Gaming Dreamer totally. One of my best friends bought this game when it first came out and I’d never heard anything about it. I played it and got hooked instantly lol. Spent countless hours playing it over and over after borrowing it from him. Hell I didn’t wanna give it back lol. Glad he made me aware of it otherwise I would have never played this amazing game
I beat this game! :) First waterfall level have a easy trick, it is to wait 1 second after the level start that just press the gas and never let it go... your not gonna miss a jump.
i have great memories of this game.... i played this when i was a kid during very hot summer days of 1989 at my friend's basement, after swimming in the pool and eating Mr. Freeze.... GREAT memories.
guy driving the boat must hate his life, you can see the boat has a built in helicopter propeller proving he could have just flown over the waterfalls yet he keeps sailing into the abyss.
The sound the boat makes when it falls off the water fall sounds like the same sound you hear when you fall off a cliff and lose your marble in Marble Madness :D
The graphics and animations in this game are pretty darn impressive! Of course since it's NES it lacks in the way of colour-count but what they did there with those sorta pre-rendered sprites and smooth animations looks really good!
Uh oh! Don't go chasing waterfalls. Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to. I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all. I just think you're movin' too fast!
i rented this game once, when there was renting to be done.. a few years back i bought this when i went on a binge buying old lost games i loved playing, still really fun, but hard as heck.
I would have said that RC Pro Am was the prototype, and that this is more like Snake, Rattle & Roll but with different sprites. Fair play to Rare (an English company), most of their games (including Wizards & Warriors and Donkey Kong Country) had fabulous music!
I just bought this randomly in a bulk lot, for some reason I'd assumed this was a vertical shooter like Tiger Heli or something. I didn't even know it was made by Rare. Can't wait til it shows up now! I'm a glutton for Battletoads and Snake Rattle n Roll...
I owned this game as a kid. I beat it a few times by the skin of my teeth! It took a hell of a lot of practice! The waterfall levels weren't too hard once you figured them out, but yeah, the game was super hard! If you didn't have the right upgrades at a certain point of the game, you just weren't going to beat it that time. Still loved it though. Played the shit out of it. And it even had battery backup to keep your high scores! Not too many games had battery backup unless it saved your progress. This game did not save progress.
the fail/ death music brings back so many pissed off moments of death...and failure, but I remember beating it when I was like 10 and pretty much considering myself a god lol
You serious!? Favorite memory of an nes game that was so fun, but in the same time pissed me off for hours and hours. Such an underrated game. Thanks for the review! Go PENS!
I always loved this game. Sure it might be on the tough side, but if you play it enough you figure out the timing and how to get a lot of free 1-Ups. I'm surprised Mark didn't make a mention of how the one mission stage in Cobra Triangle is a ripoff of Rip-Off. :) That and the races were my favorite parts of CT. Anyone notice the Marble Madness sound effect also used here when you fall off the waterfall? Rare also programmed the excellent NES port of that as well.
Not just the waterfall levels, but quite a few others seem to have that quarter vacuum feel that many of the arcade games of the time had. Like they were deliberately designed to take as many of your lives as possible, somewhat unfairly at times. The most disappointing thing for me was that the game was actually really good when it wasn't trying to actively destroy you. Add in the fact that you only get two continues, and you've effectively taken a game that probably should've been legendary, and turned it into a hot pile of frustrating garbage. The type of nes experience that makes you rage quit and seek out years old reviews to comment on and vent your frustration.
one of the best under rated NES titles

I beat this game! :)

