How does that theory work with Cassandras story and the Seeker of Truth lore we learn from Inquisition? She and the seekers were made tranquil and then touched by a spirit of faith, which restored them. If the executors are related to tranquills, than the seekers should have some type of connection to that too.
I'm glad you bring this up! I think there's some kind of distinction between voluntarily becoming tranquil and being forced to. Cassandra recalls going through this meditative ritual of prayer and slowly slipping away. We don't know much about mages becoming tranquil, but judging from the branding on their foreheads, I don't think it's that peaceful.
Hmm we only find their insignias in places where the Veil is thin so you may be right that they're spirits. And it would explain why Veilguard only brushes on the Titans this time instead of letting them come center stage since they're basically tranquil themselves.
You've definitely hit on a few things I've been thinking myself. The Executors have always struck me as being similar to the Discworld's Auditors, which would either make them spirits or something entirely outside our current understanding of the physical/spiritual divide. My only qualm with the idea of them being the spirits of Tranquil based in the Fade is that we don't really know the full effects of Veilguard's endgame on the world at large yet. For the decades of story time we've played, the Veil has had places that it's worn thin or been breached, letting spirits through or allowing them greater influence over mortals through dreams and subconscious whispering. With the restoration of the Veil, the suggestion is that it's been renewed and is more stable than before. There's always the possibility that it's just been reset to zero damage and that, over time, it will wear away again (especially if helped along the way by entities on either side) which could be an issue further along the timeline and could require tracking down the Forgotten Ones as the need to reinforce it occurs. Or it could be a whole new kind of Veil that's more resistant. Either way, I'd imagine if the Executors (either in the majority if they're individual beings or their 'hub', if we're looking at more of a hive mind of spirits cut off from Tranquil bodies) were based within the Fade, Rook and co may have just made it more difficult for them to influence and infiltrate the physical world to some degree. It's a really interesting theory to consider and it's definitely going to have me going back to my older codex collections to look at in deeper detail!
From Veilguard, we know that the evanuris were originally spirits. I wonder if the spirits associated with the evanuris before they took physical form could be related to the executors? I've got a lot to ponder now. The way the executors speak about themselves has a very "we are legion" feel to it. But it also echos how some tranquil speak too. As someone who has been playing DA since it came out in 09, it makes me so happy to see people discussing lore and coming up with theories again. Great video!

Absolutely love the implication that tranquil spirits are connected to this somehow, it would be a great way to open the door to a possible seeker protag connection in the next game or at least have the seekers be an active faction. It makes me wonder why the average tranquil spirit would care about manipulating some of these events/people like the evanuris which steers me more towards the "titan spirits as tranquil" idea cus they for sure would have an axe to grind about all that and you could argue that it's all been a long game to try and get revenge on the evanuris. Titan tranquil gathering an army of tranquil spirits every time someone in thedas performs that messed up ritual, the hubris.
a n d it would be a fun juxtaposition to go from exploring: people who got corrupted and possessed by demons, pure spirits that become corrupted to demons, pure spirits that become evanuris, to now people that got forcibly separated from their souls to make them manageable and the soul is now it's own independent entity that has become something else entirely and it's m a d. the concept that a tranquil can be this walking shell of a person and have this soul walking around seeking control and vengeance would be such a great metaphor for masking lmao.
