      Agreed. The B6 was a very elegant and classy car, this is where Audi decided to abandon that and go all shouty. It’s worked out for them, it feels like there are more Audis than people but it’s a shame that we don’t get these smooth, understated cars any more.

    I love the B7! Have to comment on this on! The 2010 Passat Estate we have, has no soul compared to the B7. Also one of the nicest indicator ticks and an interior of pure quality. Also.. I had a ride in a Corsa C yesterday. I think you must get one on the channel! For my generation the SXI with the white dials, was the bees knees at the time! I have a soft spot for them and they are a decent car. 😊👍

    Great video - I am on my second Seat Exeo Estate - my first I sold at 225k miles - my current one is on 146k. They are fantastic cars - all attributes of the original B7 with a bit of Spanish flair. The dash is from the B7 convertible. Both mine were the 2.0TDi and they give 50mpg or more on a long run - no idea what I will eventually replace my current one with . My kids named the first one Alice and my current one Miles!

    Interesting that Matt compares this to an E46, when the E90 is the equivalent at the time (E46 was out of production in '06). Comparing my E46 with my brother-in-law's B7, I'd say the B7 has better build quality & refinement, but the BMW has it easily beat as a driving experience. Both (in some guises) run into reliability issues (oil pumps, vanos flaps, timing chains).

    • @denon7474
      @denon7474 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would disagree. I owned an E46 and E91, and my friend has a B7. The quality is completely incomparable. Hard scratchy plastics abound the B7 interior, you get no footwell lights or vanity mirror lights on most models, unlike their German rivals; even the centre console (which is solid as a rock in the BMWs) creaks and moves around when you push it. The dashboard where your knee rests is horrible scratchy plastic. They also handle like they’ve got no front wheels, and have front wheel drive so traction is terrible in the wet. They’re really not very good cars compared to actually premium marques of BMW and Mercedes

    This was when Audi still made nice cars not the current ugly, over styled monstrosities! My mum had a B7 Tdi sedan, and the interior in leather was a fantastic place to be! I always preferred the B7, which IMO fixed the bland and nondescript looks of the B6.

    A fire extinguisher should always be where one can grab it from the driving seat as one exits the vehicle after releasing the bonnet, but don't open it, squirt the extinguisher through the gap. Split seconds count as one who had an engine bay fire on a Motorway at 60, luckily already in inside lane when the smoke was noticed. A couple of seconds more may have made the difference between a new loom and a bonnet and front wing respray compared to a total loss. A 1Kg is the minimum size one should have, a proper quality one not those cheap aerosol looking things. Like the extinguishers and fire blanket in one's home one hopes they are the purchases that are never used. I hope you have a couple in the barn.

    Thinking man's alternative - that's an interesting one - the thinking man's car used to be Saab. Perhaps older Audi versus newer. Newer they seem to be company cars, lease agreements/contract hires etc. and the quick ones often seem to be the domain of (trying to be polite here and avoid cliché) those who lack consideration of other drivers. This particular car I think the thinking tag would apply - Audis of this age and mileage often owned and driven by the people who actually appreciate them and put in the work to keep them on the road, not always easy to fix and maintain (ties, auxbelts/cambelts, tensioners, bumper off jobs etc) but reward the effort. (That's what I tell myself)

      I'm about to buy a TDI 170 S Line, it's had the 13D7 recall campaign done back in 2008 when the car had done 5k miles, now only on 56k miles, it's so mint. Not a leak or even a weep from anywhere.
      The 13D7 recall seems to convert the chain / pulley system for the oil pump to direct gear drive...but still has the dreaded hex key. Did you upgrade your oil pump may I ask?

    I had the same model, but the saloon version. It had a radio\cassette (?!) player plus separate CD. It had done 130k when I traded it in (and only because the DPF & turbo had to be replaced and decided more things would eventually start to go wrong) for a Mk2 Audi TT. The A4 was very comfy and replaced a Rover 45 which was very dated for a car of a similar age.

