Luv black sands, holding on to it in my sluice helps capture more fine gold. Like they say ! Once you go black, you’ll never go back. Grand sharing Gary 😅
I just watched a guy in colorado use a magnet jn the river to collect black sand. In an hr he had about 7 lbs, of black sand and it was a powerful magnet the sand was thick on it. I'll tell him to take it home and use a weak magnate to separate the gold. Good info.
Thanks Gary for your videos. After a day of dredging I hand pan my cons to 20 mesh and then classify and run the rest through my blue bowl. I hadn't thought about doing it dry though, thanks for the tips! I save my bigger rocks and run the falcon over them just to make sure nothing is getting away. I am curios to watch the future video with the tumbler and mercury as I haven't messed with mercury at all.
I hade a Falcon years ago, I really enjoyed using it. I have been trying to work on the mercury video, but between working on the house and work, I have been unable to work on it much. I have Sunday earmarked to do some filming. Thanks for the support.
Hi Gary, thanks so much for your invaluable information for greenhorns like me.I am just getting into metal detecting and prospecting and your video's are very well made so that we can fully understand and safety have fun prospecting for gold. Thanks again
Thanks Gary Another very well put together video. I have learned so much from you in just the last couple of months, I find it amazing how little I know about mining and I've been dabbling in placer mining off and on for nearly 40 years. Hoping one day I can pass you some helpful info.GL&HH
I've been prospecting for decades off and on. That said, I watch as many vids on subject as possible in order to gleam every little extra tidbit useful. I find myself watching yours over and over on the nights I can't sleep. I won't knock others, but your knowledge, your direct-to-the-points style is most excellent. I would, however like to see you use mercury to recover gold on more than one vid. And with different gold amounts and different sizes. My need for this is because the repetition of same subject matter helps my mind embed the info. Mercury amalgam processing is not how
You are the man and are my new favorite prospector!! I use to watch Jeff Williams but now if you don't pay him he wants nothing to do with you. I asked him to say Hi to me and my 7 year old son on a video but because we are not "paid patrons" he won't say hi to us in his video. You are the real deal!! I like the fact that you don't always find gold and when you do you don't rub it in. I'm from upstate N.Y. where they have a stupid law that says any gold found is the property of the state of N.Y. So if ya find gold ya gotta through it back which I don't have a problem with because there isn't any gold in N.Y. I have been all over this state and have hand panned 4 Tons of material to find 1 penny! I'm moving out of this state because we are the highest Taxed state in our union, They took a big fat dump on our 2nd Amendment rights and now I find out that I can't even take my son out to pan for gold. Our Governor is horrible and dose Nothing to improve this state. every time we turn around there is some new law that prevents anyone from doing things they love, like panning. Sry for the rant... I just wanted you to know that you are awesome and thank you so much! I wish I could just buy dirt that may contain gold just so I could see some yellow in the pan! I wish people sold dirt like that. I know I'm silly. Anyway keep up the Great work sir!! If you ever wanna give some shout outs on a video me and my son would love that!! I'm Ken Bull and he is Ken Bull jr! If not no worries! have a Great day!🌞🌞🌞
Don't feel alone with all the stupid laws, California isn't far behind. There are a couple of outfits that sell, what they call paydirt for panning. I have no idea if you get anything, but I have seen there adds. I had a great time taking the kids out mining. Now all my kids are grown up, but I now have grandkids to take out with me - even better. Good luck and thank you.
Two Toes No problem! I was wondering when looking in a creek if you see iron oxide or bog iron could gold be near by? I'm just trying to see what to look for when looking in creeks? I had no clue they sold pay dirt!! :-) I'm gonna buy some and let you know how much I paid and if I found anything! :-)
All I know is placer mining. I have no idea what the types of rocks are. I just know what looks good and what doesn't. Sorry I'm not much help. I would love to know how you do on the paydirt, I have always wondered. Thanks - Gary
If it will ever stop raining, I have plan to do a " how to find gold with high water " video. It looks like the rivers will be high for next couple of months. Thanks - Gary
I've got a dry rig that shakes out most things lighter than iron, but I have no idea what I do to transition the leftovers to panning, this helps, but I'm always afraid I'm missing a step.
I think we are out of the woods now. I am trying to figure out how to get them off the dam, and get them to start cleaning up the roads so I can get to gold country.
Well, like a lot of other folks here I too am anxious to see the Mercury video. Thank you, very informative. Should be good flood gold this year, especially in your area. Later
