Yeah I’ve never truly appreciated the course management part. No big balls ego, just where do I increase my chances and how do I score. It takes balls to play this strategically.
I see how you emphasized avoiding trouble off the tee. Even when tee shots were in the rough, they were manageable 2nd shots. The few times you didn’t have manageable shots, you mentally went to “birthday hole” mindset and forgave yourself immediately! That is so important. It’s my biggest mental weakness. I beat myself up and it just starts to manifest more of what I want to avoid.
Hi playa, I have a tough course coming up tomorrow and this video has given me the inspiration to go at it ego free and play the course instead of letting the course play me. Thank you for this content, it helps the regular Joes like me so much! Edit: Shot a 4 over 76!!! Thank you sire, your ways work.
As Ghandi said “don’t get angry, get up and down”. Reminds me of what my friend said when we leave a birdie putt short. “You know what Mother Theresa says? Never leave a birdie putt short”
Great video! Love the “throwback” of the 6-6-6 system. I have adopted this in my game and mindset. It’s science. It works! Here it seems I can reach my 75 goal by making it. 7-7-4 system, hmmm…
Such an awesome round. Funny thing is that from the get go your body language and tone in your voice said everything about how you wanted to play thsi course. My takeaway from it was "no stupid shots and no hero shot". Whaddascore. I will go of for a round in a few moments and feel very motivated. Thank you Sir. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Thank you for talking and teaching through real golf. I watch your vids and think to myself, "Damn, Matty hits it to the right and left all the time...just like I do!"
I got 13 money counts, and I’m absolutely looking forward to seeing you grace our home turf in the next few videos! Took a road trip with the boyfriends down the west coast of Scotland and played a lot of links golf, and you’re 100% right that you’ll be doing a lot of putting off the green! However, I also found that Eric’s lesson for B-Dog a couple of months ago was an underrated gem and my new go to chipping technique, and it works wonders off our baked links turf - stand closer, open the face, only the toe touching the turf and make a putter swing. Super easy to loft the ball up, and since it’s so far off the toe even the worst blades don’t go far past pin-high! Looking forward to having you in the homeland, busy with work so struggling to play at the moment but let us know if you’re having some coffees while you’re here and we can grab one!
Those graphics/pictures you would put on screen to explain your shot or your point you were making were really useful. I never realized I was such a visual learner and I have never seen anyone do that before. Really good work.
Excellent content playa, I dont usually comment but I really enjoyed this video because it puts into play a lot of your thoughts on the breaking 90 plans of yours. Having a 200 yard club you can rely on off the tee being an example. I find it hard to trust the system but after watching a 75 I'm definitely more confident. It just shows where you can get to without the driver. I also like the analogy we are scrambling players as we do miss the greens. The downhill lie on a firm surface tip is golden where you used the putter. The illustration showing the club bounce off the floor and you thinning it was also insightful from a tight lie. The end summed it up where you basically saying we just need to think. Fantastic video which showcases you using the many tips you give us and come away with a 75 in the wind.
And for sure, scrambling all day long - on an avrage day around the world, any handicap above 9 is probably averaging 3 greens per round big dog, and that's a good day
Matt. I must admit something. I’ve seen your videos in passing over the last few years and I didn’t want to like you. You play too smart and wear funny hats. But I’m a changed man. I can’t stop watching your videos. I’ve adapted your mindset and it has drastically improved my game. Keep on keepin on playa. Great vid.
Well done Matt, really enjoyable watching you plan around the links and posting a real nice score! Counted 13 'money' total ... 3 instances with a cheeky double money shout as well 😎
Hey Matt, heard you talking about ventus. Just bought a TSR 3 with 6x ventus Red, it completely is overwhelming, i gained 40yards of distance. These shafts are pure gold !!! I tried the black (i have a 110mph club speed) and could barely hit it any higher than 8 yards !
