My VW iD3 had it's first dealer service which on an EV is basically an inspection. But even they wanted to charge EXTRA to do the cabin filter.. Std VW Charge was £60. I went to europarts and bought the OEM filter for £19 and it took literally 30 seconds to install as it is located under the bonnet where of course being an EV there is no engine. No tools, no getting dirty it is right there in front of you when you lift the bonnet. So they are charging £41 labour to do a 30 second job on top of the standard service charge.
Not justifying their price But mechanic wages Service advisor wages Manager wages Workshop controller wages Electricity bill Water bill Gas bill Rent for workshop Business rates Business tax. If they didn't charge you labour, where would they get the money for all of this.
@@shahislam9450 Sorry but yes you are trying to justify their prices. I don't care how you wrap it up, £41 additional labour to swap the pollen filter which takes literally 30 seconds is nothing but a money making rip off.
Same thing happened to me when I had a Qashqai years ago and had it serviced in a main dealer. The front brakes developed a shimmy and so I had them replaced. But the shimmy came back and they replaced the discs again. Same thing happened again. So I did my research and found that it might be a stuck slide pin and so I had a look myself. True enough, I found a stuck slide pin. I pulled it out, greased it, replaced it and shimmy was gone for good. Only cost me three sets of new discs and pads from the main dealer. So I educated myself on how to maintain my car and have never had to visit a garage since…….and that’s 15 years and counting.

I don't think is the company you service the car the problem but the people that today have no conscience and cannot be bothered to do their job. I was almost done by Kwik fit few years ago when my "serviced" car still had the old oil filter and oil in it. They picked the wrong car and the wrong driver. Would it have been worth calling a local breakers to see about getting a temporary slide pin for the brakes. Would have been better re using that mullered one.
@stuart6973. Agree! Blueprint have never manufactured an OE filter! They don't even manufacture... Just source and box. They are OE specification. Not OEM.
The date printed on a filter just means the date it was made. It could have been left on a dealers shelf for sometime before being picked for use. Dealer sometimes by 100s of filters at a time and they don’t all get rotated by age so that the oldest is always picked first. So you can’t just assume it’s not been serviced because the date of the filter is old.
I have owned so many cars all before 1999 year of make. Stupidly, I never used a manual and a lot of services were not available on old mobile phones. I have not driven for about 4 years now but watching marv, kerby and others I have come to learn about cabin filters. I would go euro car parts and smaller parts places and asked for a service kit for the car at the time. I shamefully admit I have never changed a cabin air filter. Hopefully I can get back behind the wheel of a car and then change my first cabin filter. Please don’t give me hate for this error.
ive started mobile mechanics because of these things so i too can help people stop getting scammed by dodgy mechanics, hopefully ill try vlogging on my channel too!
I took a truck for a service for the company I worked for and I put a stone at back wheel. Picked it up the next day the stone was still there it hadn't moved 😂and wat they charge for this so called service was hundreds and they didn't even look at it apart from the mileage 😂
This is nothing new, every car I have bought from any car dealer has never had the pre service they say it has had, my latest being my Seat Leon I decided to do oil change after only 5k, I checked air filter and it looked like it had been in there for the past 40k or so 🙄
I can personally vouch the cabin filters on these are an arse to deal with. Did mine last month. Also had no filters and I have no AC so perhaps that's just how it be. Also, the oil fill setup makes getting any sort of decent reading off the dipstick impossible. Honestly, my vans the best one I've ever owned. But Renault had to go make some really basic stuff unnecessarily difficult. Just like their balljoints... grumble.

you ever encountered a rounded t30 screw/bolt on a job? how you go about removing it? should i jus saw a slot in the head and use a flathead screwdriver?
I agree you should always fit good parts but these days the original parts aren't much good. Look at the modern timing belts that don't last 50K or timing chains that stretch so badly.
Do you have a company name mate ? Just asking because maybe it’s wise to get your company name printed on a numberplate template ,and thus cover the number plate of customers just to cover your back. A lot of mechanics on TH-cam do that. Finally, I hope you pre-filled the oil filter with some oil because it doesn’t show in the video, as some viewers/ people may use your video as a tutorial and will not pre-fill the filter with oil before tightening it in next to the oil pan Happy hustling 😊
I enjoy your videos, but, I work for Nissan, have done for over 14 years. Those “premium” cabin filters you removed haven’t been around that long, the original factory pollen filter was a flimsy white one. Also, Nissan wouldn’t fit a 2013 filter in a 2017 car. T32 X-Trail didn’t come out till 2014 either.
