    With all the negative comments, it's obvious some people feel they are lacking a trophy. Thanks for the detailed video; it's great for those of us who are attempting the entire project for the first time.

    This clip is from a long running PBS show, Hometime I think it was called back in the 80s and 90s. They weren't a couple lol. Pre HGTV/DIY Network lol

    Crikey ! Dean Johnson and Robyn Hartl from Hometime. That takes me back a bit. They were on Uk Sky Tv in the early noughties. Robyn took over from Jo Ann Liebler who started another DIY programme.

    Polymer sand is much better for paver joints. Apply same way, sweep off excess and wet. Hardens like cement no worry of weeds, ants. Although I think this was shot in the mid 90s and I don't think that it was available then. Other wise video was spot on.

      DIY Landscaping YOU SHOULD ALWAYS COMPACT THE SHARP SAND BEFORE LAYING THE PAVERS OR IT WILL SINK OVER TIME AND BECOME UNEVEN.

    In 2017 no one should be using bedding sand to top off the joints. All those little pebbles scratch the hell out of your pavers you've just busted your body laying down. Polymeric sand or some other fine sand is ideal for this, unless you're using tumbled pavers that already have flaws to the top of them. Great video though. The important things are touched on that will allow the patio to last in shape for a long time.

    • @oddsandwindsocks5905

      Yes should remove them, other wise you can't whack blocks down after

    Man I wish I could find a video like this but how to deal with a slight slope. I'm not super handy but have enough common sense to get most tasks done but this is kind of a toughy for me. I have a 13 x 13 for area dug out but it's super deep like 6 inches on one side and like 2 on there other so the ground is even but now it will be like a 3 inch step down into the patio which is dumb. I'm afraid I'm going to have to back fill all the dirt back in and try something new

    • @allenpeyerl2095
      @allenpeyerl2095 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People do it both ways. We account for 3/8th inch of compaction. As long as you know how much compaction, I believe it is better to do afterwards to lock the pavers in place.

      When I did mine, I laid the soilder course all round in a lean mix then done herringbone design on the sand but left the blocks 10mm higher then whacked the lot after. Still great 24 year later.

    "Pick up any good size particles". C-mon man, we ain't building missiles here governor!! Clear out the stones, which I might add is exactly what you need to get done. Think the babe is throwing all the wood here. You guys need to stop practicing your production format and get a room out by the lake and break a few rules. Check in under the name of your choice and sweat not to leave until you can get another guest to call the cops on ya. Just a suggestion. You'll thank me on the ride home....

      Ryan, that's the problem here.. Unless that's a blitzkrieg-krew of 15 journeymen, all attending an "anger control & productivity in an overcrowded work-environment" seminar, LOL! That's not including the proper excavation needed, (@least6inches) for that 1500 squares to have been laid on a solid, monolithic, compacted & properly draining bed of base materials. How are the edges of that single day mega-slab, holding up after just 2 seasons? Similar to those Harbor Freight machining tools I imagine.

    • @mustangv823
      @mustangv823 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it was 4 + myself:i was the brain and my crew were my muscles..you will be surprise to see what a well cordinated crew can do!..it was actually done in 20 hours(i was being" technical")the drainage system was very simple and rapidly excavated and backfilled,i had some elements on my side so that contributed to the fast execution...you can spend a whole day just preping the base installing fabric,excavating,hauling gravel,compacting...when there's mud it becomes a mess and have to do extra work cleaning up etc.

    It was difficult to watch these two. They were as dynamic as the landscape in that neighborhood. It would have been great, and a complete roar if at the end, the guy would have said, "would you shut the f---k up for a sec and let me talk". It would have made this entire video a classic. Nobody would see it coming with these two,.... and the replays would have broke records!!!!...and you know he said that to her on the way home in that sweet stock 1500 pick-up... kidding guys..
