Hello. I am an atheist. I define atheism as suspending any acknowledgement as to the existence of gods until sufficient credible evidence is introduced. My position is that *_I have no good reason to acknowledge the existence of any god._* And here is the evidence I must consider when evaluating the claim by theists, and as to why I currently hold to such a position. 1. I personally have never observed a god. 2. I have never encountered a person whom has claimed to have observed a god. 3. I know of no accounts of persons claiming to have observed a god that were willing or able to demonstrate or verify their observation for authenticity, accuracy, or validity. 4. I have never been presented a valid logical argument which also employed sound premises that lead deductively to a conclusion that a god(s) exists. 5. Of the nearly 50 logical syllogisms I have encountered arguing for the existence of a god(s), I have found all to contain multiple fallacies or unsubstantiated premises. 6. I have never observed a phenomenon in which the existence of a god was a necessary antecedent for the known or probable explanation as to the causation of that phenomenon. 7. Several proposed (and generally accepted) explanations for observable phenomena that were previously based on the agency of a god(s), have subsequently been replaced with rational, natural explanations, each substantiated with evidence that excluded the agency of a god(s). I have never encountered the _vice versa._ 8. I have never experienced the presence of a god through intercession of angels, divine revelation, the miraculous act of divinity, or any occurrence of a supernatural event. 9. Every phenomenon that I have ever observed appears to have *_emerged_* from necessary and sufficient antecedents over time without exception. In other words, I have never observed a phenomenon (entity, process, object, event, process, substance, system, or being) that was created _ex nihilo_ - that is instantaneously came into existence by the solitary volition of a deity. 10. All claims of a supernatural or divine nature that I have encountered have either been refuted to my satisfaction, or do not present as falsifiable. ALL of these facts lead me to the only rational conclusion that concurs with the realities I have been presented - and that is the fact that there is *_no good reason_* for me to acknowledge the existence of a god. I have heard often that atheism is the denial of the Abrahamic god. But denial is the active rejection of a substantiated fact once credible evidence has been presented. Atheism is simply withholding any acknowledgement until sufficient credible evidence is introduced. *_It is natural, rational, and prudent to be skeptical of unsubstatiated claims, especially extraordinary ones._* I welcome any cordial response. Peace.
I say this respectfully. judaism is one of the most understood religions in terms of what it claims. I hope you find my response cordial and sincere. judaism doesnt claim to be a scientific truth that can be seen with absolute empiricism. it doesnt get into whether ID is a science etc. It merely claims that it is irrational to not believe in God. it distinguishes between absolute empiricism, something held sacred by the western world, and rational thinking and rational beliefs and assumptions. to do that it looks at many suggestive pieces of information. true, they might not hold up to scientific inquiry, but that doesn't remove their strength in terms of rationality. for example. ID is suggestive of a designer. can you answer that? is that scientific? maybe not. but judaism says that it is rational to see God from intelligent design. Once there is a presupposition of God, it then claims to have a tradition which it claims is also extremely rational to trust. the key here is that judaism is built on free will. therefore it is essential that this is a matter of faith - not leap of faith, but rational belief. rational arguments can easily be ignored. Judaism posits that an essential point of free will is the willingness to follow that reasonable rationale. (the lack of empiricism is almost necessary to enable free will in our days). in most aspects of life, people do not live in scientific terms. they follow beliefs and what they deem to be rational. after judaism asserts that belief in God is extremely rational based on all sorts of evidence (again, which may not be scientific), it questions why people demand empiricism for the question of God and Religion. judaism considers atheism to be almost disingenuous in terms of the double standard that they apply.
@Claire Khaw No. There is NO reason to include mythological gods in _any_ discussion of morality or political policy. I, and I alone, am the sole arbiter of my own moral assessments. _I determine_ what intentions, decisions, and actions are moral or immoral.
@@proudpharisee5303 The claim of Judaism - that it is irrational to _not_ believe in the Abrahamic god - is not not substantiated _whatsoever._ It is not substantiated philosophically, scientifically, or rationally. It is simply a baseless claim. If you would like to provide a sound argument, evidentiary facts, or any other rational reason to believe in this supoosed god, I will gladly listen and discuss your assertions.
@@theoskeptomai2535 The authenticity of Moses is based on the public revelation at Sinai: God revealed Himself to the entire nation of Israel, at least three million people, and proclaimed before them the Ten Commandments. The entire Jewish people personally experienced that revelation, each individual in effect becoming a prophet, and each one verifying the experience of the other. With their own eyes they saw, and with their own ears they heard, as the Divine voice spoke to them, and also they heard God saying, "Moses, Moses, go tell them the following ..." They did not receive the occurrence of that event and accept it as some claim or tradition of an individual, but they experienced it themselves. That public revelation, therefore, authenticated the bona fide status of Moses as a prophet of God, and the Divine origin of the instructions he recorded in the Torah. That, and that alone, is the criterion for the belief in, and acceptance of, Moses and his teachings.
