    The only drama seems to come from vloggers, I have lived in Dumaguete for nine years, I walk on the boulevard a lot of the time, what do I see..? I see people getting on with their lives, eating, talking, laughing, kids having fun on the volleyball courts, there is no drama that I can see, maybe some people should stop thinking that they are an authority on the Philippines and get on with their lives like the rest of us..

    • @markm4623
      @markm4623 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most bloggers are bums. They need the money from TH-cam to survive in the Philippines. That’s why they manufacture drama to raise their views. People with no lives believe it. That’s my take.

    The parking deal there as far as condos go is actually an awesome deal. Rather than raise the price of the condo and say that parking is free-like they would with most condos here sold here in the US-the Philippines’ way of doing it allows you a choice of not having the parking included in the overall price so if you don’t care for parking you get the condo only at a much lower price!

      @mikesphilippineretirement it's the ones who vlog walking around and not caring if they video you or ask your permission, in coffee shops etc. Everywhere you go in Dumaguete there is people vlogging and talking and not caring where they point the cameras. Then there are the ones that badmouth the towns/cities or the country, if you don't like it or the way it is here then your free to leave.

    I am almost packed, I just have to unload my car and do the health certificates for my dogs. I have never been to Dumaguete, but I lived in Thailand in the 80s and 90s and loved every second of it. This morning I have to find a hotel to stay at while I search for a house. I also have to do the import license for my dogs. I need an address for my dogs health certificates and import license. I hope that I can use the hotels. I can't wait to get over there and away from the madness that the US has become.

Though I've seen expat vloggers occasionally criticize high profile vloggers in other parts of the Philippines too. Though I'm not there in Dumaguete so I realize I have a narrow perspective. If you join expat forums on Facebook that is far more toxic in my experience. Definitely best for Expats to be good guests in the Philippines and support each other.

    As a local, I noticed that most vloggers who criticize expats are new vloggers who are struggling to get views. They want attention at the expense of established vloggers. Established vloggers don't criticize other ex-pats except for very specific reasons (like that of Paul Caldwell the Fraudster). This is where the toxicity starts - jealousy and insecurities.

I'm gonna digress just a tiny bit here because Mike made it a point to mention that he doesn't watch the Filipina Pea. During a conversation regarding all of the drama that's going on in Dumaguete, he chose to highlight this fact. Nobody cares who you watch or don't watch. But this seemingly insignificant comment screams of pettiness and drama. Mike is better than this, and I truly hope he's not adopting the 'Dumaguete Deciple' mindset. Those guys are disgusting. Mike and Janet are awesome all by themselves, and the only way that we know that they are embroiled in "Dramaguete" foolishness is when they talk about it. Dumaguete is WAY overrated. I’m here now after staying years in Cebu City. Wanted to try a new place. There’s only one benefit Dumaguete has over Cebu City: bigger places to rent for less. Other than that Dumaguete is like going back in time in a bad way. The place doesn’t even have taxis. They have these antiquated pedicabs. The best hospital in Dumaguete sucks in comparison to the hospitals in Cebu City.
    Bottom line, Cebu City is MODERN. Dumaguete is FAR BEHIND. I’m kind of shocked why there are so many foreigners here. I think we’ll probably be moving back to Cebu City before the end of the year.

    • @WatchCaliforniaExpat
      @WatchCaliforniaExpat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark, it's very interesting to get your thoughts on this. What prompted you to move there to begin with? Was there something that initially attracted you that wore off after time?

    • @markm4623
      @markm4623 ปีที่แล้ว

      We had a baby on the way. It seemed like a good place when I visited. I thought Cebu was too big of a city to raise our child but now I see it differently after staying in Dumaguete for about 6 months now. I don’t think our child can learn much here in Dumaguete. It’s too much like the province which means far behind modern society. The schools are certainly not as good as you’ll find in Cebu either. I think we can live not in the city but like what we would call a suburb back home. I’m thinking Talamban, Liloan. Something like that. Not in the city but about 15 min beep ride from the city.
      Not to be rude but many of people in the province are just ignorant. It’s ironic coming from me cause I’m from the South but the people here in the province a lot believe crazy stuff, superstitions about health, etc not backed by science but only passed down from generation to generation within their small town. I don’t want our child believing such nonsense.

    • @markm4623
      @markm4623 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s like this in the province. If their Lola told them it’s harmful to take a bath after getting hot and sweating then they believe it with their whole heart because that’s what everyone else in their family does. To me it’s just a crazy way of thinking

      @WatchCaliforniaExpat  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tony, I went back and forth on this question for a long time before starting a second channel. My first channel is focused on business in the Philippines and it's a very niche topic. Most foreigners who come to the Philippines want to retire--not work or start a business. The main reason I decided to start the second channel is to be able to vlog about life in the Philippines more generally. And I want to cover some things I don't see other vlogs covering over here.

    Hey mike, consider the weather in Cebu, you can search videos from "sunshine shoulders" where he was in cebu during & at the aftermath of a typhoon that bashed the city pretty bad, not sure they fully recovered from it yet.
    This kind of disasters are historically less felt down south much beyond heavy lasting rains and brownouts.

    • @WatchCaliforniaExpat
      @WatchCaliforniaExpat  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was here during Typhoon Odette in Cebu City and it was bad for sure. Though typhoons are much rarer in Cebu than other parts of the Philippines because it's sandwiched between Luzon and Mindanao

    • @markm4623

      I think that typhoons are more common in Cebu City than Dumaguete between it’s closer to the typhoon belt. Even if it’s not a direct hit Cebu City feels more of an impact from the typhoons that frequently hit Samer, Lyte. Dumaguete is farther south. Typhoons are much rarer in Dumaguete.

      I've personally had good experiences renting on airbnb for about two years in the Philippines in multiple condos. What I like is you can see ratings of past experiences. Apart from that you can find lots of place for rent in Facebook Marketplace though there's less accountability because no ratings.
