if y'all don't lemme know ur fav mio drops flavor i will literally never vlog again !!! *also what mistakes are you making that are urging you to a better place in life?
I don't know what mio drops are, so you can't punish me with no vlogs!!! The only one, I would call such a mistake, is working too much, especially when I was younger. It's never worth it! Don't listen if anyone is telling you otherwise, don't listen if you are thinking it for yourself.
@@ameliareads589hahaha do not worry I have some vlogs coming in soooooon. and absolutely agree!!! I’m in this mode right now where I am trying not to bring work home!! Work is work and when I’m home, I’ll do what I wish!
Nathan I am just f*cking blown away by you! I tried to write here something more sophisticated about how inspiring you are and what an incredible presence you are online, but I just couldn't get it out. So in short, thank you for sharing your worlds with us and aligning yourself close to the line of life itself. Huge hugs.
“i don’t know if cusk is trying to protect herself or shield us for something” oooooh this is so true. i think a lot of her recent work deals with her protecting herself because of how much backlash aftermath received 🤨
i just reread the second section before watching this and agree that it felt like she was giving us a bit of a break there. i think it’s my favorite section of the book but time will tell as i progress through my reread. going to return to this vid as i make my way through the book but lovinggggg this so far!!
Upon further reflection, the ending of The Midwife is so BRUTAL! I think i love all the parts equally different because, in essence, they do all work as stand alone pieces, but when in conversation with each other, they speak volumes in the same running themes. They just feel like endless circles, as if she has recounted the battle of the sexes since the beginning of time! Re: Backlash for Aftermath - I was reading up on this as I was doing my Cusk research and it ASTOUNDS me that women attacked her for being so brutally honest about her thoughts on divorce and children. It makes me think how press and public reacted to any of Ernaux’s work. Can’t wait for your thoughts on the book! It’s one I’ll keep thinking about for all of 2024 ✨🧠
Omggg i wouldve loved this vlog just for the SPRESSY MARTINI 🖤 but the shooting/editing just gets better and better!!!!! One man show elevating booktube 🙌🏻
stunning visuals. engaging thoughts. gorgeous as per. this is the kind of vlog everyone wishes they were making (its me, i'm everyone lol). i can't wait to read parade!!! x
Stunning. I’m in love with the direction you’re taking your vlogs. Cinematic, stylish. Love love love ❤ exciting that you may have already clocked your favorite for the year!!
ahhh truly means a lot! i think i’m content with the direction i’m headed towards. and yes! the top 10 list is slowly but surely coming along !! have you found a fav for 2024 yet? :)
Omg, I didn’t expect to see Cari! What an adorable crossover. I was sent by Renee and am happy to be here. I'm not sure it would be wise for me to start my Rachel Cusk journey with Parade, though. Great vlog and observations😊
Really enjoyed your take on Parade! I've been wrestling with it for a few weeks now and it's good to know I'm not alone in having found it somewhat impenetrable. I agree with you about the binary of men vs women, it's a very dark comment on artists and their families. Cusk and Heti are friends (I heard that in an interview somewhere) and they are both such exciting thinkers and writers.
i was actually surprised by how dark her commentary was on art and family, if it’s feasible to be an artist while raising children. ahhh would love to know the source if you have it on Heti and Cusk as friends! what Heti have you read? :)
@@nathansnook I found the source for you (was easier than I thought) it's her interview on the "Intelligence Squared" channel here on TH-cam, from about a month ago. Around the 2:30 mark. I adore Heti and have read everything except for Ticknor. I'm working right now on a video about how Parade and Alphabetical Diaries are more poetry than prose ... so when I saw you speak about both in your video my ears pricked up hehe.
@@theonlyrealproperty2567 ahh thank you so much for find it for me! i'll save it for a rainy day! and it's so wonderful to hear about your Heti journey. i've yet to read Ticknor! but it's a bit difficult to find whenever i'm in a used bookstore... and yes! i found so many similarities in their work surrounding character and this aim to create a character-less book is interesting! especially for the novel!
Perfume and Pain was so iconic! I just about cried when I got the ARC approval for the book and I've been dying to hear other people talk about it. Anna Dorn's other book, Exalted, is also fantastic.
This vlog is so so beautifully done. 😊❤. I couldn’t agree more. Buddy read this book!!! Ah, watching this was like reliving the reading experience and that is SO good. I know, right? How does Cusk present characters were interested in and no almost nothing about!
Thanks again for this buddy read! I can’’t wait for you to pick up a physical copy of the book and highlight all the incredible lines! Layers and layers of such critical thoughts ✨🧠
Ahh thank you! And sadly, I don’t have a playlist! Most of the songs I use are copyright free from Epidemic Sound or anything I’ve found in public places. But the first song to intro the vlog is live recording of A Short Ride in a Fast Machine by John Adams!
haha thanks for watching! the film is First Love: The Litter on the Breeze! it was actually produced by Wong Kar Wai! but i do love Fallen Angels! it’s my fav from WKW ❣️
One of my favourite of your vlogs I think, and that is saying something cos I love them all... and nothing to do with those semi naked men in da club. Ooh, you're the second fabulous person to recommend Perfume and Pain, I'm gonna have to get it!
I love you, Nathan, but how quick do you think I can read, if you put some text on the screen? Apart from if you are reading the words to us, I have no chance to take in any of it. It's not only you who's guilty doing that, it's almost all booktubers (apart from the ones with any kind of disability), who put up any kind of text for not as long as the average reading time would require. And I've already read fourteen poetry collections this year, because I love poetry.
Sorry about this! I try to leave up all text for about 5 seconds! Will try to leave it up longer :) And LOVEEE that you’ve read so much poetry! I feel like I don’t see enough poetry on booktube 😭😭😭
I was wondering if I was ever going to see you with Cari! I was literally *thrown* into the infinite rabbit hole that is Booktube only recently *because of Cari*. I've been following her vlog for years and her other channel kept showing up, so I eventually gave in (I love it, it's actually a lot of fun to listen to her ramblings and rants about books I'll never read.) You and Modern Ajumma are my absolute favourites in very different genres, I'm currently on a binge (with Margorito whom you might know, or might like to discover-- she's french and you speak french if I understand correctly.) Love the way you talk about books and your vloging style, and experimentations with form
ahhh what a small world! we love Cari and Modern Ajumma! 💗 i’m actually unaware of Margoto! would love to know their handle properly! love upkeeping my knowledge and practice of French through vlogs 😭😭😭 thank you for sharing your experience with watching booktube! it’s such a wonderful space 📚🐛
