Jim Kerr I hear ya! Couldn’t agree more. Don’t forget about the Double Ferris Wheel. That is the best Date Night ride of all. I proposed to my wife on that ride. Thankfully she said Yes.
Back in the 1980's, the carnival company who did our county fair each year had a Skydiver and the even rarer Astro Wheel, they would alternate each year, bringing the diver one year, and Astro wheel the next. They also had a Zipper and a Chance Toboggan. Now we have to go to the state fair to see some of these machines. Those were the good old days!
What a great ride! This one looks well taken care of as well. Haven't seen one on a midway or have been able to ride one since about 15 -20 years ago. It's unfortunate how most traveling midways now have cut down on the amount of rides they used to have and variety. You'll see duplicates now of some rides and nothing is really original or unique anymore.
Really good video of the Sky Diver! Every Sky Diver i see and i don't care if they're the same one i've seen a gazillion times or not, they are ALL Awesome!!! Bring this Classic Back!! The heck with these hi-tech rides now days, bring back the Sky Diver, Rock-o-Plane, Loop-o-Plane, Ring of Fire. Those types of rides gave air time good. Restraints on rides now days keep us from experiencing that air time, but you need them on rides like a KMG Fire Ball...intense G-Force!
It reminds me of our original Bucanneer Day's carnival with original rides like sky diver, monster only ours was black instead of white with colorful cars, zipper & tilt-a-whirl only our rides back in the 1960's, 1970's & 1980s were mostly of flourescent light tubes. & not so much of incandescent light bulbs as in these rides.
I'm not sure, but that one might be one of the even rarer "Super Skydivers"... These were a limited production larger-capacity Skydiver that Chance built strictly for more permanent applications, such as those at amusement parks... Chance also had built a few 16 car "Super Zippers" designed for the same purpose... Although I only saw it in an old photograph, Astroland at Coney Island once had a Super Zipper back in the late 60s/early 70s... A standard 12 car carnival version replaced it...

Wow! The Sky Diver made safe for the new century. The one that came to my town once a year was downright sinister, thanks to the burned out bulbs in its sign, the squealing brakes, and the wasted carny ride guys, who slammed the lid on your cage and just assumed you would bother to fasten the safety belts.

The Skydiver and The Zipper are my all-time favorite carnival rides. I even enjoy simply watching them in action.

In the 70s this ride was fairly common. Not so much now, unfortunately.

they used to set this ride up at night with the lights on where i grew up. you should have seen the crowds just to watch the set up.

Must be broken running backwards . In all my years I don't think I've ever seen a Skydiver filled to compacity .
