Ben G Thomas Don't get me wrong, I loved the video and I love snow leopards. And I know they are more related to tigers than to leopards, jaguars and lions. Maybe what you meant by 'roar' is that deep 'huur huur huur' call lions sometime do, which I've also heared jaguars and leopards sometimes do as well, although I can't say the same about tigers.

Dublin zoo had one, part of the international breeding programme. She had two cubs, and was quite relaxed around humans. My favourite of the zoo's big cats. Absolutely beautiful kitty with huge eyes like Audrey Hepburn.
Some of the species that live in isolation, like the snow leopard, quite often live on the brink of extinction. Theirs is a tough environment and any change in that environment, like the climate, could spell the end for them. Right now, it's human encroachment. Their habits normally keep their numbers down and their need for a specific environment reduces them to a specialised range. It will take a concerted effort to make sure that they don't go extinct.

I adore snow leopards maybe because they are mysterious but mostly because they are impossibly adorable, their cubs are too much, so I joined the Snow Leopard Trust a long time ago. They also work with the local population to reduce poaching by teaching them other trades to supplement income. You can find them online. May these beauties live on forever!

Maybe snow leopards can’t roar as an evolutionary trait: in Arctic environments, sound can be picked up easily over the silence of the snow. Cutting out the ability to make loud noises whether while moving or vocalizing would be very useful for stalking prey. Snowy owls have downy feathers on their wings to muffle the air when they fly, for example.
Good thought. Coming from the same region that is home to these beautiful kitties that makes me think it could also b helpful to minimizing echos. Mountain valleyes are notorilus for echoeing any sound. Even just falling water can be heard from miles away due to echoes.
