@@mattysouth1640 yes......absolutely! By looking at them, they would have been in their med 20s. If they were still alive today.....most of these women would be in there 70s now.
Was a newly-wed at this time. Always loved the parade. Was in it twice, once with "Pedal Pushers"💋(biking club) and with "Teen Time" (a charity to help teens). Loved to be involved in Klondike Days!
Bring back Klondike Days! Bring back Klondike Mike and Klondike Kate! Bring back MINISKIRTS!! Edmonton was such a fun, safe town in those days. Now it's just another big city with big city problems.
It was great, wasn't it ? You could meet people and party with them without trouble. At one time I thought I knew most everyone or at least one person from a group. Always running into people I knew or knew me. I did hear about someone who looked just like me but we never met. Now it's sooo different. You pass someone who's walking through your neighbourhood and say hello and they give you the side eye. What a shame. Cheers to the memories. ☮
Loved seeing Mayor Ivor Dent and his wife. She taught me Math at Bonnie Doon Composite in 1959-60. She was a new age woman who really encouraged the girls in her class to compete and consider Science careers!
I saw that parade, but from a different location. Thank you for posting it and if you have more like this I'd love to see them. Maybe it's just me, but women were soooo gorgeous back then. That blonde at the beginning and about 2 minutes into the film is stunning...
awww cute for me, i was a baby in the misericordia when this was going on. I always wanted to know what you all where doing while I was "getting-it-together" in Edmonton AB, SO dig more videos out for me. I want to know what the HECK was going on when I was born and still live in Edmonton AB. DONT BE LAZY convert those films! andddd thank you sooooo much :)
An actual theme what a concept! So remember the stores had their windows painted, raft races, bathtub races downtown, king of the klondike , panning for gold at the grounds and the grandstand shows at the race track.
But... but... where was Klondike Mike and his donkey? Bringing up the rear? Oh well, I know how short a roll of 16mm film is, thanks for the memories. :)
Someone who Knew her published comments quite sometime ago but it seems it was deleted. My question which sorry if it is obvious is WHERE are we talking about Canada?? Please someone clarify
Right at the start of the video and again at 2:00 minutes is Suzanne Pritchard the buxom beauty of mens magazines in the late 60's early 70's. Google that name and see what I am refering to!
THANK YOU CANADA, for Suzanne Pritchard! Also, before the corporate farming onslaught of cheap carbohydrates & faster food, hardly a fatty to be seen, also, it's 12 years since beach/surfer movies and the song 'Itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polkadot bikini'.
LOL hardly "skimpy" when you consider that women were wearing mini-skirts from the late 60s into the 70s, not to mention bikinis... The costumes are based on the Klondike ladies' CanCan attire they used to dance with on stage in the gambling halls during the Klondike gold rush.
What great memories of our town. Thank you vor posting this. It made my day and took me down memory lane. Thank you.
Loving the retro Edmonton. Please upload more!!
I was there in 1975.......really amazing. Greeting from Holland (The Netherlands)
I was there that year and attended the fair I still remember bits of this
1972...those hotties are now in their late 60's or 70's...(i might have a shot now...)
Great retro Edmonton memory..thanks!
I was thinking the same thing . good memories
@@DT-hi3dm So did I......
Who knows they might be dead now

This was awesome, this is over 50 years old. ❤❤❤
Ohh how I wish they would bring the Klondike theme back. "K-Days" is just an empty shell now....
We used to get the parade morning off work to watch this, and I remember watching the 1972 parade.
Was a newly-wed at this time. Always loved the parade. Was in it twice, once with "Pedal Pushers"💋(biking club) and with "Teen Time" (a charity to help teens). Loved to be involved in Klondike Days!

It definitely was more community minded back then. Could certainly use more of that today.
@@sadee1287 IT was probably all the miniskirts and swimsuits that provided all the community mindedness!
Bring back sexism? Bring back racism? Bring back homophobia? No thanks... Keep your hateful bigoted past to just that... The past.
Enough with the Dog Whistle, already. My ears are bleeding mate!

