The arrestors can fail. When one I had installed did, it was replaced w/a 2’ piece of 2” copper in the wall w/ 2 ball valves, one at the top and one at the bottom so it could be drained of any water accumulation that may have occurred over time. The ice maker was where its source was. It drove the lawn sprinkler backflow valve bananas. No issues since some 20 years ago and a couple of refrigerators since. Hated dumping the $$$.$$ to have the backflow tested every spring. So I got the license to do it myself. I also did this 2” thing on both hot and cold supplies at the washing machine, but did have to keep the little ones in the washer hose attachment and drain box. Yes water flow dynamics are interesting aren’t they. Went ahead and put the little ones at the dishwasher also. Pretty much everywhere an electrically actuated valve was. The most interesting water hammer we had was a loose washer in the hot water valve for a bath tub. Could not think of how a hand operated valve could do so. It was simply the washer fluttering back and forth at opening or closing the valve. Was very surprised snd perplexed when I took it apart and all I could find was a loose washer. I now replace the washers and seats in the tubs every July. All the other hand operated valves are washerless and they are serviced only when they start to drip. I think that the arrestors should be required by code within 1 foot of anywhere an automatically actuated valve is and accessible by a door or raw space, so it may be serviced, or replaced easily.

    - Very useful
    - I didn't know the arrestors came in the ice maker box or the washing machine box.
    - One you missed is the dishwasher.
    - I agree with you on the arrestor. Using a Tee and a closed end pipe is just as good. Yes, it is possible over time I suppose for it to fill up with water, but if the water is ever turned off and faucet on, it will drain the water. If it is an arrestor device and water gets past the o-rings over time it will never clear.

Will turning down the flow help hammer? Small arrestor didn’t work on my washer. Thanks

If I installed one on the old line without luck does that mean I need to install on the hot line and other faucets on a dual master sink setup before I notice it fixes it?

Hope you get this. I too didn't fix it with an arrestor so I turned down the flow and it worked.