@ when I go to work on Saturday, I’ll get a new one out and see what it has on it 😃 I wish Nissan did the easy white filters still 😂 those carbon “premium” ones are solid 😅
I purchased a ridex cabin filter for my T6 looked OK but actually it's garbage when I actually fitted i almost destroyed it when i fitted it very badly made the original vw filter was made so much better and evan after pulling it out it was reusable almost refitted it as was only 12 months old.Lesson learnt need to stop cheaping out and only fitting the best probably sticking to mann on my t6 now years of cheaping out habits hard to break .Investing found Euro parts own brand filters to be ok in the past, but nowadays, I wouldn't even think about using them anymore.

I'll be Johns replacement😁 who the hell had done the Brakes that is a shocking job i always use ceretec brake grease for the sliding pins and clean them up first and a little red rubber grease on the boots if the dealership did that brake job before you they should be ashamed of themselves
Dealers are lying. I have a Toyota Aygo, always dealer serviced... Until I changed the brakes with no braking material on the pads. I was pissed they let my wife drive with no brakes at all. The brake disk had a fat lip on it. Absolutely horrible if you service a car without looking over the safety of your customer and warn hem/her.
Ceramic is great if it’s cleaned every brake service but not so great if it stays untouched for a long time as it can seize. It is better to use red rubber or high temp grease…
rubbers inside sliding pins are a way to generate extra cash. used to have a fiesta that had those rubbers and they didn't fit when they were new, took them off, 2 years running no difference in braking,
Main dealers are muppets that plug the car in no fault found cars ok. Even though it’s rattling like a skeleton w#nking in a biscuit tin. They use the saying it’s “characteristics” nothing to worry about or we can’t fault it. They are charged out a ridiculous price per hour and I’m still yet to find one that looks after your car. Slap dash not my car not my problem attitude. All you’re paying for is that stamp in the service book. If I see a car advertised as full main dealer service history I think yeah that’s had the bare minimum done. It’s not a selling point.
@ yeah but you can bet your bottom dollar if a dealer has done the work it will have a nice digital record up to date but weather they have actually done the work is unknown. I feel they do the bare minimum even if the customer is paying. Having said that there will be back street garages who will screw people over unfortunately. To find a honest garage you can trust is a must. The car industry is rather bent.
U are 100% correct on that anything outside the scan tool not telling them to replace a part there buggered a real mechanic knows not all faults show up on a scan tool many mechanical faults don’t throw codes

It’s difficult nowadays to find a good and honest mechanic mate- a lot of people try to learn things and half of the time they do it wrong
I will buy aftermarket parts and aim to do so to keep costs down, that said I buy dealer oil, air and fuel filters for my car.. I do it all myself so I still save overall. I must admit the oe spec or oe quality stuff I have used has been fine. I think it’s more important to make sure regular engine services are carried out. If something is very cheap there’s probably a reason for that. Btw my car is way past warranty.
Good stuff!
how do you tackle stuck caliper bolts? Currenlty struggling with mine😅 feels like they're gonna snap under force
Snap it and replace- sometimes it’s the only way out :(
@@themarvelousvlog yeah unfortunately☹️. Appreciate the reply mate, keep up the good work👍
Induction heater on the bolts... 10 seconds and they won't be stuck anymore..
I have always used copper grease, never had any issues
good stuff mate. need to educate the masses :)
Thank you! 🫡
Great video and content. Would be great to see more regular videos like before
That's the plan! Sorry for going silent!
It’s always worth making sure that we all have various socket sizes and we know fitting/removal is much longer without the correct tools.
