Looks good. It’ll last at least 2 years, I mean the tart. It’s easy and cheap to replace. I like the floor for predators proof but I would add a 6 inch border and use the deep litter method. Cleaning chicken poop off the plywood floor will be a pain in the ass.
Yea thats about what I expected for the tarp, but very easy to replace and inexpensive. I've cleaned the pen several times and it's not bad, but I have heard so many good things about the deep litter method I might have to give it a try! Thanks
@@the06r1 I use the deep litter method myself. Its about 4 inches so far. It’s been a year already and Believe it or not but it’s still not time to clean it out yet.
It looks nice. However, coons and opossums can reach through the chicken wire and square wire you used on the front. Half inch hardware cloth at the bottom two foot high will prevent any varments from reaching through.
Yes, That would definitely add another layer of protection, our chickens free range during the day and and night roost in the back under tarp and on the roosting boards off the ground and away from the edge, so we haven't had any problems so far.
I had a coon reach through chicken wire and pull the wing off of one of my hens when I first got chickens … ever since then I have used hardware cloth to build chicken pens… the hen survived and I nursed her back to health but she was always real scared after that… can’t say I blame her..
You could definitely add that and I thought about it when I was tempted to try some kind of litter under the roost locations. Then I decided to leave it like this so I could wash the manure out through the wire. So far so good.
I live in Florida, the winters are very mild. My biggest concern is ventilation from warm summers. But if you wanted to make a warmer version, I would go with a full length tarp on top and make the front door and surrounding area completely from plywood instead of wire. That way the coop would be fully sealed in at least.
The door in this video was off ebay. It lasted a short while but became unreliable. I replaced it with a mana pro door from tractor supply. It uses a string to pull the door open. Seems well built and it's an actual metal door, cost is much higher but it's worth it. Around 150$ I believe.

I put hardware cloth all over mine and I’m in Texas so the back is half hardware cloth and half plywood

Good job, it looks great!
Thank you!
Looks great ,the only thing I would add is @ 2x4x16 along the inside to keep manure in and off the wire will look better and last longer

Blocks face up and not the way you have them. Nice build
Wonder if 1" wire floors would let the poop fall thru the floor? Its warm in Florida .
I think most debris would fall through a 1in mesh, but I'm not sure how you would support the floor so you could walk through the coop at that point.
How are your winters with this where you are. I’m in New England and trying to think of how to make it winterized for the ladies.

Covered on top and ventilated in the front keeps them dry in the back.Prevailing winds determines which end you put your door.
Link to chicken door ?
