婉華講得好啱。我身邊一班朋友都係溫哥華公立中小學校讀書。而家個個都係專業人事，有家庭小朋友。相反有親友以前重點栽培子女，Montessori daycare, 再入名私校同名師教音樂等等。而家佢哋D子女做一般低層工作仲要未婚懷孕。

近年多咗好多虎爸虎媽嘅移民人 带咗好多k型k怪嘅風氣嚟加拿大 三年级學生 放學後要去補習七年級嘅數學 搅乜呢 好多時學生自己學緊嘅功課都唔掂 竟然去學七年级數學 真奇怪。

As always, I love the dynamics among you three! Anita, when you talk about your experience with rich students and private schools Derek was a good listener and listened to you. He did not say "嘥氣啦" and took the turn to talk. Everyone has their own personal experience in this world, no one is right or wrong, that's why I like your live show, mutual respect and still maintain openness to listen and learn from each other. When he talked about "connection" how do you know what his "connection" mean? Shouldn't we explore Derek's story first before concluding it's 嘥氣? Even if it is in the end, you will show you are a good listener, this is the high quality show and high quality audience you all mentioned you are proud of in the show. And I was very very intrigued when Derek mentioned psychotherapy, I would love to listen more to that. Other than that, still sending my love to all of you from Houston Texas USA. Keep it up!!

子博，我可以答你香港人在英國點解讀私校嘅原因。
因為香港人今次移民係走難式插班英國學校，好嘅學校已經滿晒。所以派到嘅學校一般都比較差。尤其今次大多數香港小朋友都係讀緊中學，距離考公開試嘅時間得返好短日子。如果讀公校，基本上學校係冇額外嘅資源去幫呢一班小朋友去適應，更何況去應付公開試呢。
相反，英國嘅私校比較注重學生嘅學業成績，所以入學嘅時候必須要通過考筆試及面試才收取，不是有錢就讀得。另外，私校會因應每個插班嘅學生程度，而有額外嘅補課，去追回落後咗嘅課程。因此讀私校不是你所講的家長貪慕虛榮㗎😅

如果個細路叻到入到Ivy League嘅undergrad, 梗係俾佢讀啦, 升價十倍都唔只。Ivy League平均每間入學率低過 3%左右, 所以呢D唔係凡夫俗子要擔心嘅問題。

非常同意婉華講法!!四年正常大學，如果子女好叻，等再 grad school個2年再申請入 Ivy 大學，無須浪費金錢，除非我哋個個好似蔡天鳳咁有咪$$， 買屋畀人住都可以full pay七千萬!咁就不須要諗直接比子女入去讀十年大學都仲得!!🙄

婉華在美國的大公司都會去有名的大學選人才。我的兩個堂弟妹都是在大學時比蘋果和西門子睇中未畢業已經請左他。好似加卅的USC 南加州大學。舊生會全是猛人之後。見工是校友有加分的。理論一套，但現實又是一套。這就是現今的世界。
名牌大學當然好，我意思係讀四年基本大學，唔需要讀長春藤，如果想再進修，例如讀碩士，或者讀法律之類，當然讀名牌大學就冇得頂。
環境與身教非常重要。 一隻活在籠中的鳥如何有創新? 一個從小跟著大賊成長嘅小朋友會有如何觀念?

What really in concern is the atmosphere and the running of the school, whether it's private or govt. My son has studied in 2 govt high schools, only students in the second one have higher expectations for themselves and that influenced him much.
Yet, too much pressure on children for scoring high marks always may hampered their interest in learning and retarded their learning abilities. Encouraging them and helping them to enhance their learning interest and potential, and to build up solid problem solving strategies for themselves. When they find that they are capable of tackling tasks themselves, their self-confidence grows, and interest and abilities in learning will explodes.
All my children have completed their PhD in different areas and achieved high, but I focused only on how to bring out their potential and how they may develop themselves, least on their school results, and they are not hardworking students.

@Way toGo Funny enough with comments from a layman. Causal English won't mind much about grammar etc. I'm UK citizen, achieved Distinction for my Master degree in Linguistics & English Language Teaching from a high rank University , and proud of mentoring my children through their PhD thesis and invited speaker presentations on frequent international conferences.
@Way toGo by the way, I sometimes feel shame that I'm not too good in Chinese. I do need time to catch it up.
@Way toGo Sorry that my casual English may have upset you. As you're still interested, I shouldn't be too mean not to give out further information : I had published 2 volumes on English grammar for high school students before I was admitted to the Master's degree. I think no one will say that a king is bragging when he introduces himself as a king. Fact is fact and it's difficult and meaningless to make things clear to a stranger who only means to hurt. It's even too silly and low to brag of trifle things.
@Way toGo The grammar books covered different areas for English language learning, including phrasing, exceptions, proper usage and proper ways of expressions etc,
So, no need to worry about my English. For decades I have no problem at all when communicating with native speakers, whether casually or academically in university.
Not all private schools are bad.
My daughter and Bill Gates went to the same high school. She was a very good student and now a respectful adult.

I totally agree with 李婉華. I went to a public high school and UC Berkeley, and graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees. Many of my public school friends did the same. We never considered private schools. I don't agree with the tiger parents and their desire to control their children's future.
Not all public schools are made the same.Good for you if you went to a good public high school. Things sure had changed in the last few years. Besides the usual drug issues, in recent years school officials with the leftist ideology had pushed to get rid of Honors math in high school or the advanced math in middle schools. These nonsense had push parents to consider private schools. It has nothing to do with whether or not those are Tiger parents.

We are US citizen. My son was born here and went to Harvard for one summer then attended Ivy League College in US. He / We put in a lot of work ( besides academic) in order to get accepted in Ivy League. Tuition is ~ $50- 60K USD a year but the campus, the net working there is surreal. After graduation, he got a job right away and now he is in T-14 Law school. You really have to start the kid young. I can share that by default Ivy League requires outstanding GPA, but they usually choose the students with leadership, language skill / debate skill/ sports / volunteer service and be well rounded.
@waytogo333 There are still many that actually have passion and do good things for America. My son frat brothers are practicing law and working residency in hospitals.
@waytogo333 There are the issues that many countries face, not just for US. We can only try out best to raise our kids with good heart and I still believe education helps to transform the society. Take it one day at a time and with baby step, I hope my boy will be able to pursue his goal and play a small role in guiding America to the right direction.