I’m sure non of us expect a weird 5.5mm lol
Weird mate. I’ve seen it in my toolbox before but I just couldn’t locate it 😂- as you can imagine, it’s a tini tiny socket
Used febi stuff almost exclusively for years on my audis, never a problem with quality
They haven’t failed me once, hence why I’ll keep using them 😁
Top man marv 👌 the xtrail cabin filter is much easier from the driver side matey 👍
Wait… there’s an access there…?!?!?! You’re joking 🥲
@themarvelousvlog yes bruv 👍
@themarvelousvlog I tried like you from passenger side and was like it's a bit tight . You tube told me go from drivers side and it's a piece of cake 🎂
what grease do you recomend on sliding pin, is ceramic brake grease any good or would you use red rubber grease ?
Both good for the application 😁
Brake silicone grease. You can also buy silicone slide pin sachets individually.
I've always struggled to know what's best to use. For everything I see saying use whatever, something else says that that whatever either attacks rubber, or can't cope with heat. The only things I've seen explicitly saying they're for slide pins are expensive tiny sachets.
Main dealer charged me for oil change it was still dark after, it is a petrol ,next year went to independent it was clear so that proved main dealer didn't change oil cost me 350 ,doing it myself from now on,u know its been done correctly with correct oil and filter
Hope you reported it mate!
@themarvelousvlog well I wasn't a hundred percent sure at the time, was a jaguar main dealer
@@garymiller7218 JLR dealer.... 💀💀 They would have changed the oil but replaced it with used oil because supply chain issues or something. Tis the JLR way!
Little trick I do before any service & oil change. Scratch my signature into the paint of the filter, including the mileage I prefer the oil to be changed at.
They can't stiff me for the cost of a filter they've just polished the dirt off.
Check oil quality before leaving the dealership. On arrival home and after the car has been sat for an hour, I check the oil level.
Ain't gonna get caught spending money on products I've not received.
Great vlog as always and I use blue print parts which I’m delighted with kind regards and take care Mark from Billericay 😃👍
Fantastic!
Missed you guys lately, glad your all good but I'm still waiting for that B58 build lol.
If you guys are struggling I'm only testing my 1254whp Drag car getting ready for next season atm so have some time (I'm building a new workshop, hence some lol), if you need anything let me know I'll DM ya.....
Stay safe and keep having lads...👍👌👍
* seen your other reply, I also build PC's 😉
I'd be more worried about letting then drive it with a bad ball joint than the slider pin issue
I alwas fit Mann filters from the days when i was an apprentice 😊
Can’t fault them mate
Blue print are fine I’ve used them on my eclass and they are exactly the same size
Would it have been worth calling a local breakers to see about getting a temporary slide pin for the brakes. Would have been better re using that mullered one.
No one nearby that’s close to us, all at least 1hr away :(
I m having problem with my sprinter van
24:18 even the seagulls were laughing
😂😂😂
Even better filters are out there if you can get them:
MAHLE
MAN
HENGST
MEYLE
I do like all of the manufacturers youve mentioned
Purflux is OEM for a lot of manufacturers...
@stuart6973.
Oil filter housing O rings should never split. As they should be changed every oil service.
Correct, however, I have seen it before in cheaper brands- unfortunately :(
Hi what gloves you recommend for the jibs
Euro Car Part, phs textured orange gloves- the absolute best!
Gator grips...
Hello mate what areas do you cover? Do you come south of the river Bromley area?
We cover Bromley mate. We’re over there on Monday if you want us to squeeze you in 👀
I don’t need anything at the moment but it’s good to know you cover over this way I will definitely be in touch
Any recommendations on quality drop link brands, I need to replace on our C4 Picasso and would like something that lasts more than 12 to 18 months…….
I’d say lemforder or Febi mate 👍
Mayle HD
@@themarvelousvlog cheers, I went for the Febi, now installed and no more rattles 😀
Make sure to tag me mate! I wanna watch your videos 😁
@ haha ill tag you. Not sure youll wanna associate yourself with some of the tom foolery ill get into🤣😭
Sometimes it’s the only way 🤷🏽♂️ 😂
I took a truck for a service for the company I worked for and I put a stone at back wheel. Picked it up the next day the stone was still there it hadn't moved 😂and wat they charge for this so called service was hundreds and they didn't even look at it apart from the mileage 😂
Wow! That’s mental 🤯
This is nothing new, every car I have bought from any car dealer has never had the pre service they say it has had, my latest being my Seat Leon I decided to do oil change after only 5k, I checked air filter and it looked like it had been in there for the past 40k or so 🙄
Nice To See A Vid From You Chap ...
peace
More to come!
