Its like fighting her with her own weapon…although Sae‘s style was effective towards Nagisa, it was also effective enough against herself. So couldnt Nagisa say, that he won, as soon as he touched her, since „protecting“ her was also the whole time, so it would be possible if he said that he won. I know they weren’t in a judo-match, but if ur „attecked“ there isn’t something like „wait, we haven started the match“. So technically, he would’ve won as soon as he touched her chin…

I read another version of this story, the main difference being that the FMC's father there died soon after making the promise with the MC. I believe the promise's weight in that story was greater than here, so the MC's stubbornness about maintaining the promise there made sense. Here, it just feels pointless.