LOL at the TLC reference. Don't go chasing waterfalls Mark, stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
I always wanted that game when I was a child. But instead my father bought me Mega Man 2... A pretty good deal in fact.
the best game of all time is mega man 2 lol
I used to rent this many times back in the day, and while it was frustrating I really enjoyed playing it!
same
i have great memories of this game.... i played this when i was a kid during very hot summer days of 1989 at my friend's basement, after swimming in the pool and eating Mr. Freeze.... GREAT memories.
this game is really cool
My mom randomly bought me this game. It was good!
If you think the waterfalls were bad, you haven't seen the iceberg stage!
guy driving the boat must hate his life, you can see the boat has a built in helicopter propeller proving he could have just flown over the waterfalls yet he keeps sailing into the abyss.
Only in a video game can waterfalls exist like that
It's the music when falling down the waterfall that makes it like a kick to the groin. Insult to injury.
Owned this game, was alot of fun
Kenny Jones I still own it. I’ll never part with it!
The boat turning animation is so smooth. If I didn't know better I'd say they used some kind of vector system.
Its good that this game isnt RC Pro AM with boats, because we had Eliminator Boat Duel on NES. How many RC Pro AMs you need with boats anyways?
The sound the boat makes when it falls off the water fall sounds like the same sound you hear when you fall off a cliff and lose your marble in Marble Madness :D
I loved this game growing up AND I own it now.
Solid indeed!
This is more like Snake Rattle N Roll with boats. That's falling death sound...
hah when you fall down the waterfall, it's the same sound effect from marble madness when you fall off the edge.
you can farm power-ups on the first level if you keep getting the 1up.
COBRA TRIANGLE GRIND.
The graphics and animations in this game are pretty darn impressive!
Of course since it's NES it lacks in the way of colour-count but what they did there with those sorta pre-rendered sprites and smooth animations looks really good!
Cobra Battletoads: The Waterfall Mission!
Aww it's a classic. And, one of my all time favorites when young. Got to last boss and died. Like most NES titles, it took practice.
I really enjoyed this game, one of my favs for NES.
Don't go chasing waterfalls, stick to the centipedes that you're used to lord carnage
Uh oh! Don't go chasing waterfalls. Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to. I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all. I just think you're movin' too fast!
+John Jenkins Gaaaaaaaaaay
Nice name, Adonis!
The more I played it the better I got with the water falls and whirlpools. Lol!
Need to spend more time with this game, but RC Pro AM on water was exactly my impression.
Hardest game I ever owned - loved it! Completed it a few times but at the expense of needing therapy for the next 30 years.
Boat can helicopter to the next stage but has to deal with a bunch of bullshit obstacles with a time limit for no reason.
I've always hated the stage were you have to go up a river with spinning logs and whirlpools
i rented this game once, when there was renting to be done.. a few years back i bought this when i went on a binge buying old lost games i loved playing, still really fun, but hard as heck.
I could never ever beat the crab boss as a kid. Had big problems with the protect the kids also. Ohh the memorys from my childhood :D
one of those titles featured on the NES poster
I grew up with the NES. So how did I miss this gem?
I loved this game as a kid, seriously one of my real favourite!
Mark, just stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
Great game. I think I have this one in my collection or at least I used to.
I would have said that RC Pro Am was the prototype, and that this is more like Snake, Rattle & Roll but with different sprites.
Fair play to Rare (an English company), most of their games (including Wizards & Warriors and Donkey Kong Country) had fabulous music!
You need to review some C64 games, like target renagade and spy hunter
Haha Cobra Triangle! I had this as a kid and couldn't even beat it with game genie,
I think we all know that waterfalls, as taught to us by TLC, give you STD's
If you thought the waterfalls were hard, wait until you see the iceberg level. Don't say I didn't warn you.
This is going to be on rare replay coming out aug 4th for xbone
top 5 on the NES easily.
I just bought this randomly in a bulk lot, for some reason I'd assumed this was a vertical shooter like Tiger Heli or something. I didn't even know it was made by Rare. Can't wait til it shows up now! I'm a glutton for Battletoads and Snake Rattle n Roll...
James Dean its an amazing game actually. I’d buy it again if I already didn’t have it
I've played this in the DKC 3 GBA versión, cool game.
Stevie Wonder - Master Blaster at 4:35 :)
Bimini run was crazy hard too.
This game was my child hood Alexay for snes should have worked on my killer instinct combos though
I'm still playing this in 2021 😄

Waterfall levels kinda remind me of the turbo tunnel on battletoads.
the fail/ death music brings back so many pissed off moments of death...and failure, but I remember beating it when I was like 10 and pretty much considering myself a god lol
Rare games. They learned ya what you needed to know to handle life.
You serious!? Favorite memory of an nes game that was so fun, but in the same time pissed me off for hours and hours. Such an underrated game. Thanks for the review! Go PENS!
"Remember how hard NES games used to be?" That's why you used Game Genie lol
Difficulty meant longevity back then.
Now we have freemium skinner boxes! Ah, the joys of the modern age.
Finally I'm the first to tell you:
"Fucking Awesome man !"
This is an awesome game, thank you for reviewing it. How far have you gotten in this?
What I would expect from Rare?
Well, when I played their Nightmare on Elm Street game on NES...
Oh my! It´s approaching. The day is coming in a week! I don´t want to say goodbye to my cats!
Anyone else used to get the 1up on the first level, power up, die, repeat? 😂
do we have this to thank for giving us the Turbo Tunnel?
oh shit Cobra Triangle!
If we want to donate a game, do you have a link so we know what you already have? would love to donate a couple things
I loved that game. And yes the waterfall level was the worst.
What the hell is it with old rare and racing stages? Battle toads stage 3...
If you played Donkey Kong Country 3 on the Game Boy Advance then you should be pretty familiar with Cobra Triange.
Giant enemy crab!
Oh man I used to love this fucking game
Yeah I only got to the crab too.. Lol
I remember that game, I liked it but it was pretty damn hard.
Lots of little brothers around the world were beat up by there older sibling due to this game.
I always loved this game. Sure it might be on the tough side, but if you play it enough you figure out the timing and how to get a lot of free 1-Ups.

Does this game remind you of RC PRO AM? Because I didn’t catch it the first billion times.
Omg loved this game. This and the hockey one with thin, fat and regular guys.
I have this. It does go for a good price. I give it a "D" rating...not a minus...but not a plus...I guess only cause it's Rare
LOL buffalo,ny live like 10 - 15 min from there
I love this game.
looks pretty good
Amazing game
That's what happens when you chase waterfalls. Stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're use to next time.
I never played this game, but it looks fun.
I liked cobra triangle a lot more than RC PRO am. But that’s just me.
played a lot of this and stinger
Mark, you should have listened to the lakes and the rivers that you're used to. xD :P
This game is okay.
Don't go chasin'....whirlpools?
Stick to the waterfalls without moving jump ramps..
I see what you did there

Some of these old games dont even deserve a review Mark...
This game just took practice. If you never got good at it as a kid it'll probably be hard now.
I had this game. Oh god, it was frustrating to play! I was 9 when I got it and the crab killed me EVERY TIME!
BTW: the waterfall level? Easy.
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
Giant Enemy Crab o.o
Ugh, I also hated the hostage stage in this game. I just gave up and watched my brother play. One look at the waterfall stage and I knew it was Hell.
oh and u have to stop the boats from helping gigant ppl too ! looks like u play as a psycho xD
Why the name change?
Looks like a great idea, but sounds like it's not a homerun. Excellent review though!
i love these game alot as a kid, but dame it so frustrating hard, i grow soft
I owned this game!!
you hated waterfalls before due to TLC as in 'tender loving care'?