@@themarvelousvlog Happy Days ...
peace
If you got £1 for every time you said OE in this vid 😂... good to see you back
Probably like £20 😂
🫡
OEM is manufacturer parts, OE/OEM quality/spec is 'as good as OEM' but not from the Manufacturer or their parts suppliers..
Just like their balljoints... grumble.
Does a full service get you a fuel filter too?
Major Service, yes. Full Service, no
@@barristevenson787 hi there I now replace my fuel filter every year for piece of mind, worth it as only costs £16 from my local parts supplier, regardless of mileage as I’m a fussy ol tart kind regards to you and take care
I use certex for brakes 😊
They work well they do!
@themarvelousvlog can not belive previous person bodged those sliders and said its fixed ill always drop sliders out clean and regrease pins gives people bad name as lose trust and ya names everything in that line of work
Now days a full service don't include spark plugs being changed or Diesels fuel filter thats extra 😢
It now counts as a ‘Major’ Service. They now have longer lifespans compared to before- mileage and date that is
I change polen filter evey year ı have jag s-type and xj ım using only mahle products air and polen filter and ı use genuine jag oil filter, polen or cabin filter is so important because ım livin aegian side turkey we have so much polen in air almost every time of year because of hot-mild climate ıts always full in 1 year also air filter same story its completly dirty after 1 year ım only makin 6-7k km per year....
you ever encountered a rounded t30 screw/bolt on a job? how you go about removing it? should i jus saw a slot in the head and use a flathead screwdriver?
You can do that OR you can get an extractor, or, you could even hammer a Hex on it, or triple square that is similar in size…
First just sayin from north of Newcastle 🔧🔨⚒️🛠️🍺🍺👍
Hello there!
Where u based in UK
Near London mate!
I think Febi are the parent company of Blueprint but yes amazing quality.
That’s right!
I agree you should always fit good parts but these days the original parts aren't much good. Look at the modern timing belts that don't last 50K or timing chains that stretch so badly.
I find some French cars more difficult to work on.
I prefer working on the vag range of cars like Vw Skoda seat Audi.
French Cars are very confusing to work on- they’re annoying 😂
Until you have to replace the upper control arms on an Audi... Pinch bolt ring a bell? Easy now I've made my own tool to extract them...
Do you have a company name mate ?
Just asking because maybe it’s wise to get your company name printed on a numberplate template ,and thus cover the number plate of customers just to cover your back.
A lot of mechanics on TH-cam do that.
Finally, I hope you pre-filled the oil filter with some oil because it doesn’t show in the video, as some viewers/ people may use your video as a tutorial and will not pre-fill the filter with oil before tightening it in next to the oil pan
Happy hustling 😊
I have been meaning to get a show plate tbf 😅
I enjoy your videos, but, I work for Nissan, have done for over 14 years. Those “premium” cabin filters you removed haven’t been around that long, the original factory pollen filter was a flimsy white one. Also, Nissan wouldn’t fit a 2013 filter in a 2017 car. T32 X-Trail didn’t come out till 2014 either.
Interesting that! How come it was stamped as 2013 on the filter? Love a dealership insight I do- like a little mechanic gossip 😂
@ when I go to work on Saturday, I’ll get a new one out and see what it has on it 😃 I wish Nissan did the easy white filters still 😂 those carbon “premium” ones are solid 😅
They are difficult to get in that tiny spot mate, I can’t lie 😂
I purchased a ridex cabin filter for my T6 looked OK but actually it's garbage when I actually fitted i almost destroyed it when i fitted it very badly made the original vw filter was made so much better and evan after pulling it out it was reusable almost refitted it as was only 12 months old.Lesson learnt need to stop cheaping out and only fitting the best probably sticking to mann on my t6 now years of cheaping out habits hard to break .Investing found Euro parts own brand filters to be ok in the past, but nowadays, I wouldn't even think about using them anymore.
For one car you use Blue Print and the other car Febi parts , why not only Febi or Blue print?? Like your vids !
Febi make the blue print filter I believe.
