i was very much fascinated by this great artist when i was studying in England in the sixties. I remember hearing in the news at that time that she was kidnaped and i was relieved when she was released after 3 days and said in a television interview that it was" good experience",they used to call her " lovely Anita" and i entirely agree on that. Now after all these years and by seeing her pictures i still see her as " lovely Anita".I'm sorry to know her financial crisis now.
Wow what memories this has brought back to me!!! I'm sure Ed stewpot used to play this on his junior choice program on the radio, in fact I think that was the first time I actually heard it.
Such simple and innocent days compared to now. A time when "Wagon Wheel" biscuits were like Wagon Wheels, not like now, gone in 2 bites. So glad to find this here after it has been going around in my head for 2 days. From the year we got married to live happily ever after! Thanks.
Wonderful song. So many happy memories that I associate with this song. It took me over 40 years to find it in vinyl and now here it is on You Tube. Summer of 68 all over again.
The album is called Junior Hits on the Music for Pleasure label, it does have a (superior) cover of this song and a definitive version of Jimmy Webb's Up, Up and Away. It has an elephant on the front. It's a classic, perhaps the best album ever, in a way.
I remember being 7 years old when this came out and feeling irritated by the utter banality of it. Having just on a whim replayed it, I understand why.
You can't go far on a tuppenny bus ride, probably a yard. To travel from Portsmouth to Southbourne, West Sussex, and back about £9. Anita needs another 8.98 to travel today.
My brother and I had some of the singles of these Music For Pleasure (with its rabbit-in-a-box logo): The Unicorn/White Horses; Teddy Bears' Picnic/Winnie The Pooh; Two Little Boys/The Court of King Caractacus; Mary's Boy Child/Little Donkey; and this one with Going To The Zoo. I can't believe I'm hearing it again!!
Here is the unknown artist various artist kids album featured the version I grew up with. Unknown Artist - Junior Hits Label:Music For Pleasure - MFP 1365 UK 1970 A1 Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport A2 The Unicorn A3 The Court Of King Caractacus A4 Tuppenny Bus Ride A5 Messin' About On The River A6 Up, Up And Away B1 Sing A Rainbow B2 Two Little Boys B3 Going To The Zoo B4 Jake The Peg B5 White Horses B6 Sun Arise
Really surprised about that - Brian Matthew (SOTS R2) played me an even more obscure Anita Harris song last year - : "I Don't Know Any More" - there's a challenge for some You-Tuber!
I bought a compilation album 30 years ago used from the 60's or 70's that featured a version of this song but it was slower but also sung by a female. The same album had some Rolf Harris songs. Anyone know what the album was or who might have performed the version of this song?? Might have been an australian compilation or a compilation of songs for kids ??
Remember Ed Stewart playing this on Junior Choice. A lovely jolly little tune.
Apparently this song was written by Andy McMaster from the Motors, the guy who wrote the songs 'Airport' and 'Forget About You'.
takes me back to childrens choice...great post

thanks for the info. I owned the album in the 80s in Canada but eventually sold it off with my record collection many years ago.
A great Andy McMasters song, even now his songs get better and better

So many great memories of that Summer ❤️🎻🎤🎹🎶
Don't know about anyone else, but that really did it for me.
Anita has had a rough life. She lost all of her money and was literally sofa surfing.
Lovely lady, but I think things have been a little better for her recently. Hope so!
One of the great unanswered questions … the identity of the kid heard at the end screaming “I DON’T KNOW!” 😊

OMG! I must be your brother!
This bring back slot of memories this song does Played it in BBC radio Junior Choice
You must get it back at once!
I'm not into the "things we so much better when we were young" school of opinion, but I just love the happy optimism of records like this. Wonderful.
love this song
RONALDS SONG
Good memories thus song brings back
When I was a little child I thought she sang "we're going in a nitty bug ride."
happy days
Too fast! I
It's heartless the way great songs like this were forced to be performed at unnatural speeds just to satisfy the radio stations!LOL

You should check out the superior version on Junior Hits. It's a little slower, but the third verse is more charged somehow.
