It was like watching a train wreck. I know I am not supposed to and I know I will be haunted if I see something, bloody but I just can't turn away my eyes.. Very descritive and well written book imo.
I went into this thinking it was more suspenseful, and I'm a complete newbie to horror, so I did have a stronger reaction to the body horror than other people probably will. My biggest complaint, as a person with a background in geology, is that Sylvia is also described as a geologist but her specialty is really botany. The most common reaction to plants amongst geologists is "man, I bet those plants are covering up some really cool rocks".
That’s a good point. It is a little on the slow side. And interesting distinction between geology and botany. I bet that took you out of the story some.
I thought that too but I went back and turns out she's introduced as a "graduate student studying native plants and biology" clay also says that she's more into the botany side of geology. So I guess the signs were there, we just missed them 😂
Looks like you are embracing your inner horror fan! Nothing spurs my imagination the way horror stories do and I love that. New to your channel, enjoying your reviews!
@@ryreadshiya! I’m not @metalbee9995 but here are some of my (unsolicited) recommendations! The Silent Companions - Laura Purcell The Shape of Darkness - Laura Purcell Horrid - Katrina Leno (more of a mystery/thriller than horror but SOOOOO dark and fun) The Spite House - Johnny Compton The Good House - Tananarive Due (Johnny Compton said in an interview that The Good House was an inspiration for The Spite House) The September House - Carissa Orlando (casual grisly horror you think is going to go in one direction, then casual grisly horror goes in a different direction, then makes a sharp turn into intense grisly horror in a super fun way) AND I’m recommending this book definitely as a “WTF did I just read?” and not because I liked it. TBH I’m still not sure what I think of this book and I read it last year. Tell Me I’m Worthless - Alison Rumfitt I can WHOLEHEARTEDLY NOT RECOMMEND these 2 books. IMO they were both full of disappointment. Episode 13 - Craig DiLouie The Ghost Eaters - Clay McLeod Chapman
I really wanted to like it, the first chapter was awesome but later on mm I couldn't finish it, when the ghost started to appear it became boring to me, I would have preferred better character development and more ambiguity about what's happening instead of just showing the ghosts killing people, something more like the blair witch would have been more spooky, a similar book but highly superior is "the ruins" by scott smith that one is still my favorite.
I love that you're discovering and enjoying horror! I can't wait to get my hands on this one!
Yes!!! I’m excited for you to read it I would love to hear what you think.

I completely agree with this!!! All the way!

I can see why you feel this way about it. Especially since it’s been some time since I’ve read it now.
