  • This railfanning day is something I won't soon forget! Starting off with a nightmarish experience with nature, and only started getting good shots in the early afternoon...

At marker 16:06 if you pause it, you can see the number DTTX 766409 and just before it you can just make out the "A" and the 2 car is a TTX but there is a "C" marked, with the 3rd car marked "B" but what I find interesting, is the same number of DTTX 766409 at marker 16:09 it could be the same for that one particular consist, with the middle having a different brand on but as a draw car, hooking up to "A" and "B". Interesting. Anyway, that is it for me right now, thank you for sharing and please be safe out there, just remember nothing breaks on a train, except you if you're too close.

I used to work for the shunt truck company that sent the cans to a particular railcar. If you notice, the railcars have long numbers to them, but they are also marked A, B, C, D, and E for the 5 connected railcars or A, B, C, for the 3 connected rail cars and then you can have individual railcars. Every set will be marked with an A-Front or Rear and a B-Front or Rear. then the middle for the 5- 5-connected railcars, could be mixed up with C, D. E, or on the 3-connected consist, the C is in the middle. All individual railcars are still numbers but also have a letter to them in case later on they connect them up. As an example, at marker 1:48 you can see the lettering DTTX- and Numbers 751506, there would also be a size of a car, that can handle a sized container or can. although it is hard to see with all the moving at marker 2:07 you can just make out the e, so that would be a 5-connected consist. So at marker 2:09, that would be the last of the 5-connect consist and should be a Letter B and the number DTTX 751506. and they look like 40s for 40-foot cans. I need to go, and I will watch this again... the shift I was on was 3pm to midnight and for me, the train out of the Vaughan Yard is around 7:00pm to 7:15pm good night

Okay, I am back, as I had said before and as a reminder, at marker 3:50 you can see the 5-consist (My words for what they are called- it has been the better part of 11 years since I worked in Vaughan as a railcar container shunter) railcars. So at marker 3:51 that would have a letter either A or B then the middle cars of that consist. At marker 3:57 you would have the 5th railcar of that consist, marked as A or B. All the other letters would be C, D, E, in the middle and all mixed up, Then a 3-consist set again would be A or B leading or reversed with C in the middle. On the 20-footers, they would have 2-20-footers on the bottom, and the bigger 40s or 48s and the 53s on top. But, they would be separated with the larger cans on top of the 20s with 48s and 53s to allow the train to corner. As of now and the last time I heard, only Walmart and Canadian Tire have the bigger 60-footer containers. At marker 4:38 you have the start of a 3-consist setup.

Nice catches! The CP engine at 7:51 is 6307, a hunk of junk rebuilt from an SD60 (now an SD60-3). Also VIT can yield fantastic shots from McGillivray road, I recommend visiting it sometime.
