    Funny thing is that this may very well be lore-friendly. One of the surviving King Tigers was found home at Fort Knox before being relocated to Fort Benning, this particular one had it's left side cut open to show its interior, but maybe some survivors found it and decided it's a good idea to jury-rig the beast back in working order...

    I got a backstory for it; out of the 8 surviving Tiger IIs left-over from WWII. One was transported from a museum over to Kentucky to be converted back into a functional combat vehicle to help survivors. However, as the infection went on, the survivors got overwhelmed and were forced to abandon the vehicle somewhere. Until you found it - it leaps back into the fray to continue where they left off. That's the coolest thing about preserving history like this; it could have a new-found use later on.
    Epic stuff. I saw this mod awhile ago and I debated on getting it but I might now.

    This really does show how ridiculous it is about a non-afflicted mechanized military going up against zombies. Zombies need massive plot armor to win.
    Edit: Since a horde of virology experts have @ me, let's talk about the pieces of lore the game gives us. It's said before the events of the game, a dark cloud and a bad smell permeated Knox county. This points to some kind of accidental release, but regardless, it means there was advanced warning for some kind of airborne contaminate. The radio host in the game states that "they knew" meaning the government for sure knew the nature of what was happening giving even more time to prepare. And yes, militaries have trained for chemical and biological warfare for decades. So my point still stands that a trained military, especially one with advanced knowledge, would absolutely stomp unintelligent, rotting zombies.

    • @youmukonpaku916
      @youmukonpaku916 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In pz it was an airborne virus so it's likely a lot of military personnel in military camps and bases turned before anything could he done and overrun them from the inside rather than needing to breach a gate.

      I remember a debate where someone knowledgeable about this subject explained how a certain caliber machine gun round will utterly destroy your nervous system on a body shot. This was an arguement on why it would work even against a "walking dead" zombie. (only braindamage/headshots)
      He argued that the military would be highly effective against zombies.
      Other people suggest that a zombie outbreak would be nipped in the bud quickly. I can see why. Its highly infectious through bites, but anyone infected does not only stand out, there are generally zero moral consequences for immediatly killing the infected.

    • @Toxic_bnnuy
      @Toxic_bnnuy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Isn't in zomboid case infection is also airborne? We know of atleast 1 case of person that never directly contacted with infected being turned (one of the radio broadcasts) I dont think that machine gun can really help you if virus already settling inside you (and dont forget about logistics, with panicked people, army and others moving all around its hard to get supplies in time)

      It's not about killing the zombies. That's the easy part. The hard part is about preventing the spread of a disease. Tanks aren't vaccines, so they can't help you fend off the infection. Also, tanks have limited fuel and ammo, so you can only fight in them for so long. If the pandemic is on a global scale, you won't be able to kill them all.

    I gotta think that in a real zombie outbreak anyone who can get armor is going to be the ones to survive. As long as the crew doesn't get infected you got a rolling slab of metal that after the bullets are gone and shells are spend you can just run over the hordes of undead. Get four or five of those in a good size town and you'd clear out most of them in no time flat

    • @CountCalcium
      @CountCalcium ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Until the fuel runs out, something breaks down, someone makes a mistake and runs the tank into a ditch or a bog or some similar scenario. The crew would also need to rest and have food and water. They’d need to be trained too. If anything breaks down then you’re fucked as you can’t go outside to repair it as you have no spare parts, tons of zombies and of course the difficulty of repairing a tank

Given that you can drive about 200 miles, I would say that you can clear a lot of Z's, even more because they are attracted to rhe sound. No need to check every house, just keep driving gently, and stay on the roads. Also stick together in pairs and save some mg ammo to clear the other tank once they want to refuel

      @@CountCalcium That's not entirely true. So in all of these zombie games there's always a overrun military checkpoint or convoy that has plenty of spare parts from abandon vehicles that could be used as sources of spare parts. True they will need to be trained, but it's not something that's extremely complex, but this scenario we're assuming they already know how to operate the vehicles since they wouldn't be using it unless they already knew. This also applies to knowledge of repairs (otherwise one can assume they could make something like the Killdozer, basically taking something more available for civilian use like a tractor or a dozer, armor it up and use that).
      Point is that the stuff you're saying could happen are more tv/movie excuses why you never see people rolling around in these things. In reality I can see more groups that might have a few guys that were previously armor MOSs in the military that could train them in the use of a tank, apc or ifv.

      My head canon for this thing is that it was being transported to a private collector after being bought out from the museum housing it and they had it fully restored to working order, the billion dollar owner was having it transported to Texas along with the newly manufactured ammunition from the document's on the ammo type when a zombie outbreak happened and this vehicle got stuck in Kentucky along with it's ammo and even instructions on how to make the ammo as well as the driver's manual.

    Anyone who thinks a tank could be stopped by a big enough horde of zombies, consider this:
    Even old tanks have a towing capacity of several tens of tons.
    The horde would somehow have to be able to exert more than the tank's towing capacity against it as lateral force in order to prevent it from moving forward. That alone is impossible, but even if it weren't, the zombies closest to the tank would just be crushed into a pulp by the ones behind. You could just sit there and wait for enough of the horde to turn itself to mush so that the force it was exerting dropped below your towing capacity, then just casually drive over the remainder.

