The Fascinating Hidden Language of Plants | SLICE SCIENCE | FULL DOCUMENTARY

  • Today’s science is revealing astonishing characteristics of our green neighbours. Plants can move, smell, listen, speak and taste; in one word, they communicate. They even seem to appreciate music.
    Plants have no brain, no nervous system, thus distinguishing themselves from animals. Nevertheless, they are continuously interacting with their environment, and science has proven that some can even recognise members of the same family.
    The lords of green react to signals by modifying their metabolism or their organogenesis (how they grow). They communicate with each other, send and receive warning signals, and can even “speak” and ally with animals to fight their enemies. Others have evolved to imitate the looks and smells of a female insect; thus dispersing their pollen via the attracted male.
    If a very simple plant has 600 different kinds of receptors for detecting odours and tastes in the environment, humans have fewer than 20! Signals that plants are using to talk to each other are biochemically very similar to the hormones we have in our bodies. Plants “talk”!

    Plants aren't hiding from us ..... We've just lost our ability to hear, see, and understand. I'm happy to see science finally beginning to rediscover this old knowledge.

      Part of why it's not viral is the unscientific language used, especially by the dimbulb narrator. She probably didn't writebit, but whomever did write it did a huge disservice to these scientists. And a lot of info is left out. A great many statements are made that are never explained, so there is a large amount of missing info.

    The most astonishing news I once heard that trees recognize a human who had cut a branch and a human who had sung a nice song when these people returned 10 years to the same place. The electric instrument remarked the specific different waves from the tree when these people had returned. How did this tree recognize the good and the bad fellow ?

    So one thing i fear. Is if we start using the sounds/scents to protect the plants. If we copy them too well, and overdo it, then insects will evolve to ignore the plant’s communication. And if they evolve too quickly, then we will ruin the plants ability to use some of their most valuable tools. It could be worse than overusing antibiotics

      Yes, I think hands off is the best policy. We interfere to often and to much with Nature....who knows beyond our ability what's needed and necessary. Much love and Namaste'

    Yearss ago my guru said that it was as morally wrong to kill and eat a cabbage as to kill and eat a human because they are both sentient beings so when choosing a diet one should use health as a criteria rather than morals.

    • @gauriblomeyer1835
      @gauriblomeyer1835 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This cannot be true. No wise Guru will say that it is wrong to eat vegetable because vegetables are killed. Our life depends on it. Before eating our food we make a prayer and thank the Divine for giving us the food to continue to live.

    • @cattymajiv

      @cattymajiv it doesn't matter what you eat as long as it promotes your health and not just your egotistical feelings.

      The point stands, that eating any living thing is still cruel. It's not just about the cruelty of killing animals for meat, as most vegetarian propagandists seem to want to say.
