- The openSUSE Project has released the latest version of openSUSE Leap 15.6. This is the last currently planned release in the Leap 15 series. What makes this version special, why it might even be considered a grand finale, and what the future holds for Leap users - that's what we'll be discussing now. Enjoy!

Always love openSUSE. Been running 15.6 since it was alpha and it's great. Whether it's Leap or Tumbleweed, love Enlightenment, icewm, Sway and Lxqt 2.0 desktops. Many options to match equipment. I share your concerns with ALP but Micro has been solid and if the beautiful, elegant, cutting edge technology of Aeon is any indication, it gives me optimism.
Let's wait and see what happens. Leap users can switch to Tumbleweed or Slowroll at any time if necessary.
I run Tumbleweed on the desktop and leap on servers. I am looking forward to the addition of Cockpit in 15.6! I would love.ro.know.more.about ALP. I am a bit out of the loop there. Thanks!
I'm considering swapping from Tumbleweed, right now I can't log off, reboot or shutdown properly from KDE and need to use a sudo command. Leap packages are a bit older but I don't mind using Flatpak or Distrobox for anything that I want to be more up to date. The only concern is how openSUSE 16 will be like but I'm sure it'll be fine in the end. Flatpak not being configured for Flathub by default is a bit weird but it might make sense given corporations might want to run their own Flatpak repository (?).
A most helpful video. Thank you. As a leap 15.5 KDE user, I am a little wary of Leap 15.6 KDE but is supported until next December so I will install it. Still a little concerned about the upcoming 'alternatives'? to Leap. I welcome any comments please.
If I were you, I would stick with Leap 15.6 and wait until SUSE releases ALP. Then it should become clear in the course of 2025 how well openSUSE is progressing and how things will continue with Leap 16 or whether Leap 15.7 is still to come. So no stress. Just wait and see.
you should have the option of moving to ALP, Tumbleweed, or Slowroll. The latter two won't require a reinstall but ALP might.
@@jayarmstrongThanks Jayar. I have used openSUSE for years. I will wait to see how suitable the upcoming alternatives are.
Leap 16 is going to be both immutable and non-immutable.
I will use openSUSE when they put more effort into the desktop look.
You can't just put basic packages together and expect everyone to use it.
I like the web admin interface though!
I can only completely agree with you!!
What do you mean? Their desktops are quite polished.
@@folksurvival Yes but can they be a little special in openSUSE way so that it's not just default install?
For example ElementaryOS is very well designed visual product. I'm not saying
it should be like Elementary but somewhere between that and deepin.
@@amigaworkbench720 "Yes but can they be a little special in openSUSE way so that it's not just default install?"
They are. They don't give you the stock desktop from upstream like you get on Arch or Debian, they give you an openSUSE themed desktop along with some openSUSE tools etc.
@amigaworkbench720 but elementary os also has a pretty much default install? They just use a more niche desktop environment so it feels more unique
