    Not sure how I have missed this video! This is the best description I have seen on interpreting dexa scores. I have seen 2 endocrinologists and a rheumatologist. None gave me this depth! Thank you for creating it and sharing it today in our fb group. I know I have been pretty stable, but will dig out my results to look at the numbers. You have given me so much help and hope. Thank you for all you do.

    Thank you! I am 61, very healthy and active but was just diagnosed with osteoporosis- not taking meds but, like you, focusing on my exercises and eating enough calcium and protein!
    Appreciate your videos and clear explanations!

    Thank you for this information. I had my first DEXA scan in October. My total spine was normal (.-9) and my total hip was -1.7. The Femoral neck was -1.4, but my trochanter was -2.8. Is it unusual that areas in the hip would have such different scores?

    • @DrLisaMooreDPT
      @DrLisaMooreDPT  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, that is unusual to have such a range. That is discordance. Recheck!

    Dr Lisa, just started watching your great videos. I have OP, I have a bad hip and also some low back issues. Do you have advice on how to modify your workout for these issues? Should I focus on upper body alone?

    • @DrLisaMooreDPT

      I always advise guidance with a bone health expert for more specific modifications.That is the safest approach. Many many options for beginning exercises on my channel. Check out the beginner playlist.

      @DrLisaMooreDPT  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To clarify, the INCREASE in BMD for post menopausal women from hormone therapy peaks at 3-4 years but the protection for bone density continues while on therapy, as there will be a rapid loss of BMD is HRT is discontinued. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5643776/ jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/211331

    Congratulations on your good results on your more recent scan! And thank you for the detailed information about the strategies you have employed between your first and second scans. If you don't mind sharing this information, I am interested in why you avoid milk. Is it just personal preference based on how you personally digest it? Or do you have concerns that it is not the best source of calcium because of absorption issues?

    • @DrLisaMooreDPT
      @DrLisaMooreDPT  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It just me, my body does not digest milk well, I do okay with yoghurt, and cheese though! Dairy can be inflammatory for some people. I think it is for me, so I am mindful of how my body is feeling and cut back on dairy and other things if I am having more joint pain.

    Thank you for sharing your experience and results. This is super helpful, as understanding a Dexa scan can be a challenge. I'm happy for you that your osteopenia is stable. Should a Dexa scan be performed yearly? Or does our body take longer than 1 year to regenerate more bone? ( with proper exercise & nutrition)

    • @DrLisaMooreDPT
      @DrLisaMooreDPT  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most US based insurance only covers it every two years. It does take time to see measurable change.

    I'm a 78-year-old male and I've been having DEXA scans since 2009. I finished a 5-year run with Fosamax that brought my hip down from -3.0 to -2.0, but after one year off it's back to -3.0. I think that's a startling increase.
    My GP is getting me a referral to an endocrinologists so I'm not looking for medical advice here. But I have a curiosity I can't find an answer for on the web.
    How far do readings go? Do patients have readings of -4.0 and -5.0 or is -3.0 the max? Should I walk slowly to a chair and sit down so I don't break something, LOL?
    Thanks for a great video!

    • @DrLisaMooreDPT
      @DrLisaMooreDPT  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes readings can go lower than -5. I have several clients in between -3 and -4 who do Brick House Bones exercises with me. They are improving in strength, balance and posture. You can too

      I was, mostly, but not perfect in any way. Not the healthiest eater in my late teens and early 20's when peak bone mass is built. Definitely had some habits that were not helpful to my bones over the years. But as we learn better, we do better. Can't go backwards, only forward.

    Hi Dr Lisa. I prefer to go and have a Rems test they can also see the bone strength. Im following Belinda Becks Lift heavy trial. I have a personal trainer at a gym and now been going twice a week for ,9 months now. Ill have another Tems test in December. Just making my bones stronger and I take supplements too. But not calcium tablets.❤

    • @DrLisaMooreDPT
      @DrLisaMooreDPT  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would prefer REMS scan too, but it is not widely available in the US. I don't have access to it. DEXA is still the standard for most people. Thought I do hope that changes soon! You are following the premiere OP strength researcher! Keep doing it! Share your results when you are able.

    Hi Lisa, re protein/day, how many grams per kg of body weight do you aim for? And would you be comfortable sharing your daily dose of magnesium, Vitamin D etc?

    • @DrLisaMooreDPT
      @DrLisaMooreDPT  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Supplements are personal and should be based on your needs. Protein too, based on activity. I shoot for at least 1.2 grams of protein per kg of body weight per day, spread throughout the day.