    So as someone with a PhD in Microbiology subspecializing in transmissible viruses, who works with the CDC, I figured I would drop my two cents on why the zombie apocalypse would absolutely happen. My colleague and I, who was in military logistics and strategy before going to college for his degree, have spent many lunch breaks theory-crafting the zombie apocalypse and other EOTW scenarios. After the recent viral pandemic, it's pretty obvious that society would have no chance. Here's how it would go down:
    Step 1: The viral origin (be it animal, plant or other) is brought in as food or fertilizer to a major metropolitan or urban area.
    Step 2: Because of the fast-paced nature of food prep in most countries nowadays, things are not always done correctly and if you've ever watched the news segments on restaurant inspections, you'll agree with me wholeheartedly. So the food is either prepped just under the required temperature to sterilize the food, or it is cross-contaminated with either produce or another food product that doesn't require as thorough a cleaning as meats, poultry or fish.
    Step 3: The exposure event. Some unlucky customer consumes the contaminated product without even realizing it, thus giving us our patient zero.
    *side note: Most viruses take multiple days, if not weeks or months to gestate in the body before symptoms appear, making patient zero an unknowing vector for a prolonged period.
    Step 3: Because of their proximity to other people in the urban or metropolitan area, and assuming that the virus isn't airborne to begin with (likely being spread through bodily fluids [sweat, urine, etc.], patient zero ends up exposing thousands, if not tens of thousands of people to the virus before symptoms even occur.
    Step 4: Now we get nerdy. A "zombie" virus likely wouldn't be a World War Z infection, taking only seconds to turn someone. It would likely be a long process even after symptoms first appeared. Initial symptoms may be as benign as a headache, fever, a persistent cough and possibly nasal congestion as the body tries its best to fight off the virus inside the body. This means that even after symptoms first appear, patient zero may wait weeks or even months to get medical help for the slowly worsening symptoms.
    Step 5: The nerds screw up. Plain and simple, the doctors at the local hospital are not prepared for what this person is carrying. Not knowing they have patient zero for the apocalypse in their laps, they don't use proper PPE because they assume it's just a flu or some other common ailment. They give the man some fluids, maybe a prescription for some broad-spectrum antibiotics which won't help at this stage, and send them home.
    Step 6: The nerds screw screw up x2. Because they assume the patient only had the flu or some other benign ailment, they do not take the proper steps to sterilize the waiting room, triage room or hospital ward where he was kept. This leaves the virus to spread amongst the entire hospital as nurses and doctors unknowingly give it a free ride around the entire facility.
    Step 7: Things get interesting. By this point, the tens of thousands of new vectors have infected millions while the virus lay dormant in their body, leaving them asymptomatic. They go about their days, infecting millions more before their symptoms also reach the point where they feel medical intervention is necessary.
    Step 8: Now we get a bit morbid. Obviously, infants, toddlers and the elderly are the first to drop, likely from the symptoms of the virus hitting them harder than a person with a healthy immune system. Problem is, they don't stay dead. Assuming this virus works like most other zombie viruses we see out there, after the cessation of life the virus has enough biomass in the body to provide just enough electrical output to the brain to restore our more animalistic functions (eat, sleep, survive). Depending on the variables including how long before the body is reanimated, whether they were embalmed already and whether they were even discovered, you now have possibly millions of meat suits waking up after expiring.
    Step 9: The nerds with guns screw up. While the previous step is occurring in relatively small instances, the CDC is doing their own research into the virus to try and figure out what it is, after learning of the deaths, however they most likely haven't begun studying the reanimation yet.
    Step 10: It's already everywhere. As we've seen throughout history, the more mobile a society is, the easier it is for a virus to spread. The world we live in is like a bus pass for the virus, taking it around the world hundreds of thousands of times before we are even aware it exists. By this point, both the CDC and government/military are aware of it but are trying to keep it contained, not knowing that quarantine at this point is likely impossible.
    Step 11: Can't trust anyone. The reanimated meat suits will spread the virus through your campy horror tropes: bites, scratches, etc. However, my colleague and I agree that by the time world governments are taking the issue as seriously as they need to, they would fail to realize that almost everyone on the planet is infected by this point, and here's why:
    Step 11: Viral mutation. Yeah, we're getting nerdy again. Viruses are single-celled organisms whose sole purpose is to survive, reproduce and spread. Because of this, viruses have a tendency to mutate due to the millions of replications thay take place every minute once they are actively infecting a person. All it takes is one mutation for the virus to become airborne, and this mutation is more likely due to the confined nature of most people in this day and age.
    Step 12: The End. Much like in the Walking Dead, it becomes an "everyone is already infected" situation. Even someone who is a carrier, i.e. someone who is totally asymptomatic while carrying the virus, will reanimate upon cessation of life. No one knows this, and by the time they do, the chains of command, major governments and local municipalities will likely have succumbed to the first wave of the infection, leaving only those "walking dead" to try and eke out a life for themselves in the ruins of society.
    TL;DR: All it takes is for these very common criteria to be met for a "zombie virus" to bring the world to its knees over the course of a couple of years. By the time anyone took it seriously, the majority of the world would already be infected, and once they start succumbing to the virus, panic and social collapse would leave very few people behind who could actually do anything about it.
    So yeah, my colleague and I agree that if a virus like that ever made it to a major city, we'd pretty much be SOL as a species.
