I grew up around the corner from these guys. I'd walk to elementary school with my sister and cousins and see them Riding their horses or Lancaster Ave. Everyone respected them no matter how weird it seemed, it was pretty normal to us.
Atleast Caleb was getting more roles because Finn and Bobbi are basically everywhere. I didn’t want him and the others do just be stuck being known for one role and they don’t branch off.
I enjoyed this movie, the father had to learn to become a father is one of the reasons his presence was lacking. Other men help in Cole's development keeping with the African proverb it takes a village to raise a child. For example, the father was informed that his son was coming to stay with him, the father did not welcome his son at his home, the son had to find his father.
My problem with the movie is that they painted the sherif as cruel for shutting down the stable, when they clearly show him warning the crew to clean up their stables, and to get rid of the dead horse. The crew just laughed and ignored him. It wasn’t that crazy of a request to keep the stables clean. Idk if that’s what happened in real life, but it looked odd in the film.
He wasn't painted as cruel. From the beginning of the movie the viewer is shown that he tried to tell them what was going to happen and encourages them to make moves and all they do is sit around and talk shit. Then the inevitable happens and it's sad but it was a long time coming. At no point was the cop the bad guy. He stayed looking out for them.
This was very enjoyable, how else do you push new talent to the front if you don't piggyback off bigger names, this was a coming out role for the kid from the Stranger Things and I believe he did an exceptional job
@@Csmith_theRuler They have a Atlanta review(Teddy Perkins) but they been sleep on Snowfall thou. Hopefully @DoubleToasted reads the comment section and do a review🤞🏾
This film hits home more to someone like me who lives IN Philadelphia, knowing that such a thing like stables and horses are more or less right around the corner from you. Them having the real life Fletcher street riders in the movie like Korey said, really added an extra layer of authenticity to it. I’d give it a mid to high Matinee.
Love you guys so much you deserve to be much bigger on youtube. I discovered you when I was looking for a review of soul that wasn't written by a white reviewer. Now I watch everything you drop!!
If they can barely pay rent then how the hell do they feed the horses? The amount of food a creature need to sustain itself is proportionate to the size of its body and horses are HUGE creatures. Keeping a horse fed every day could literally eat you out of your home. It is nice that this movie shines a light on these riders and their stories (though it should have been a documentary) but it might also bring this to attention of some animal activists groups.
Sorry it’s a year later but Did you watch the movie? He literally says to his dad, the horses eat better than him.. cause they did. They put everything to the horses
One of my favorite Spill reviews is “Buck” where “Leon” admits his hate of horses and cowboys. So I think it’s bit more funny Martin is all cowboyed up for this review
16:00 you speak “they take our history, like cowboy and make us hate it...corny, etc” I paraphrase here. I completely agree same as with the banjo ( origin Africa) and things like that. So glad these things are being reclaimed. I just discovered the band Carolina Chocolate Drops. The do jug band music, bluegrass, mountain music etc. , with SOUL ! They take a lot from us but They can’t fake the funk.!
I live in Philadelphia and did a review on this also. These people take the horses thru parks and all kinds of trails, the movie does not show that so I can see why they are saying this stuff. It gives a vague understanding of All they do bcuz of Time possibly, but the gist of it is Philly as we have a History of, came and broke it up on BS accusations. It's not the first time. Like Black Wallstreet, 1st the accusations, then the cops are sent in, then they burn it down and say it was for the good. But still they ride on so thank God for that-
Cowboying and herding was actually started in Mexico too. Once Americans started heading farther South, they saw what the Mexicans where doing and mimicked it.
Saw this a few weeks back and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I was expecting some kind of B action movie where Idris Elba rides around fighting crime from horseback in a modern city. What I got was a coming of age story and a docudrama about horse owners in Philidelphia. Predictable in parts, but no less enjoyable because of that. All this to say, High Matinee.
listennn I live in Philly, and I know where Fletcher street is, those horses are anorexic and sad. one time I drove by and saw a chicken in the street eating out of a hot cheetos bag. the urban cowboy culture just isn't sustainable.
They should set up a gofundme so they can have a proper place for the animals. The last thing you want is to take the animals away. I would donate in a second!
nothing is as mindless as thinking that tropes = bad. that's like saying ketchup = bad. it's narrative shorthand. it's all about how you use tropes not whether or not there's a certain number of them in your story.
Clichéd and weak on narrative, but it wasn't about slavery or revel in Black suffering, so that's already a huge plus. The real riders in the film were much better than the real nomads in Nomadland, especially Jamil Prattis and Jharrel Jerome was terrific, as usual.
Martin looks so good as a cowboy.
Well he is from Texas....
Martin lookin fair smooth
Fr this look is WORKING for him

That's really dope. Glad you all respect them
I also grew up in West Philly back then. No big deal to see the cowboys around the neighborhood 🤷🏾♂️
From G-Town. I remember going to West Philly especially near the ZOO seeing them with their horses back in the day. A lot of times near Girard ave.
This is fascinating stuff y’all revealing! I’m from Chicago and this is so cool to find out!
Didnt think that happen anywhere else but Texas lol
The return of Sheriff Martin Thomas defender of the innocent master of puns.
The biggest punster in Austin.
Yehaw
The Punslinger
The PUNisher or naw?

@@CLDJ227 Nah Miles Brown is perfect for Miles Morales. I really cant see anyone else in that role if they do it within the next few years.

That Sergio Leone theme Martin sings is too good- the Man has layers.

Yeah that stable (In the movie) looked terrible. So i understand shutting them down
Martin just got back from Reno after shooting a man and watching him die...of that toasty goodness.
I'm not gonna lie Martin looks good in that hat
There are Cowboys here in New Orleans and the horses are well taken care of and they ride their horses on the neutral grounds for miles and miles!!!
We have some black folks here in Houston on the North side theyve been riding horses out there aas long as I've been around there
Thats like 20+ yrs
Greetings from Houston
There's a lot of groups in Houston who do it. My neighbor is part of one.
And the lone ranger was based on the story of bass Reeves

Ok Martin aka Josey Wales. Korey you took the words right out of my mouth would you like some Sarsaparilla partner 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Goodwin good to see ya! Let's get him and Girts back on here for a small reunion.
Do we know what he’s been up to these days?
@@Ishma3l Girts has been showing Korey bad movies from time to time, and I'm not sure about Goodwin other than he has a boyfriend now.
Still wondering why we haven’t got a “SnowFall” review and a “Bad Trip” review 🤷🏾♂️
Snowfall is great
Best part of Bad Trip was when Andre was in the mall, and the guy says "get the fuck away from me" while he tried to kick him lol
They don’t watch black shows. Its the same reason you never see Power, Atlanta, or other black sitcoms.

Soooo good to see Corey Goodwin again.
Posse (1993)
Awesome black cowboy film
Thanks
I'm from that Neighborhood, people don't have horses in their houses. Lol
Martin do look sexy with that Cowboy hat! Mrs. Martin a lucky woman! I love a Texas Cowboy
Martin could make a cameo in Yellowstone
Martin Isley with that beard lol
Martin Isley and Ron are family....Didn’t you know.....lol
Chris Herman and Korey Goodwin. Good times indeed
Martin looks like he been hanging out at the Bill Pickett Rodeo! The movie was adapted from the book "Ghetto Cowboy".

Sheriff Martin and his posse.
