    I'll have a video covering possible graphics mods in the future. For now, here's how to get the most out of the game without any!

    I ALWAYS forget about the terrain tab. Oh my God this is an absolute game changer

    You can actually disable the character LOD manager setting in the Game Options launcher tab. I didn't know that for years and just made it a habit to uncheck the box every time I logged in because it would always reset, but after discovering I could just disable it altogether in the launcher, I got super excited.

    I forgot about the low res character models lol, will have to check when i log in. Agree with you about shadows and performance also, tends to be a bit of a resource hog.

    well how about you pull up a chair, grab the old easel, pick up that nice one inch brush, mix up some indian yellow and magenta red and paint that guy a friend? because everyone deserves a friend

    Hello there. A way to prevent SWG's dated client from modifying the graphic option sliders and settings is setting swgemu_machineoptions.iff to read only (a file located in your SWGEmu install directory), once you've setup everything and logged out.
    For whatever reason, the client sometimes reverts the graphics settings back to default whenever the game crashes, you modify some slider or exit the game from the logout screen, instead of logging out, then going back to login and then exiting.
    Keep in mind that by setting machineoptions to read only, if you modify another setting later on it won't be saved, you must allow the file to be writtable again before doing so.

    I know this video is over two years old but I actually looked up the option "Show Detail World Objects" and from what I understand it became obsolete shortly after the game was released. I'm pretty sure that it does nothing at all.
    Mystery solved I guess.

    Thank you so much for this video! I always wondered why the shadows always behaved so oddly, like shadows extending forever into the ground and popping in and out. I had no idea the game would not render offscreen objects, thus removing the shadows. Very informative, and doubled my framerate from the 60s to my target of 120 ultra wide! :)

    Great video!
    I do believe, if I remember correctly from when I use to play, detail world objects would be stuff like the insects flying around certain nests. I think the beetle nests to be specific

    • @Mobyus1
      @Mobyus1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope... doesn't seem to be it either. Just outside of Mos Eisley I found some of those flying beetles (I call them fart-bugs because they leave a little trail of gas behind them), as well as some non-interactive creatures hopping around in the sand. Turning the option on and off had absolutely no effect on them. Now, if you're thinking of something specifically around lairs, I'll keep my eyes open for that tomorrow.

    • @UGotTheFunk
      @UGotTheFunk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mobyus1 Damn, I really thought that was it sorry. Lol fart bugs fits perfectly. Going by the testing you've been doing, I wonder if the setting itself is working properly.

    "Show Detail World Objects': this option effects very little....a very tiny number of objects in game will not show without this option checked. Had the dev team had more time during beta, this option was intended to make the world more detailed for (at the time) high end machines. But the dev team asked for 6 more months and got ONE; they did not even have time to implement Jedi in a sane fashion. It is like farming a holocron to find an object that doesn't show without it. That said, idk why the devs on the emulator teams haven't made more use of it, nor why it wasn't used for updates and expansions....prob concentrating on more important things.

    Yeah I see this a lot too with the terrain settings, I don't know how people don't notice the drop in quality when they log back in. It's just one of those annoying things the client does. I can notice a bit of a difference having the game installed on an SSD as well, though it's not a night and day thing, just under certain circumstances, mostly when riding a swoop and streaming in areas.

    "Show Detail World Objects: displays world objects that don't have any function but simply add to the scenery, like pipes jutting from buildings."
