In the novel, Ish is a student doing research for his doctorate in the mountains. He deliberately isolates himself which is easy in the novel since it was written in 1949. He's wrapping up his research after several weeks and thinks with amusement that by not listening to the radio, anything could have happened. Then the rattlesnake hits so his time is extended which makes more sense that a plague has wiped out humanity. When he drives back home and learns what happened, he wonders about what to do and becomes curious about what the world looks like without people. He drives from California to New York, meets a few people whom he doesn't want to join . Okay, I won't give spoilers.
Yes, 1949 does make isolation easier. Interesting. The book sounds good. Sounds like it's slightly different than the series. After a season or 2 of this tv series, I'll pick up the book. It will give a better insight into what he is thinking during the times when he is alone.
There is another show that is a lot like this show its called Survivors its a British TV show. There is the 1970's version and the 2008 version. I believe it was canceled in the first season but a lot of fans wanted a second season so it came back in 2010. I just looked this up as I wrote this comment. I think there was also a fan novel or a fan film that was made also with two of the actors from the 2008 version of the show. I think it was with actress Julie Graham and actor Paterson Joseph. Also I just looked up it again and there is a 2015 movie. I think the actress Julie Graham was a little girl in the 1970's version and there was two outbreaks. There is also a Zombie TV show based on the TV show Big House called Dead Set. It really feels like is part of the world 28 Days Later.
I loved the British Survivors show. The first season was so good. The last season had a lot of problems though. I never heard of Dead Set. I'll look it up. I do watch my share of zombue stuff :)
Ok...you missed a LOT of dumb stuff..... 1. Drops his phone AT HIS FEET, doesn't even TRY to pick it back up?🤔 2. Gathers "supplies" at store. Paper towels, a shot gun and a pistol. Parks a THOUSAND YARDS AWAY from the entrance? Make that make sense...please!🙄 3. Military grade firearms laying EVERYWHERE and he gets a shotgun leaving the military stuff alone...ooooohhhh...k. 🤪 4. Finds dog, travels with him all day. NEVER FEEDS the poor thing!🙄 5. He gets to Vegas. He has power, hot showers, flush toilets and plenty of refrigerated food. LEAVES for NO REASON and goes to a library to get books on how to procure everything he HAD IN VEGAS!!! 6. Has the opportunity to have sex for maybe THE LAST TIME IN HIS LIFE and he brushes her off?!?!?!?!?😳 Make that make sense...please! 7. Stores EVERYWHERE with portable generators in them and this genius warms up a pop-tart with a BLOW TORCH?!?!?🤪. 8. Goes running...leave the dog home...um.....why? 9. Bounces a ball by himself...God FORBID he throws it for the DOG he has pretty much ignored. And after a day and a night and another day, the dog remains, as far as we can tell, unfed. So far, the main character is an idiot! 10. Where are all the bodies? EVERY-one died in their homes?!?!?!? Panic would have ensued and people would have died everywhere. 11. The air would be HEAVY with death stink.....
Read the book. I bet you will find it to be a more satisfying experience. Your comments could apply to many "disaster" movies - idiots doing idiotic things.
Great opoints. And I agree there were problems. I attribute them to setting up an apocalyptic story without getting bogged down. So i usually give those a pass. But I agree, a lot of issues. The streets should be filled with bodies and cars , why is the dog in the house waiting for him to come home etc... But I'm guessing they are trying to move past the set-up part of the story. Having said that, I am hoping for the best and that it won't turn into Apple's Invasion. I had hopes for that show. Some issues at the start that I ignored. But it has now evolved into the very first show I hate watch. LOL It started as a show with some issues but promise... to a show where the people are too stupid to live. I laugh at myself for watching it.
