I recently bought GZ in the steam sale, and overall it's very good. I bought the base game only at first, to try it out, and the companion died in almost every fight. After I bought the rest of the dlcs, the companion gained more survivability, due to better armor options, however the same drawbacks remain, it dies far too quickly, and does very little damage. One thing I did notice however, with the scavenger ability fitted, the companion spends more time looting than fighting, often running off to loot a recent kill even while it's being attacked. The spotter ability works consistently, highlighting it's current target, which can be a big help in the dark. I used to play Warframe, almost every day for 2 whole years, supporting the devs by buying as many cosmetic items as I could afford, as it's free to play and not "pay to win", but eventually I became "burnt out" with the game, often geting angry at what I perceived to be the wrong decisions of the devs, and so I quit playing over a year ago, and I don't regret it. I hope to be able to return to it one day, as it is a great game, but there are plenty of other great games out there. The point I'm trying to make, is that perhaps you have burnt out too, and a break from the game is exactly what you need. Even if you never return, I'll always be grateful for your GZ vids, as I've binge watched them over the past week, and they have helped me out enormously. Take care Kilroy. :)
I'm pretty glad they even have us the companions for free usually all the good stuff isn't free 👍 but I like the idea of the customization dlc cuz it like you don't need it unless you want it
on a scale of 0 to 10 i give it a 5 in how funny they are the companions. we need to be able to give them commands such as select an opponent + that I find that it gets to set itself so that it is no help above the head and the weapons are unhelpful except for the grenade launcher. we also need to be able to prioritize which type of ammunition you want it to use
I kinda sorta agree with you on this. I recently got into GZ after a long pause and found the new companion mechanic. I was like "Oh cool thats new". I played with vanilla and was kinda impressed how it helped out in midgame combat.... buuut then I learned about the DLC as I could not find the other armors that were clearly there in the menu. I have to say I am a bit torn on this. Yeah the studio is indie so they can't really polish things and they've been forced into some stupid development directions but that does not give them free pass on the toxic DLC strategies. Paintjobs and cosmetics are cool but locking armors/damage/functionality is no bueno. Come on there has to be a better way for community to fund the development of the game. Just open a donation box so that people who love the game can support it and don't Guilt/annoy people into giving you money. Organise some events. interact with the community. expand on the horror of the game. give people reason to roleplay. there is so much that can be done to drive interest/sales of the game and absolutely no reason to establish pay for power.
Yeah.... dunno what’s going on with the PS4 version, but I never got multiple choices for the free update, and I can’t find the cosmetic kit on the ps store. 🤷🏻♂️
You cannot even use the companion if you are with more than one friends. As soon as you pull him out and fire your weapon everybody starts getting blue screen
I've played Gen Z for many years now, I buy every dlc to support the game, several of them have had basically useless items included and sometimes some really good things. I take it all with " a grain of salt" , as the old saying goes, and just continue to enjoy playing the game.
As someone who used to play Gen 0 fairly religiously for a good few months until I got fed up with it due to the lack of story updates... I don't mind paying for DLC. I paid for ALL the story expansions without hesitation. What bugs me still, and why I can't see myself returning to the game any time soon, is the devs seem happy to roll out fluff DLC that adds absolutely nothing to the intrigue of the story. Like, guys, you've got this incredibly moody, mysterious game. The early-to-mid game was one of the most atmospheric, cautious, stressful single-player first-person-shooters I've EVER played... And you have areas of the map that we still haven't explored... And yet all you do is drop weapons packs and meaningless fluff on us so we can keep playing the same game over-and-over-and-over... I don't want a dog companion. I want to know what the heck the story is about! I want a goal! I want an ending to work towards that makes sense! Throw us a frickin' bone, devs. Please. This isn't Fortnite. Stop treating it like it is.
Awesome video calling them out dude, makes me happy I found a CC speaking against these Freemium practices from Avalanche. The update is nice and all, this game is awesome, but sadly the Devs are starting to adopt the practice that free to play games do, the better stuff locked behind paywall, pay to win style, the thing is, GZ is not a F2P game, is worth some money, they are beating their own game, if the community keeps allowing it, the prices will spike up more, while having the same amount of content, DLCs used to be less than 4 USD now they stepped up to 6. USD, not a lot but shows their intentions to keep increasing prices is there slow but surely
I have just started playing the game, but the companion not being freely nameable is dumb bc it isnt even a big multiplayer thing and you would probaly play with friends anyway
I've personally enjoyed the companion, i feel there should be more controls over it. but its still pretty fun, a bit weak even with the DLC, as i own it.
I think people overestimated it's power. I was seeing people in videos just letting the companion do all the work, when they're actually there just to assist the player. Then the same players would get mad that the doggo died! Smh.... 🤭
I don't own this game but I've been looking at it. I know you said Kilroy that these DLC prices aren't expensive but actually they are for what you're getting. I noticed this DLC received positive reviews on Steam which I find hilarious because it shows how we, as gamers, are so utterly hypocritical. If a AAA company releases flavor content for six bucks then their Steam rating is overwhelmingly negative and the comments always talk about how it's way too expensive for what it is. But if an indie company does the same thing their rating remains positive and suddenly it's not a matter of overcharging but of "supporting the developers." The way I see it, price gouging is price gouging regardless of the size of the company which is doing it.
100% agree! look the game is fun but the devs just don't seem to care about anything but these shitty $10 dlc's that don't give us much bang for our buck, but sadly theres only a few of us that actually realise this!
The other day I was just looting a regular house with my companion outside, he really wanted to come inside tho, somehow he glitched thru the wall and shot the chairs bouncing all across the house and scared the sht out of me 😂
I find I'm repairing the companion more times than it helps in battles...I have been playing this game since launch and still never had the p90 experimental sniper rifle drop...
Not salty but will say they have fixed alot 😂 it's still a mess but I'm part of the issue I've bought all the dlc and put hours in everytime. This helps me know what I'm getting even if your a little negative
I just wish they'd fix the bugs. I got the game on PS plus and I really liked it, when it's working. I've had reaper corpses disappearing (so no loot), map and mission bugs, connectivity issues, save game issues, etc. Hell, I spent a good 10 minutes jumping on top of boxes over the tower at the airport to grab the blueprint and the weapons, because the floor has no collision there (so you drop into the building, needing to fast travel out). This game is a mess and frankly, I just can't support it, at least not at this state.
Imagine devs instead of fixing game and adding more content for ppl to get back in the game just adds bot, i'm disappointed that devs just making DLCs and no almost zero interesting content