good video and learned another way to free the yellow medal from black sand, i like it and looks like it works pretty good. thanks you Two Toes i appreciate it. Ron
Binge!! Just found your channel,, enjoying it! I know there's gold in the river near where I live, have pan shovel even a white gold detector, wanting to try my hand at it which is why I'm binge watching your videos lol.. the river has boat loads of black sand a few rocks+ small gravel, not allot of big rocks to look in crevice.. my question is where to get sand from, it's not all black there's normal beach sand type sand bar that sparkles like crazy when the waters low and it's exposed., Thanks and I subbed
Great vid Gary very informative and a pleasure to watch I would like to know where you got your magnifying glass as I am also getting up there this would make it easier thanks
I used to sell them in my store. I will check and see if I have any left, if I do I will put them up in my ebay store. They were less than 5 dollars if I remember correctly. Thanks - Gary
Thank You for the great video and information. I am brand new at this, Just trying to learn. Am I correct in thinking that the small gold classified down to to 50 would be lighter then the black sand that is classified at larger then 20. Please correct me where I am wrong. Again Thank You.
Whats the story on that magnifier? Is there a name for that style of lens? I ask because when i was a kid my grandpa had one just like that made of brass that would fold it was much smaller of course but ive always wonder what they’re actually for🤷🏻♂️
The black sand doesn't rust because it's already in the form of an oxide meaning the oxygen atoms are already bonded (if that makes sense). Magnetite will be attracted by most of the store bought magnets but the hematite black sand will remain. Hematite is only very slightly magnetic. So the only way to remove that stuff is to either use one of the big neodymium magnets or to clean it up with the spiral or the blue bowl (mercury being an option most would tend to avoid). One of the cool things about magnetite is they are like tiny 8 sided crystals. It still amazes me how small those crystals can be.
I have thought of making an inverted soda bottle stratifier, for eliminating the black sands, where the gold in the end drops in the screw cap Could this idea work?
Man I wish I could find what you call real fine gold here in Ga. Those are nuggets where I live. It would take 15 pieces to equal 1 of yours. It is true flour gold but there's plenty of it.
It seems that there are a few replies regarding separating black sand by means of chemical or heat application. I would say it is certainly possible but the increase in cost of such methods may well out way the derived value of gold attained.
Their are so many products out there! It does not matter what you use, at the end it still comes down to the gold pan and a screen to get the fine gold.
always really interesting and thanks to share your knowledge and experience, i hope you will do a video really soon about how you use your tumbler, i wish you have a nice day
Thanks for another informative and easily understood video. I look forward to your videos and watch them multiple times to make sure that I don't miss anything. Hopefully, I will be able to get down your way and stop by the shop one day.
Question - Even If you don't see any visible gold in your black sand, is it worth keeping the black sands for processing later on? I've been keeping all my black sands in a dish for now. Thank you!
How much do you make if your hobby is water skiing or riding a bike? It's the day out and the excitement of the hunt. For me and I think, most people the gold is a trophy the value doesn't really matter. With that said, after 50 years of selling my gold and putting the money into a retirement account, it is worth it.
The whole TH-cam idea was started by my son Joe. After he got out of the Marines he built a rock crawler, every now and then I put a picture of it in the intro. The original plan was to make a channel that had 4 wheeling and prospecting. The two toe idea came from the fact that a mountain goat can go anywhere, hence the goat and the name two toes. Joe's wife, is in the Air force and got stationed in Omaha, Neb. There are no mountains in Nebraska, so the plan kinda fell apart. I was having fun making the videos so decided to keep going. I kept the Two Toes name, because I like it and who knows, some day I might get a 4 wheeler!
Why doesn't black sand rust? It consist of iron, yes? If someone could find a way to do it, you could rinse off the rust....The remaining particles would be light sand, easy to separate))
its actually pretty easy if black sand is just iron( i dont know exactly) but if yes you could dissolve the black sand in an acid, the gold will not react with the acid and remain solid
Life is black and white, good vs. bad. So with the gold, its funny how it's always with the magnetite, and usually a lot compared to the gold. Little bit of good gold, whole lot of bad black
Too much time to work. The 100+ buckets of black sands I have will have to wait until I'm in diapers again and have nothing to do but watch reruns of The Lawrence Welk Show.