  • @jimdavis5230
    @jimdavis5230 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes astonishingly reliable however, when it does go wrong the replacement parts will cost you an arm and a leg. In fact so much that you will scrap the car. All German cars are very expensive on spare parts and always have been. Back in 1972 a replacement rear bumper for an Austin Mini cost £5. However, a replacement rear bumper for a VW Beetle was £50. Also back in those times Ford spares were far cheaper than German spares.

    • @CUTproductionsLtd
      @CUTproductionsLtd ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really true. OEM parts are cheap, if you shop around. VAG cars, which share so much, are so common throughout Europe and sold in such huge numbers, you're very grateful of it, if you have the rare incident driving there too (only time mine broke down in Spain it was 35 euros to fix - a small pipe) - try that with the Jags I once had. Whilst they're not worth much now and most anything you do will not add value, they can be very cheap to maintain. Discs all round for example on my almost identical A4 to this, were a 100 quid fitted and they are still good after 5 years. Servicing is cheap too at a good specialist.

  • @morgman43
    @morgman43 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    These big Audis are odd cars by modern standards with their longitudinal engines driving the front wheels. Presumably they stuck with that layout because they placed maximum design effort into the Quattro models, where such an engine layout made more sense.

  • @mehrzahl2219

    The thinking man needs to think twice. These engines are notorious for failing oil pumps. The hexagonal drive for it rounds, resulting in zero oil pressure.

    Despite your despise of SUVs you are steadily closing in on my two latest cars, the Hyundai Santa Fe petrol V6 2001 automatic and my latest the 2014 (last Swedish buildt) Volvo XC90 2.4Liter 200Hp turbo diesel automatic. The first, noisy with plastic interior despite leather seats and jumpy if not loaded, the second one, stiff as a bench with it's R-sport design and suspension. Neither optimal for our potatofieldlike roads. But they move when using the throttle and at least the 2.2 ton XC90 is leaner on the floating gold. :)

    • @GoldenCroc
      @GoldenCroc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny, as I was in the market for both of those cars specifically a few years ago, (the xc90 being the oldest ones), as well as the Nissan x-trail. Test drove quite a few.. in the end I decided to buy....A Porsche Cayenne. Probably the only guy cross-shopping that variety of SUVs, ever?
      Oh and trust me, the Hyundai is a fuel miser compared to what I ended up with, so it could always be worse..

    • @Bratfalken
      @Bratfalken 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GoldenCroc oh, as I normally drive around 25km to work it has had a habit of drinking around 12liter/100km. The XC90 uses 8.5liters/100km. I bought the Santa Fe from my mom as it was a relative low miler and the XC90 to fit my whole family and being a Swede I think there will be spare parts for a long time here. But my economy stops me from getting any Porsche despite those having many VW components. I usually drive mine until there is nothing to sell left. Having had only 7 cars in my own name for 42 years now... I tell my self I'm envorimentally good! ;)

      We've got an XC90 200hp but it's an SE Lux, so has the soft suspension and sensible 18" wheels. Rides really well. 180,000 miles and it's needed virtually nothing other than routine servicing and consumables. Pulls a horsebox like it's not even there, and still drives like a new car.

They’re really not very good cars compared to actual premium marques of BMW and Mercedes. The only thing I could find to merit was the ride quality and looks

    No comparison between that and your Mercedes. I had a 2007 A6 diesel and I’ve had numerous Mercedes over the years. Everything about Mercedes is superior (or used to be)

    Love your content, but your out of focus videos and jumpy camera movements is not exactly nice to watch - you have done this many many years now....

    Why you didn't pick Audi B7 1.8T 20V quattro drive? This car is fkin good. 2.0 TDI is a crap...

    Is this a 170ps or a 140ps? Your review doesn't say. Maybe all S Line 2.0 TDi were 170ps?
