    The ADA is a good starting point but we need to advocate for more! Say yes to Universal Design!

    This is an important film that all students should have as mandatory information in their US history classes. It should also be mandatory education for all health care professionals. Thank you Jim and Judy for this documentary, I hope you win an Oscar for your work!

    Accessibility fixes an *inefficiency* - it makes access to the world more efficient for *everyone* - and for some, it removes a barrier to equality.

    I’m not disabled, but I’m glad the ADA and sec 504 exists. Still, we need to be vigilant to make sure laws are applied. It’s the right thing to do.

      Sadly I think that while these things may have been good, I have read how this has hurt small businesses. recently in Modesto California and surrounding areas there have been various law suits against small businesses. Some can settle out of court, but some can't, and have to close. the person who does this is what I guess I would call a Serial Law Suit person.

    • @larawalker
      @larawalker 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@elnick1000 so what you're saying is that disabled people are less than small businesses? that you think that disabled people are serial law suit people because they want basic human rights like you have? sure, making businesses accessible is expensive, but it's a basic human right. why give business to businesses that don't think disabled people deserve the right to shop there? they either make their business super successful for able people OR do the right thing AND widen their business for disabled AND those that care about disabled. it's basic humanity.

      @@larawalker there was an article regarding Modesto, I would have to read it again as I wrote this a while ago. Perhaps you should look it up. But what might happen eventually, is that people, especially in California as they make things difficult for people to start small businesses, then only the big chains will be able to succeed. Also as I recall, this was just one person who wanted to sue everyone.

      I think it’s because ADA stalls have handrails and they’re easier and safer to mount on the walls than on another stall.

    For all the flaws of the uk. We definitely have a more disability friendly society. I have a hidden disability, causing vomiting, blindness, seizures, severe pain ect. Having a seat on the bus I don't have to walk through people helps which is common here. They even lower down for when I'm on crutches or if u have a wheel chair! Ramps and push to open door buttons are very common and helpful if I'm weak. We have disabled toilets in most venues and city centres. A safe place I can take injections and throw up in private. I also can wet myself from seizures and now I have agoraphobia because I'm scared of falling ill out of my home. Iv had people tell me I'm faking or to move for them as they are too big. Or that I use a disabled toilet or seating because it's best if I need to have a clear space to have a seizure without hurting myself! This stigma needs to stop now!

    I can tell you my story and experience with being handicapped, denied benefits, discriminated against for being homeless, but I persevered by working for uber, then I have experienced advocating on behalf of seniors who were held hostage by drug traffickers, how we are sexually assaulted and for speaking out against it, we are accused after numerous attacks. Oh by the way I am not Gay, but if it happened to me ad a heterosexual, imagine what Gay people go through too! imagine also how they were assaulted too! That is the truth! How if I speak out about the thefts of my family’s real estate and it happened to me? are ridiculed for it. Oh by the way and being nice about it! How prostitutes preyed on the elderly too! In Chicago on 52md and King Dr. I’m in production too! Experiences are educators to the masses. That way they can learn how to protect themselves. I am that person. I know about the hardships. This is not just a right or left issue. It is a country issue.
