  • Eamonn O'Neal and Nicky Fox take a look at two Jaguar E-Type XK8, one from the 1970's and the other from 1997, and they take a look at how the car has changed over the years. The classic Jag' has a 4.2L, 6-cylinder engine, which has a top speed of 150mph and a 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds, where as the 1997 model has a slightly less powerful 4.0L V8, but has a faster top speed of 154mph and a faster 0-60 time of 6.7 seconds. Plus we speak to Jaguar enthusiast Ian Howe, who own the classic Jag', to find out how he got his hands on the car and what sort of condition it was in when he first got it.

I had a 2000 XKR, the supercharged version. What a beautiful monster. Still, a costly car to use as a daily driver. If I had room for it, I would have kept it for weekends, but alas. Choices had to be made.

This is actually from an episode from the Granada TV produced show The Motor Show that was aired in the 1990s, I know this because I have an episode on tape that shows this same review of the E-Type and XK8, although I think the music is different here to the the original recording I have. Why did they reuse the same footage for Men and Motors, kinda cheap way of making a programme without actually doing any filming by regurgitating footage from a different show.
Speaking of The Motor Show, but does anyone know how long that series ran for as I can't find any information on it anywhere; IMDB comes up with nothing even when I type in the presenters name, there's no mention of The Motor Show. All that I can remember is that it was shown on a Monday night during mid-late 90s, but no idea if it continued later than 1996/7 and into the 2000s. Anyone know?.

£25,000 for that E-Type back then? I'll have two lol. I'd like to find an E-Type in that condition for that money today - not a cat in hell's chance. You'd be looking in the region of around 40-60 grand today. I think the late 90s was a perfect time to snap up an E-Type at a sensible price, just before they rocketed through the roof.

+systemanic its not just the e types either its the whole market. in the past 10 years ferraris from the era have gone up 400% or something like that. its a miracle to find a 275 gtb/4 for less than 1mill today. typically finding cars that are over 500k when they cost around 6-12k pounds new. the market for classic cars is crazy. its legitimately done better than gold and real estate (for certain cars of course).

@@h7pubg They are indeed. I've noticed in the past year or so E-Types are going for around 90-150k plus for a decent S1 FHC or roadster, and if you are a purist who wants a very early S1 you're talking nearly 200k. I think Jaguar produced a new E-Type that is worth 300k lol. Prices are getting really silly, only people who have millions can afford them now, gone is the OAP who had a nice paid job and saved up when he retired so he could afford his dream E-Type, now it's a millionaires only ownership club.
I once spotted the same E-Type shown here on a Sunday visit to New Brighton on the Wirral back in 2016, so looks like the same bloke still owns it, and I bet he won't be parting company with it anytime soon with the money it's worth now, certainly more than 25 grand, more like 90 grand. The same E-Type was also featured in a 1999 issue of Practical Classics where they visit Liverpool. The owner doesn't sound very scouse to me, but what scouser can afford an E-Type lol. People regard the north west of the UK as being not very wealthy, but I've been to a few local meets in Lancashire where the motors consist of real Ferrari 250s and 275 GTB, Aston Martin DB5, Ferrari California Spyder (one a recreation and the other a real one), lots of E-Types, Ferrari Dino etc, and these will have been local people. Where the hell are people getting that kind of money from?. Noone I know has that kind of money. How the other half live.

@@Embracing01 Classic car prices sky rocketed in the 1980's and plummeted in the 90s. Don't worry folks the same will happen again! Keep an eye out.

This review is taken from an episode of The Motor Show (made by Granada TV) from about 1996/7, so looks like they have just reused the footage from that episode into this Men and Motors video.
