To me, it's very amazing how sound is so visually represented in software (NLEs). In "the room" you never see the sound being played out, but the experts make it so subconscious that you love to hear it.
amazing tutorial thanks so much, always wanted such a good 5.1 explanation like this, one question what do you use for drawing those red demonstration lines?
When talking about reverb he says you don't want dialogue in the centre, does he mean dont put reverb on the dialogue in the centre, as the sole purpose for the centre speaker is to have the dialogue.
Though I understood the technology probably about 0.01% , but I liked the way you can play with the sound placing and create directional audio, pretty interesting stuff.
You can only stream from vimeo. But if you want to own the product (and all the other Cinema Sound products) on a hard drive we have that at the cinema sound store.
3:56 - so should dialogue stereo reverb be sent to the left and right speakers? I get that the mono dialogue and mono reverb goes to center. But if you separate the ambience from dialogue entirely, would you still send some dialogue reverb to left and right? How about lfe?
This tutorial was exceptional, thank you, really helped me out with mixing my first feature film 😁 I do have one question about the Parametric EQ you used in the Master Bus, how did you get the 48Hz cut off only effecting the LFE channel and not the rest if the audio channels? :) If anyone has an answer, that would be awesome and greatly appreciated, thank you 😊
@Cinema_Sound Hi Mark, thanks for all of the work that you do for us out here. Do you know of any certified or properly recorded audio for testing/setting a 5.1 system? Or, could you make one? I have a Denon with the auto EQ, but I rarely like it's settings. Please give us help in this area. Thanks!
Well, the best way to do that testing is with tones. We go over that in depth in the "workspace" chapters of the Cinema Sound education. bit.ly/buycinemasound Thanks for reaching out!
@@cinema_sound5003 Great instruction and info. I am learning a great deal about sound systems. However, I likely should have mentioned that I am trying desperately to tune my home theater to get it set to reproduce the mix just as each sound mix producer had recorded it. Surely thousands of others are working hard to get that nominal set-up also.
I learned quite abit from this! Thanks! Two questions; how do you go about mixing the dialog in the beginning, are you doing this in waeform view? (for example compression, limiter, eq, denoise)? The problem i find with Audition is that this would be irreversable after applying all the effects. Also second question, when mixing like this, are you constantly checking your LUFS or are you mixing until it sounds good, then at the end just push the master down to meet up with the desired LUFS?
This is a great question which takes a while to answer. We take care of ALL of this in the cinema sound education here in the "Mix" volume bit.y/buycinemasound
Hello Mark. I find this video super impressive. Watched it like 3 times... Two Questions Sir. 1. What did you say is the name of the plug-in used for monitoring the 5.1 Surround sound through headphones ? Is it Binary something... I didn't really get what you called the special monitoring plugin... 2. I observed that your Master output Bus is a Stereo Channel. Just like a project I recently mixed, I created the session routing out of a Stereo Master output Bus but then during the mix I thought I should do some Surround mix with the music in the Project. So I added a 5.1 Bus channel & routed all the music tracks to it. Now, Is it ok to do a 5.1 Surround mix while the Master output Bus is Stereo? Will really be happy to receive a feedback from you Sir.

We go into where to put reverbs extensively in the Cinema Sound education.
