  • Season of Thieves: Season 12 introduced new tools and mechanics, some a long time coming, that further evolved Rare's bestselling pirate adventure. However, as the gameplay possibilities expanded, the game's narrative integrity degraded. Welcome to the Sea of Thieves season where ghost parents used a magic sword off-screen to remember their daughter's arm!

Jeff has some great ideas. I don't even play Sea of Thieves but I love how knowledgeable and passionate he is about the game.

In this episode, we gripe that Larinna doesn't even mention the new weapons and tools. Well, it turns out she actually does. That's on us! While our broader point about there being no introductory event to utilize them (which in the past has been facilitated by Larinna) stands, we'll issue a correction in the next episode.

Sorry this is unrelated to the podcast episode's topic, but I had a question. I wanted to ask if you've done an episode discussing the "in universe reason" behind a certain DK topic. Looking at the DK boss fights against the Kremling forces, King K. Rool and Kudgel are the only crocodile Kremling bosses. Why wouldn't K Rool have more Kremling enforcers, rather than relying on other species the Kremlings may have recruited?

      K. Rool does deploy a few more Kremlings bosses later on (in games like Jungle Climber), but it seems K. Rool just prefers large bosses, and for whatever reason, it's the native non-Kremling species of Crocodile Isle that are more likely to come in deluxe proportions. Therefore, the Kremlings work better as grunts in the field.
However, there are a few enormous Krems, and K. Rool did put them to work: Kerozene in the GBA remake of DKC2, as well as K. Lumsy. Seeing as how the latter immediately abandoned his post when he refused to commence the attack on DK Island, K. Rool probably feels secure in mostly sticking to enormous Gnawties and Zingers.
The real-world answer, of course, was that it was easier for the original DKC team to blow up the smaller baddies, and that sort of set the template for everything that followed.
