Back in 2011 I picked up a 2 pack of F402 for about $8. Then picked up a F701 for the same price. Noticed the plastic clicker end on the F701 & found some videos on switching the clicker end with a F402 end. Such a waste of money to just switch out the ends. It’s good that the F701 now has a metal clicker end.
Yeah some guy was saying that in the comments the other day and I kind of blew him off.. but damn he was right! this thing has lots of plastic inside it's actually quite disappointing and really bad false advertising! Zebra acts like they've reconstructed it to where there is absolutely nothing but metal or brass inside. it even says in huge letters on the package all metal inside and out. but this is far from true I guess they just don't expect the average Joe to ever take the pen this far apart to realize huh? Guess they're counting on people not looking deep into it..
As a tinkering kind of guy, this is my kind of challenge. As a recently married man, I have new priorities lol. Thanks for letting me live vicariously.
Exactly my friend! There are many very quick ways to make this zebra f-701 fit several other ink cartridges like the Fisher with minimal effort.. I would make one of those work or just use it stock rather than spend all this time! but this guy did a great job and very resourceful! Wow especially that rig he made for those threads.. but my goodness how much do you have to like this specific ink cartridge to go through all this work 😂? not me I just use mine stock it's not as bad as people say... Or use my Fisher bullet space pen or Parker jotter...all stock as well! except the fisher bullet has a blue ink cartridge
I've always been one to tinker, hack, and mod, but not even gonna lie, this is a bit much for me. Would be fun to do tbh but I don't have that much free time.
And I thought I was the only one obsessed with the F-701...
problem is you can't chew it while storming? or hand over head on the grass while jotting randomness?
Great hacks! I have wondered several times why Zebra doesn't make a F 701 with a gel cartridge.
nice one! you should work with zebra company!
Brilliant, thank you. Now do the Rotring 600 ballpoint. Oh how I'd love a Pilot, Uni or Pentel gel in one of those
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Had I not gotten used to the uniball alphagel pens, I would have tried this modification myself.

I think I read the other day that you can get a lot of cartridge replacements with the ones now being sold without doing modifications.
Do you sell these?
Hmmm, not actually all metal inside and out.

Thanks for the breakdown. I got a plastic piece stuck in the tubing and I couldn’t figure out how to take this apart

Zebra should produce F-701 variant with gel refill
Thanks Alan! I enjoyed your vid very much.
Lol wow you went all out on this pen
Maybe just cut down a Parker style gel….
Even easier, use a Zebra Surari gel refill.
Or you can do all this I guess….
Ya, I’m good with OG 701
Great video. Thanks for posting
You win! :)
such a beast!
Gotta love that zebra
Why is zebra advertising all metal construction?
Do you know if the f-xmd has a plastic core like this. Excellent video aswell.
Found out it does.
Yeah...this is a $5 pen. This is way too much time and effort to put into making a $5 pen fit more cartridges.