Amazing Information and videography, thanks for sharing.
Great information! Thanks for sharing. I want to gold hunt with you some day! -AX
Thank you, if I ever get to retire, I would have more time to take people out. Thank!

Question what if you glued some small magnets beneath your gold pan on one side?

Great video Gary thanks for the priceless info!!!
I have a wash running right behind myy house and it is FULL of Black sand, I paned it once and I did find a little gold in it.
I would like too see the tumbler !
Mercury amalgam processing is something I've never done. Please do more bids on start to finish process. Thank you much friend!
Great Stuff! Cant wait to see the Mercury cleaning!
Thank you.
Loved your shirt. When I'm watching your video's when you're on the streams I'm not sure if I want a gold pan or fishing pole if I was there.
Crowman both! That’s the real gold to prospecting, being in the remote beauty backcountry
8 hours minimum work
The rest is fishing lol
@twotoes will you be at the Lodi gold show?
Thanks for the video . I'm new to panning and your video helped a lot . Can't wait for summer .
Dry classified. Who would have thunk it. Thanks two toes. Another awsome tip I gotta try
It works either way, but I find dry is easier. Thanks - Gary
Love your videos. It would be great to see more about where to look for flood gold and Crevicing. Please keep them coming.
If it will ever stop raining, I have plan to do a " how to find gold with high water " video. It looks like the rivers will be high for next couple of months. Thanks - Gary
I'll be looking out for that video! :)
Danny Hi

Thank you I learned more in this video than reading books
Thank you for the great videos! You seem like a great guy! God bless you sir!
oh yeah boo boo haven't gotten into using the Mercury yet thanks for a few more tips and makes it a little easier for me to work my concentrate😎👍👊💣💥
Thanks
Thanks Gary, looking forward to the tumbler video.
Are you keeping a close eye on the dam.
I think we are out of the woods now. I am trying to figure out how to get them off the dam, and get them to start cleaning up the roads so I can get to gold country.
passing a magnet under the pan seperates them this easy.
Well, like a lot of other folks here I too am anxious to see the Mercury video. Thank you, very informative. Should be good flood gold this year, especially in your area. Later
Should get it finished this weekend. Should be a good year, that is if it ever stops raining. Thanks - Gary
Some of this black sand might be another exotic metal....correct?
good video and learned another way to free the yellow medal from black sand, i like it and looks like it works pretty good. thanks you Two Toes i appreciate it.
Ron
Glad to help!
Also a good way to separate pyrite and other sulfide for leaching project.

Treat it like it's concentrate and just grab buckets lol or ?
COOL! Thanks for sharing!

Did you use dish soap
Whats the story on that magnifier? Is there a name for that style of lens? I ask because when i was a kid my grandpa had one just like that made of brass that would fold it was much smaller of course but ive always wonder what they’re actually for🤷🏻♂️
Great instruction Gary, much thanks.
Thank you.
Love your great and informative videos Gary. Keep em coming
Cheers from down under
Mark
Thank you.
That would be cool to see you showcase the Gold Bug 2 if you are familiar with using it:)!
I would not be a good choice, I haven't run one for at least 15 years. Thanks - Gary

i have a metal pan , its a little rusty is that ok or should i clean it
Thanks for the video always a hard job for me but doing it your way looks somewhat easier.
Like everything, the more you do it the easer it becomes. Thanks - Gary
Whats name of panner for removing rocks
Thanks Dave! Hope to see ya out thar!
Terry M ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for your nowledge body, ı learnd lots of from you.
Salute from Turkey.
Thanks!
I have thought of making an inverted soda bottle stratifier, for eliminating the black sands, where the gold in the end drops in the screw cap
Could this idea work?
I very well could, you should give it a try. Do some test. Would love to know how it works. Thanks - Gary
Did you ever test your idea, and did it work? I am very curious. Please reply if you see this comment. Thank you
Great video,,,, very informative,,,,👍👍😀😀✌

