@@wilfbiffherb i think they seem overpowered for a while - but once an entire table is experienced it gets a lot harder. Also they are easier on digital than in real life for sure

@@wilfbiffherb Always burn unrest (use your bird cards first). Kill bases when they are in reach. Constantly talk about the need to keep the WA in check.
At the ending take, I can't be the only one who started thinking:
"I'll transform the Vagabond into an insect, and put that insect into a box. Then I'll put that box into another box, and deliver that box to me. When it arrives, I'll smash it with a hammer."

Love this! Completely agree with these. When I was teaching the game and playing as the vagabond, I was unstoppable, but once the table actually learned how the game works, he stopped looking so overpowered lol

They did not do tip 5.5 and my Vagabond Thief won over the weekend. They tried to trash me, but it was too late and my questing power could not be stopped.
The VB is the one faction you don’t get points for attacking. Yet it’s essential nonetheless! Sounds like a fun game! :)
Great tips! This is all very important stuff to keep in mind, and I feel like with 100+ games under my belt I’m only just beginning to scratch the surface of what’s possible in this game… the mark of a truly great design!

Great tips, especially the final one. It's an easy game to ruin. The tip I'd stress next is the leader, though, just to expand on it a little.
Some friends of mine don't realize that propelling yourself way into the lead is a one way ticket out of first place since everyone's given an easy target. Often can lead to "why is everyone targeting me" talk, but the answer's obvious when you've made yourself public enemy #1.
We're not an inexperienced table so they're not taken out of the game, but more often than not you're harming your own chances of winning the game by revealing your plan early. It frequently leads to having a much harder time than if you ran with the pack. On the flip side, slow point gain factions need to make it clear that they literally cannot speed ahead and therefore may not be the immediate threat. That's when you crack open the deals.

The last tip is so true! Thanks for the great video. We are teaching Root to two new players this weekend. Which two factions are the easiest to introduce? So many say the Cats but I actually think they are one of the most complex with the different buildings and supply chain of wood. Also starting with such a large board presence can be overwhelming for new players. I think maybe Eryie and Lord of Hundreds? What are your thoughts?
My pick for best first faction is Corvid Conspiracy - only because they don’t have to worry about rule. And a simple ruleset. However I would also recommend Marquise because they truly do teach every concept of the game although they are tough to play. I like to tell players - you will learn the game best but also probably not win. And that’s okay. And for corvids I say - it’s more chill and hands off but very good to play. And a lot of players will not really focus on them.
@@LordoftheBoard I only have a few in-person games under my belt but the newer player playing the Marquise has won most of them lol
@@ZandoFox hey every group is different! I’m surprised by them winning though. The table should look at all the ways you can exploit them.. cause there are many 😆

The reason I say too is so that you can have a chance to win. And so that you possibly prevent them winning. Without getting any points.

Yeah , wooden alliance and the table talk...😅 As soon as you pick wooden allince you become the only reason for the table to unite and clear you from the map on turn 1 .

Very sound focus on diplomacy and unbalanced stuff! Diplomacy IS how the game is supposed to be balanced, if X is very strong you must stop X. If Y don't care about Z ever (or always attacks Z no matter what) it breaks the game. So if zombie Z is on your back the right response often is NOT to attack Z back harder. Make it costly for Z but do point out "we are just helping X now fighting each other" and try to ratter therathen Z than hitting a lot.