I love the links-woods hybrid courses out here in the PNW U.S. The Home Course is one of my favorites out here that doesn’t make your wallet feel too much thinner when you’re done compared to Chambers or Washington National.
Great video Matt. The effort you put in never goes unnoticed with the little diagrams about the lie etc. I scored 80 the other day. Getting closer! Some great strategies here to help me break it! 👍🏻
Enjoyed the video. It's nice to see a strategy for playing an unfamiliar course. I play the same course every day, so there's no way my home course handicap would hold up on a strange course that I don't know like the back of my hand. I counted 11 Moneys out of Matty Boom Boom's mouth, and one "Money" written on the screen. I used a piece of paper, and everything!
I counted 13 times! Awesome golf, love seeing the links. I play in the States and after developing a miss to the right with my irons this video was awesome to see you tee the ball up on your iron shots and draw the ball back towards you.
Wow! Outstanding green side play and strategy prior to every hole. But the best thing you did was not let that double bogey get in your head. Royal Lytham and Pebble Beach, your big time Baus. Onward and upward!
Fantastic to see you here in the UK at last bro! Fantastic show of putting prowess there, bravo 👏👏👏 Will you be in attendance at Hoylake? I'll keep an eye out for the hat 😉
Also, I think your eggs shirt should be remade to include ham. I think it would be a great shirt for partners in a tournament where you have to "ham and egg" it
I have the Rogue LS Max (not triple diamond) with the Ventus Black 7X shaft. It is a little temperamental at times, but it smashes the ball when I hit it well. Very little wild dispersion and very low spin. I think I would like the blue or TR better because it has a little too low of flight with the LS head and black shaft. You won't be disappointed though.
great round - love watching your golf vid's. I learn a lot about strategy and it helps my own game. If you like links golf, come out to Bandon Dunes Golf in Oregon. Our annual trip will have an open spot this Jan'2024.
Matty. #1, your channel is entertaining. #2, you teach/show how to play & enjoy golf. Technique on how to hit the ball is irrelevant. It's how to score using strategy. #3, your instruction if you will, led me to my career best round this summer of 73 at my home course. Waddaaplayaa.
That was some outstanding scrambling - nice work. That said, with your 4/5/6 iron and 5w tee shots, I think there were three that ended up in fairway bunkers and only three (or four?) fairways hit (correct me if I'm wrong.) I'd be very curious to see what things would've looked like if you had hit driver (even given the fact that you had low confidence in driver at this time.) You had many long approaches into greens which, in turn, forced you to scramble for up-n-downs quite a bit. Choosing between a 6-iron from the rough or a 9-iron from the rough for an approach shot, I think it's a pretty easy call. Still, a very solid round.
can't see where the driver lands and it's blind behind the bunkers so if i hit driver, i anticipate spending forever looking for balls. which i HATE doing. so driver would come out on the 2nd playing of this course. And I would move back to the red tees (2nd from the back) I don't play bucket list courses from the back tees and I play them for a good score. If I could do them 3-4 times, we would go low As I said a few times in the round, I thought about and accepted that my strategy today would require mid range tee shots, long approach shots, and lots of putting and scrambling. That was the point - that you can play a course any way you like, as long as you accept and commit to the plan for the whole round and don't FOMO and regret it. At least 4 of the opening 9 were along a OB fence on the right - no driver for sure - especially with a high spinning head into the win - a little fade turns into a slice. Hole 6 no idea what was ahead of us, semi blind. Hole 8 potentially smash it left yes but I don't hole what is left of left. Hole 11 nice driving hole. Hole 13 don't need it Hole 14 could be driver hole now that I know what's up there. Hole 16 definite now that I know the hole - it's all semi blind with subtle rises. But I would need to play red or back tees to be honest for a driver - the greens are not long enough to pump drivers confidently at all, depsite rating of 72.5 140 or something
Let's see how it goes in scotland. I will hit driver more but just HATE looking for balls in the rough especially on new courses. But I have 20-30 rounds there in a month so I should gt better
