- ☕ Hey everyone, I've been challenged by myself (and also my lovely group of fellow artists) to create some more editorial illustrations for my portfolio.
I've chosen an article about Leonardo da Vinci, which was super interesting, I'd love to research more about him!
I take you through my process from start to finish, including a failed first attempt, and how I manage to fix it.

This is a great idea for a self-initiated project! I love the idea of a group of friends who inspire and challenge each other. Pencils give such a lovely texture!

Its so cool to see your process! I whipped out the old pens last night to make myself draw the old fashioned way and also without an eraser. I so admire your technique, and its really cool to see it all come together at the end in the magazine mockup :)
Sammie Clark Art thank you Sammie, oh yeah drawing without an eraser is fun but scary isn’t it. But the way I work at the moment I’ve already worked out my composition and used the eraser a ton so it doesn’t matter too much when I’m drawing the final version. Unless I decide I need to start all again! 😂

I loved your illustration! Really great idea to set yourself this challenge, especially with friends so you keep accountable. I was inspired to read a bit more about Leonardo da Vinci - he really was a nice man! Apparently he was a vegetarian, and used to buy caged birds so he could set them free! xx

This is super inspiring and something I really needed ❤️ I know this was a self initiated project! but do you get a lot of editorial work and do you have any advice if so?
Manda Loouise Thanks Amanda, no I’m not getting any editorial work which is why I’m wanting to build my portfolio up and then I can hopefully attract some good clients. I’m going to email some magazine art directors when I’ve done more of these. I feel like this will be great practice for me too ☺️
