Roger Taylor, their drummer, was their secret weapon. He could sing! In any other group, he could have been the lead singer. He was that good, in addition to being one of the top rock drummers.
Yeah, Queen really benefitted from the fact that, actually, ALL of them could sing. They were all decently good vocalists. Roger Taylor was an exceptional vocalist. And then, there was Freddie. In most bands, the lead vocalist is just the only one who CAN sing, or, even, the only one who can PASSIBLY sing, even if they're not actually that good. In Queen, it was that Freddie Mercury was the best singer out of a group of already impressive singers, showing just what a cut above the whole band really was.
I never understood why they are using Adam Lambert when Roger is there?!? Carry on the legacy get another drummer and get Roger to sing! If he wants to of course.
@@MsGeoffh He doesn't - he is happy that Adam makes it possible for him and Brian to go on touring and playing as they used to - but they have another bass player - an extra drummer and a keyboard player. Btw - Rogers son Rufus is a very good drummer - but plays in another band. Both Brian and Roger. have solo careers where they sing - they have recently released each an album. Roger even plays ALL the instruments him self. Brians album is "Another World' - Rogers is 'Outsider'.
It irks me. It really does. Deacon is an amazing bassist, but people usually only mention Freddie, Brian and Roger. Glad to see I'm not the only Deacy fan...

Guys - no choir, no backing singers! Just Freddie, Roger and Brian - all their own vocals and harmonies. Just another facet to the greatest band that no others can touch! ☺
She meant the chorus of the song when the others come in - given that she sang this with a choir backing, it was just a slip. They were aware that it was the band doing supporting vocals and pointed that out.
At the point where Freddie turns from the piano and walks around on stage, it is because Brian May had a problem with his guitar. Freddie "bought" him some time with his interaction with the crowd. You will then see Brian walk back on the stage. They performed so well with each other that they noticed when something wasn't quite right - and backed each other up. Rarely does anyone notice that in the video because they were so flawless in their performances. Just love their music

I was fortunate to see Queen in concert, back in August of 1981 at the Baltimore Civic Center. Freddie owned the crowd the moment he stepped on the stage. Definitely one of 'those' concerts that I will never forget.
A band filled with four singing, songwriting geniuses. Of all the band's you'd see live that you'd figure could never pull off sounding like their albums, it'd be Pink Floyd and Queen. And yet, as this (and Floyd's stuff) demonstrates, genius can do what few others can.
What can you say? The voice projection is right off the charts. Piano comes second nature to him. The tightness of this band is unreal. The drummer and the bass is right on point. And the stage show is pure Freddy. Always entertaining. Brings the audience right along with him. I’ve seen him one time and what they say is absolutely true. The voice, the band, Brian May does something that you don’t see that much. He plays classic rock even when the song is something entirely different. And it works when Freddie is going full blown broadway.
there’s a reason why Freddie is holding up before he brings the back vocals and guitars in Brian May the leas guitarist broke a guitar string and Roger the drummer and Freddie have to fill in until he fixes it so freddie sings until Brian is ready to come in and sing and play.