@tylermonks7667 OK
Febi, Blue Print and Swag are all under the Bilstein Group 👍

rubbish what happened to the wet belt issue in all the cars use your platform to get action VW dont make filters or ford as long as your suppliers stock quality parts then your good all the best for 2025 love your channel
Thank you mate! Happy new year 🥳
I'll be Johns replacement😁 who the hell had done the Brakes that is a shocking job i always use ceretec brake grease for the sliding pins and clean them up first and a little red rubber grease on the boots if the dealership did that brake job before you they should be ashamed of themselves
You want to be the girl in this relationship do you? 😂
Yeah I totally agree mate- it was an atrocious job!
@themarvelousvlog I don't care as long as I work for you 😄
you can not go on dates on filters
Dealers are lying. I have a Toyota Aygo, always dealer serviced... Until I changed the brakes with no braking material on the pads. I was pissed they let my wife drive with no brakes at all. The brake disk had a fat lip on it. Absolutely horrible if you service a car without looking over the safety of your customer and warn hem/her.
Ive always used ceramic grease on brake sliders, would you advise against?
Ceramic is great if it’s cleaned every brake service but not so great if it stays untouched for a long time as it can seize. It is better to use red rubber or high temp grease…
@@themarvelousvlog Thanks for that.
I miss jhon boy crawling under the cars
You’ll see him insure videos. This video was taken back in November so we’ve got quite a few to catch up on!
14:39 what should I use?
It didn’t move.
Eh?
@@themarvelousvlog You said lemme know if the pin moves in and out, or not.
rubbers inside sliding pins are a way to generate extra cash. used to have a fiesta that had those rubbers and they didn't fit when they were new, took them off, 2 years running no difference in braking,
I know guys that take that rubber off the inside of the sliding pins, and never had a problem...just saying like
I believe the rubber inside is for dampening any vibration under braking- correct me if I’m wrong though 😅
Service history is so easy to manipulate regarding if it’s digital or paper
@ yeah but you can bet your bottom dollar if a dealer has done the work it will have a nice digital record up to date but weather they have actually done the work is unknown. I feel they do the bare minimum even if the customer is paying. Having said that there will be back street garages who will screw people over unfortunately. To find a honest garage you can trust is a must. The car industry is rather bent.
U are 100% correct on that anything outside the scan tool not telling them to replace a part there buggered a real mechanic knows not all faults show up on a scan tool many mechanical faults don’t throw codes
@ I’ve had it with Vw recently car makes a noises suspected gearbox they admit to been able to hear it but tell me they have plugged it in no codes. They have literally told me it’s “characteristic” I said a failing bearing or mechanical issue won’t show up as a fault code. There muppets.
@Nomadic-Cyclist 100% correct it would be something if they could even understand a scan tool as well in some cases u can run the car watch the levels on the tool various electrical draws fuel uses etc and work out from that even if it doesn’t throw a code
its all about trust 100%, trust you pay for trust get rid of cowboys.
I was told blueprint are chinese so not good. I believe its old believes. Blueprint is quality mark in china
Blueprint is OE to many Asian cars over the far east. It’s Japanese not Chinese so you know the quality is there!
"wonder why nissan bankruptcy" hmmmm
That is something I’m NOT looking forward to…
I live in Australia and own a 28 year old Toyota Hilux and l have owned for five years and when l bought it no service records at all but after doing work on the Hilux l have discovered the Hilux had been serviced regularly and when it comes to spare parts in Australia l buy all my parts from a local spare parts shop not the Toyota Dealer they may not stock the parts for my 28 year old Hilux.l was watching another you tube channel from the USA and the presenter is a trained Toyota technician and he did a video on spare parts were in the USA they counterfeit Toyota parts no control or legislation as there is in Australia and l have got parts from the USA Japan Taiwan and Australia and l did get a part from China lesson learnt its an indicator and the quality of the part is poor and that is why l would never ever buy anything from China it is absolute rubbish and that includes vehicles getting back to this absolutely poor quality indicator the lense has small cracks in it it's just crap and there was a cheap Chinese part which a previous owner fitted himself the first part of the exhaust system it was faulty caused me to fail the yearly rego check and got it changed for a good quality Australian made part
