pull the cluster and test for continuity on the wires.
The dual channel versions are slower and have a poor buffer. I have the uscope from www.aeswave.com. their support is beyond any other. I've been using them for nearly 20 years now
Keith how come your scope is orange ? The unit on AES are all black. Does it have a boot / cover on it? Have you found any glitch’s you done like ? Really thinking of picking up one. Could be a nice addition to my 4 channel.
Awesome videos. I’m a jersey local as well. Does modelElectronics work with Ford Instrument cluster ? Appreciate any feedback. Their website doesn’t seem to have a portal on mobile to see if they support this
New Level Auto I’m sorry i meant does the mcx cable have a line that comes off it? For example my ats scope has a dedicated ground wire into the scope from the car.
Keith another good video using the U-scope. If you dont mind me asking where do you send the cluster to be repaired? Just for my own info as a Diyer. Thanks much

Thank you 4 x again = multitudes of appreciation. Best birthday present ever. Thank you Keith.
Keep making videos like this, it all helps us diy non experts confidence to have a carefull go fixing stuff.
I scope, U scope, We all scope 🔬
You did the obligatory cluster video and you did it with style! Thanks!
I WILL have one of these U-Scopes soon ... 😎

Love it! That scope is awesome. Good find too Keith!
Where do we send these clusters to have them repaired?
GMs are always a cluster! ;)

If you did not get comm. on the gray wire what direction would you now take???
"Backprobe the pink.'
😂
LOL sorry Keith I had to.
And stop with the uScope vids! Ugh I'm at AES now. =/
Easy Cowboy!
Between you and Eric O at SMA I'm going to go broke, but have a tools in my home garage to make some repair shops jealous.......
united radio here it comes...one of the few things on chevy that if you shot the parts cannon on a guess for the cluster not working you would be correct.
Www.modelelectronics.com , they have the best testing facility I've ever seen for GM units
Keith said to backprobe the pink so that's what I'm gonna do!
What would be the problem to cause the power to go on and off but still drive it . But just sitting there it drains all the power
Seen a few of these have wire harness from body to rear hatch wear to the point of a wire breaking causing flickering/failed cluster

I like simple. Thanks Keith.
Once again uscope does the job.
Where did you get that tiny oscilloscope? I have a scope but it's clunky and that looks perfect
www.aeswave.com/uScope-Basic-Kit-p9621.html
That u scope
Is sweet! I need one
Mind if i ask who you send them out to? Or just a recommendation, thnx in advance
Just a quick question the mini scope your using can i get the make and model number and how thus it compare to a DSO203??
The dual channel versions are slower and have a poor buffer. I have the uscope from www.aeswave.com. their support is beyond any other. I've been using them for nearly 20 years now
@@NewLevelAuto thank you
Hey Keith just a question about the u scope. Is it fast enough to capture can communication ?
Most definitely
keith do you use model electronics? that u scope is handy!
Yessir

Yes, it comes with a boot that's orange
Really loving the videos! What program are you using for the wiring diagrams?
Alldata

The work with some models. Best option is to give them a call. They have great service
Awesome appreciate quick response time! I’ll follow up with them.
Is rebuilt ipc plug and play? Any programming?
Plug and play
Why do I want to buy a UScope after watching your videos Keith? xD
Because it's so dang convenient!
I'm in the same boat. I want .
Yes I’m wanting one now! Where are you getting the ground from into the scope? I don’t see the lead coming off if it
Instrument panel brace