Fairly new to your videos but your old ones are just as good as the recent ones A subscriber now OF COURSE NOW >THANKS
Gary, you should tell them also to click on the bell, to get quickest notifications of your new videos.
Thanks Gary! Ceers from frozen Idaho.....interested in the next vid! jd
Summer is on the way! Thanks - Gary
Is it possible to bypass all these intermediate steps with the Gold Cube or any other machine?
Their are so many products out there! It does not matter what you use, at the end it still comes down to the gold pan and a screen to get the fine gold.
Could you use a magnent in a river in a black sand
Can you process larger quantities using this method without losing fine gold?
Yes, it just takes longer. I use mercury if I have a large amount to do.
always really interesting and thanks to share your knowledge and experience, i hope you will do a video really soon about how you use your tumbler, i wish you have a nice day
Have been working on the video should be ready in about a week. Thanks - Gary
Great video
Thanks for another informative and easily understood video. I look forward to your videos and watch them multiple times to make sure that I don't miss anything. Hopefully, I will be able to get down your way and stop by the shop one day.
Thank you very much!
I am absolutely new to this game so I was wondering if someone might tell me what a blue bowl is??!!
Great video!!
Thank you.
Question - Even If you don't see any visible gold in your black sand, is it worth keeping the black sands for processing later on? I've been keeping all my black sands in a dish for now. Thank you!
The only way to find out, is process some of it or you can have it assayed. Thanks - Gary
Thanks for the info thumbs up to you
How do you separate the fine gold from the fine gold covered in mercury?
I did a video on how to do it. th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=3NF8Fr5seZ4
have you ever mined for gold in yukon?
No. I don't like working in very cold water, so I have never given it much thought.
Would .08 gram pay for the gas to go over there to get it? I am not trying to be snide I just want to know f it is worth trying for. Thank you.
How much do you make if your hobby is water skiing or riding a bike? It's the day out and the excitement of the hunt. @@TwoToes Actually I can't afford a hobby lol. Thank you for the answer. :
LOL Thank you! I love it
What magnet strength do u use? I want to buy exactly what u use. Thanks!
Any of the rare earth magnets are good. I prefer the Neodymium disc about 1/2" to 3/4" round and about 1/4" to 1/2" thick.
Have you ever tried a magnet to remove the black sand from the gold?
Did you watch the video?
I guess I must have skipped over the part with the magnet.
Thank you very much
Good Job !!!
show us how to use the mercury
why do they call you two toes? do you only have two toes on one foot just curious is all.
The whole TH-cam idea was started by my son Joe. After he got out of the Marines he built a rock crawler, every now and then I put a picture of it in the intro. thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question your awesome
I wish there was a place near me to look for gold.
What river is that?
Feather River.
Two Toes thanks!
Thanks sir, I also have black sand like at video, and I will try to separate, may be it contains gold, greetings from Indonesia
Why doesn't black sand rust? It consist of iron, yes? If someone could find a way to do it, you could rinse off the rust....The remaining particles would be light sand, easy to separate))
Seeking TKO Seeking TKO black sand is mostly made of magnetite, which is iron oxide (Fe3O4), so it can't rust.
its actually pretty easy if black sand is just iron( i dont know exactly) but if yes you could dissolve the black sand in an acid, the gold will not react with the acid and remain solid
you can melt the black sand into iron
My black sand is only about 5% magnetic by volume.. sad.
Life is black and white, good vs. bad. So with the gold, its funny how it's always with the magnetite, and usually a lot compared to the gold. Little bit of good gold, whole lot of bad black
thank you, sir !!! REAL gold info.
Thank you very much.
Nice
You keep showing the big nuggets....... but you NEVER show when you find them??
👍
Shaloms ! !
I cant believe someone would give a thumbs down for this video. boo hiss.
There is one in every crowd.
The ones that give a thumbs down are jealous and are internet trolls
🌹🌹🌹👍👍👍💯⛏️⛏️⛏️🌷
Yea...Elon Musk is gonna follow up on this one...with compitition from Virgin
Too much time to work. The 100+ buckets of black sands I have will have to wait until I'm in diapers again and have nothing to do but watch reruns of The Lawrence Welk Show.
