VLOG - W126 Mercedes 300SD - Daily Driving Around Town - Interstate Merging and High Speed

This is for those who are wondering what it is like to daily drive a properly running 300SD - yes this is my daily driver. It gets groceries, goes on weekend road trips, makes numerous runs to the local auto parts store and any other use for which one would normally use their modern vehicle. I recently made a 500-mile one-day round trip to Tennessee and back. The more I drive this car the more I wonder why anyone would want to daily drive anything else.

So is mine! 1984 300SD 700,000+ road tank. I was gonna do a cold start video a few days ago in the PNW but it's just starts no matter how cold it is so what's the point.. lol Plus the heater works like a champ! No better rear wheel drive car in the winter with proper tires.

They are slow from a stop but on the highway when the turbo kicks in, they move. Its definitely an interstate traveling car.

Great to see the cruise control working well. I'm surprised that the diesel RPMs at motorway (highway) speeds are higher than the V8s.

I am surprised it revs that high...almost 3000RPM@60mph.

3.07 gears in the rear end from the factory. The trans final gear is 1:1 so that's all you get with these cars. An overdrive trans would have been a nice option.

For daily use the gear ratio's overall are a bit too short. Driving ~120km/h with nearly 3500rpm would be no good on the german autobahn. Ever thought of changing the diff gear? Greetings, Marlon

the om617 needs to run at higher rpm, because it has so little power in the lower rpm range, so the change in diff gear ratio should'nt be to high, otherwise it doesn't accelerate anymore

@@ImpalamansGarage 1985 300SD has a factory 2.88 diff. It makes highway cruising a little tamer