i disagree when other games are doing the complete opposite... and again it's not the money! it's the fact they release a half assed update with known issues and then say bye were going on holiday... if they cared about the game and had some self respect they wouldn't push out shit that doesn't work

What the dog doin', tho'? To be fair, if you listen carefully the FNIX soundbox sounds are slightly different, it has some added sounds and it's the less annoying one; the other ones got old for me pretty fast. The basic companion armour is only good for adventure difficulty and expensive to make, lots of steel and wood. For endgame, even on skirmish difficulty, you better grind the max explosive armour, the cheapest to craft, with some aluminium and plastic, or it'll get destroyed quickly, and currently you don't have a way to put armour on in the middle of a battle, just heal the companion with repair kits. How do I know this? I tested everything and unlocked all the armours to the max level, it was a 12 hour grind, killing a lot of rivals in each region. The modules seem meh to me because the AI is dumb. Scavenger missed weapon drops from Rivals, companion's inventory space is "only" 32 kg, etc. The medic one is nice but only if you are close to the companion and you are low on health, otherwise it doesn't heal you. I use the marking one and it's hit or miss, the companion generally doesn't spot the one I'm attacking currently, unless there is fewer machines and it's a big one. At least the rockets are fast, like the ones runners had in the GZ pre alphas, and it destroys groups of smaller enemies and freaking ticks! I had fun using the dog on base assaults, it even helped me destroying walls. Cheers.

I bought the DLC because I appreciate the devs and just like me, they need to make a paycheck. Do you? Everyone can relate to that. Those complaining about the price...$7 is overwhelming you? SEVEN. Two more dollars than five dollars. How can anyone moan about that when literally everything in today's economy is truly overpriced? Even pre-2020 seven dollars isn't even a decent fast food meal. Geesh. A lot of these people are a lot like some of my customers. You could hand them the product they want, PAY THEM $20, and they'd still say it was too expensive. This is by far one of the cheapest games I've ever played in my life. Take a time machine all the way back to 2015 and play World of Tanks. It was WAY more expensive back then than GZ has ever been.
What you are saying makes zero sense. As you said, the companion is free, and what you get with the free version is already in the game (so yes, it cost the devs very little to implement other than the companion itself). The paid version adds new content that did cost the developers money/time/effort to develop, so yeah, they charged for that. Why in the world should the new content also be free? Why would they bother developing it at all then? You're not entitled to their work for nothing. They were nice enough to make the basic companion free as a "taster" or demo, but they could have just put everything behind a paywall instead. Fortunately, they didn't do that. People that want the extras can pay, and those that don't will not loose anything. We all want free stuff, but that is not how businesses operate.

This is by far one of the cheapest games I've ever played in my life. Take a time machine all the way back to 2015 and play World of Tanks. It was WAY more expensive back then than GZ has ever been.

What you are saying makes zero sense. As you said, the companion is free, and what you get with the free version is already in the game (so yes, it cost the devs very little to implement other than the companion itself). The paid version adds new content that did cost the developers money/time/effort to develop, so yeah, they charged for that. Why in the world should the new content also be free? Why would they bother developing it at all then? You're not entitled to their work for nothing. They were nice enough to make the basic companion free as a "taster" or demo, but they could have just put everything behind a paywall instead. Fortunately, they didn't do that. People that want the extras can pay, and those that don't will not loose anything. We all want free stuff, but that is not how businesses operate.

@@KilroyPlaysNot really. You seemed to like the fact that the companion is free, but not that the “good” stuff was locked behind the DLC rather than being free as well. If not, then you really weren’t clear.
im wasting my time here but everything you got in the free part of the update was a copy and paste of everything already in the game... skins, sounds ect so why should you have to pay for the new stuff it makes no sense all they care about now is money hence why they released the new update with a heap of new bugs and said bye going on holiday... if you wanna support that go ahead I'm not going to support a game that pulls that kinda shit 💪 have a good day bud!
