Hey man, is the usage of math pretty heavy in your actual work as a data scientist? I'm trying to transition to tech from business healthcare. I majored in philosophy so I took a lot of logic but the logic is more of philosophic logic[reasoning/debate skill, true/false statements, construction/breaking down arguments, modal/proposition logic, higher order logic, etc.]. I'm not a fan of math but I love probabilities/ bayesian theroem/stats. Bayesian himself was actually a philosopher. I guess my option right now is either go into strictly coding entry level jobs which doesn't require math at all [if any] or Data Science.
Hey man, 60% of the math I use is basic stats like averages and summary statistics. Most of the rest is all related to probability and model performance measures, with a very little bit being related to the workings of machine learning algorithms. I wouldn't be too worried about it, definitely having advanced coding skills is more important
I have the same exact story. Lol 😂. My jaw dropped when you said actuarial science, because I thought of that too.
Thank you for sharing your story and advice!
Glad you enjoyed!
