    Very useful man, the fact that you explain what each line and flag does is great. I've been trying to fix my passthrough for weeks now and I just find find tutorials with "put this there.. create this file here..." and no explanation on what's going on.
    Thanks for it and keep like that!

    I have been trying to passthrough a GPU on a x58 p6t deluxe with a xeon for over a year without any success with couple of custom mb bioses because the dmar tables on this asus mb are broken and not fully supporting vt-d and countless hours of plowing through old forums seeking a solution. Following every step of this video, now it works without a single problem with no performance hit when gaming for over a month. Thank you for this video!!

      I'm glad you finally got it working.
      I have definitely went the "plowing through old forums" route until my eyes were bleeding, and it feels like the clouds have parted when it finally works.
      Cheers

      Ha! I have the same motherboard and had the same issues.
      I then misread another guide that suggested my processor (an X5670) wouldn't support passthrough anyway.
      Was right about to give up on Proxmox and just move over to an Ubuntu server on bare metal. This saved my setup!

    Important to note that this graphics card is reserved for use by the VM you’re passing it to. Another VM will need another graphics card passed to it. A single graphics card can’t shared across multiple VM’s.

    • @greenprotag
      @greenprotag ปีที่แล้ว

      Passthrough is 1 to 1 yes, but vGPU DOES work in proxmox allowing you to share a single GPU to multiple VMs

      @@greenprotag can a plex running inside an lxc hardware transcode using a vGPU?

    • @greenprotag
      @greenprotag หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mg3299 IXC hardware transcode?
      Sorry I am not familiar with "IXC" in terms of an abbreviation and I am not getting hits on searches.
      Hardware transcoding relies on encoding hardware.
      Intel integrated GPUs and Nvidia GPUs encode fairly well and NOW you can buy something like a P400/P600 quadro or even a new Arc A310 for fairly cheap and get fantastic performance (the Arc 310 also has AV1).
      You CAN use vGPU to split a card and you CAN use this process to use a VM for transcode I believe. However I would recommend you consider a separate cheap card to fully dedicate to your transcoding especially if you have a spare PCIE x4/x8/ or x16 slot.

    • @greenprotag
      @greenprotag หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the Scenario that you use vGPU to split a card and you dedicate a profile to a VM for transcode, MAKE SURE your GPU has robust encoding. The GP104 pascal chipset DOES have dual encoders and I believe the GTX1070-1080 or Tesla P4 are good choices for most basic h.264/265 encoding.

    • @greenprotag
      @greenprotag หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would still recommend a separate dedicated card for transcode. Like a quadro P400/P600 or a Tesla P4... Ideally in fact an Arc A310 because of AV1

    I own a Intel NUC NUC6CAYH and wanted to passthrough the on board graphics (Intel HD 500) but I can't get it work and don't have any idea why. All videos show the passthrough of a nvidia or AMD graphics but no one tried a onboard one. Should I make things different or is it just impossible on my system to get it done? One time I were lucky and got a pic in my TV (HDMI) with any Linux distribution but after seconds I got a complete hang and that's all. On a Windows VM I had no luck at all. Can you please help me? I want to use my HDMI with sound for playing videos beside my home assistant and other VMs.

    Then i remove pci device from "hardware" and start the VM and all works fine, just no GPU passthrough

    Thanks for your video. I followed your instructions in a Asus G752VS Laptop with no luck, It always shows the Error 43 in the Windows VM. It seems that the laptops are very tricky to achieve the passthrough stuff. I also followed the instructions regarding doing it in containers and it worked but Windows cannot run inside a container. Do you have any idea about an extra step to do so mobile GPUs can be used with passthrough?, I'm using 5.15.74-1-pve.

    Nice Tutorial by the way. As mentioned by others this was one of the only ones which was really helpful. What I still somehow dont get it the use of a HDMI dummy. What is it for? I want to boot my VM on start and have it on my 32" Screen. Can I do this some how? Is the HDMI Dummy for this or is it doing the complete opposit?

    • @LoResDIY

      So gpu's will not work unless they believe e they are hooked up to a monitor. I believe if you do not use the dummy hdmi and attach a monitor or TV it should work.

Installed the EVGA RTX 3050 in the only PCIe-x16 slot, added the power cable, and suddenly I don't have a link on ethernet. Tried using the (card attached) monitor to do the grub and modules edits, nothing helped. Unplugged the power cable from the video card, and I get network back (and have to swap the monitor to on-board to see the terminal). Any suggestions where to look for help? Thanks!

Even tried in different VM software, different OS's etc. No chance. Windows for example always brings up the error 43. No matter what workaround I use. Anyone Ideas? I am in Switzerland, so if someone is from around here and can help...I owe you a bottle of single malt. :-)

      Try this and see if it helps
      nano /etc/default/grub
      Change this line from
      GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
      to
      GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet intel_iommu=on iommu=pt pcie_acs_override=downstream,multifunction nofb nomodeset video=vesafb:off,efifb:off"

      You need to get that from the VM before you set the GPU passthrough.

    OMG! I finally was able to passthrough my rtx 2060 super to my windows vm in Proxmox thanks to your tutorial! Thank you sooo much! Out of all the tutorials on TH-cam. Yours, was the best one, and the only one on Proxmox 7.0. I'm on 7.1 and it works. I'm able to remote desktop and it's really cool. However, I also have my rtx 2060 super connected to my 50 inch LG via HDMI cable, which is how I intended to use my HPZ620 to game, but no signal comes out of there. Only in remote desktop. how can I output to my TV as well? Show me this power.
    My HpZ620, doesn't have any onboard video. Only my RTX 2060 Super. Does this matter?

      Hi Eric. You say you have your rtx 2060 connectged to your 50" LG. How did you make it? I mean...I might be totally wrong but in my ideal world I would be able to boot my Win11 VM on start and have it directly on my 32" HP Monitor. Do I have to make specific adjustments to the VM settings?

      Try not selecting the gpu as the primary gpu. Then see if you can access the vm with you tv. If it works I would imagine you will need to passthrough a keyboard and mouse.

    Here's one of the commands I couldn't find.
    echo "options vfio_iommu_type1 allow_unsafe_interrupts=1" > /etc/modprobe.d/iommu_unsafe_interrupts.conf
