Woodall Mountain, the highest point in Mississippi has an elevation of 806 feet. While low compared to other states, this highpoint has a rich history. Located in Tishomingo County near the city of Iuka, the mountain was part of the Battle of Iuka in 1862 during the US Civil War, a small but bloody engagement most noteworthy for a weird natural phenomenon. Prior to this Woodall Mountain may have served as a landmark for escaped slaves on the Underground Railroad. It is one of the most noticeable landmarks in this part of Mississippi. Join us as we explore America and go highpointing!

Excellent video. I visited Woodall Mountain last Thanksgiving Day.
Thank you! Congrats on a successful summit!
❤
Another excellent video, thanks! Two points of interests not super far are Elvis Presley's childhood house an hour south in Tupelo and Shiloh battlefield 40 min north. The battle of Shiloh was the first battle during the civil war that foretold how horrendous the fight would be. In that one battle as many soldiers died in two days that in all previous wars that that the United States fought until that time combined.
Great suggestions! I highly recommend a visit to the Shiloh Battlefield. It's an excellent site.

I was there in 2013, and someone had stolen the plaque from the boulder. Glad to see it’s been restored. Thanks for the video!
November 2013 was the first time I ever visited Woodall Mountain. While the plaque has been replaced this time the bench was busted up a bit.
@@RooftopsofAmerica wow. Shame we can’t have nice things.
@@cubanmop This highpoint has a history of vandalism unfortunately.
Just found your channel a this week. Really enjoying your content. Good work.
Thank you. I really appreciate that!

Love all your videos. Great insight and history of the areas.
Thank you, I appreciate it!

I got this highpoint some years ago. When I did it, I also got Alabama's and Florida's highpoints as well on that same trip. I got to Mississippi's something in the morning, Alabama's later that afternoon, and Florida's in the evening.
That is a long drive across the south! Well done!
@@RooftopsofAmerica That isnt long for me though. I'm used to driving from my home (Close to St Louis) to some distant places. Like, my last trip took me all the way to New York City. Although, I wouldnt drive that far if I didnt have stops close to it. That trip, I started at Spruce Knob, then Hoyes Crest, High Point NJ, then NYC. That was all before the HPC Convention in Penn. (Hence why I didnt get that HP earlier). Speaking of, any plans to go to the convention this Summer? It's out in Georgia on July 20 - 23.
Happy New Year to you, your family, and subscribers!
Thank you! Happy new year to you as well!

Wow! Impressive! And to think, I clicked on this link just to find out how to get to this highpoint.
Thank you! I hope you were able to reach the top of Mississippi!
Very interesting video, hello from Virgina
Hello! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the work... I enjoyed the video and commentary. BTW, did you go all the way to Texas to get that 2 second clip of Woodall's gravesite? Looks as thougth there might be a story there!
No journey to east Texas yet! I was able to use that image from a poster on Findagrave.

Another great video, Skye. The nation's bloodiest high point indeed! Sorry we didn't get to hear you belt out a couple verses of "The Drinking Gourd" though. 😆 You're doing yeoman's work with this series. Many thanks!
I was trying to get a singer lined up but it fell through at the last moment. I didn't think anybody wanted to hear the dulcet tones of yours truly. 😁
❤
Heading here tomorrow.
Thanks

Staying at Tishomingo as well.
Great advice
Excellent work as always. I read that there used to an observation tower there but it fell into disrepair. And it appears that no matter what time of day you visit the summit there are always shadows. I visited this highpoint in September in the early morning and it was just as dark and shadowy for pictures. Not the most photogenic high point.
You are correct about the observation tower, There was a tower one point. It'd be nice if they did put one up again. The lighting up there was rough.
❤
Heading that way in a few days (again). Being from the coast, its a treat to see rocks of decent size.
BTW there's only 2 regions in MS. The Coast and Not The Coast 🤣
Yeah, definitely not my favorite high point I’ve seen.
There are some hidden gems in the area but I agree, the highpoint itself could be better. It'd be great if they put in a new observation tower.