I went to BD as well. But didn't start there until '69.
I went there and graduated in '67
Miss B.D. Composite. Now it's Vimy Ridge Academy.
So many memories watching this video. I took my apprenticeship at Healy Ford. How things change over time.
Good to see Mayor Ivor Dent. He was my principal and teacher at Bennett in 63,64.
Thanks for posting these

The Alberta that my grandparents knew, that my parents where born into and now that I am looking back on. The late 60’s early 70’s.
An actual theme what a concept! So remember the stores had their windows painted, raft races, bathtub races downtown, king of the klondike , panning for gold at the grounds and the grandstand shows at the race track.
I think we need to bring Klondike Days back...
Being from Whitecourt, I had a good laugh at the caboose at 0:39!
Wow thats going back a few years ,,But The GOOD OLD DAYS!!!!
the women looked absolutely stunning back then...
Hell yeah, what I love to hear man
Natural beauty - nobody needed any stupid tattoos. Not many fat folks compared to today either.
Somewhere in that mess of people in front of Healy Ford was 12-year-old me selling Dickie Dee ice cream.
Considering Healy Ford was in this video in the background this is definitely Edmonton.
Was Healy in a different.......location, in 72? Today Healy Ford in on 106 and Jasper Avenue........corner block.
@@cassidypresley614 Healy Ford has been gone from Jasper Ave. for many years - it became Sherwood Ford!
Those floats are so much better then the shit they have now
your right on that.....!!
This takes me back and I also recognized "Uncle Dennis."
Ahh! Mayor Dent! His wife was my phased teacher in junior high. Nice lady.
I was there but i was only 1 year old. I wonder if any of the vehicles used in the parade are still sitting in some edmonton back alley garage.
I see the odd '72 around. When we have car shows, there's always a few.
was that used car salesman "Uncle Dennis" at about 8:20? If it was, i sure remember him!
"Does Uncle Dennis give the best deals in town? Yooouu betcha!"
Damn wish I was at THAT parade Suzanne was/IS a remarkable beauty
Is she sill around......some 40 years later.
I remember when the parade went down Jasper Avenue I still thought it was along Jasper then down 102nd Ave not 103rd Ave. in 1972.
That’s 103rd.
But... but... where was Klondike Mike and his donkey? Bringing up the rear? Oh well, I know how short a roll of 16mm film is, thanks for the memories. :)
Near the end it looked like Uncle Dennis from West Town Ford
Someone who Knew her published comments quite sometime ago but it seems it was deleted. My question which sorry if it is obvious is WHERE are we talking about Canada?? Please someone clarify
There's this wonderful thing called "Google Maps." Type in Edmonton, Canada and it will show you where the city is. Really!
Right at the start of the video and again at 2:00 minutes is Suzanne Pritchard the buxom beauty of mens magazines in the late 60's early 70's. Google that name and see what I am refering to!
Some gorgeous women in that parade. I would have been close to one year old at the time.
Fantastic. I had no idea there was a West Indian Society in Edmonton waaaay back then either.
4 Ft 8 inches of the finest example of female perfection ,will always be my go to fantasy gal
I meant to say physed teacher. Pipe bands and the horses were my favourite part of the parade. I did not like the seventies, though.
Looks like Jim Tustian work to me.
Hah, Northern Electric they make vacuum tubes!
+Fendernirvana They made most of the telecommunications equipment for 'edmonton telephones' and AGT (that's Telus, these days).
What's with the stupid sound effects? When I first heard that gunshot, I thought I was watching a film of the Kennedy assassination.
Its Edmonton so it was probably real !lol
It's in reference to the Klondike and the gold rush.
Ivor Dent. I DENT IFY (Campaign slogan)
There's sidewalks that haven't been fixed since then. OMG.
For 1972 I am so surprised they wore such skimpy outfits. who knew

The costumes are based on the Klondike ladies' CanCan attire they used to dance with on stage in the gambling halls during the Klondike gold rush.
Ah, the good old days. When women liked being women and looking attractive.
1972 - when strippers could get their own car in a family parade! I'm guessing the kids didn't know who Suzanne Pritchard was.
Women were actually quite sexy even back in the 70s.who would of known
I would, cuz I tapped 'em! Natural beauties who didn't need no stinkin' tattoos to adorn themselves.
0:00 Beautiful Suzanne Pritchard.
