Wasn't sure on your recommendation for an HDMI to RCA converter. Gijs told me most people use a Black Magic Intensity Shuttle device to do so but maybe wanted to hear some other options.
I just used an old DVD player for this with some dollar store DVD. The cheap HDMI to RCA converters work ok as you're not going to get high resolution anyway ha
Quick question. Does any audio input work. Like say I plug in a Op-1 portable synth from teen engineering and patch in with that to one of the RGB channels. I can hear feedback if I plug a speaker into the output. But no audio from any device I plugged into the RGB audio inputs. Love the device but I just can’t figure out how to get audio to make it reactive. I’ve tried looking online. I’ll try the Facebook group, just looking for some general help.
It does not pass audio through. You'll need to split it going into the device. The audio out is the raw output oscillators that are creating the visuals. You might also have to adjust the tiny trim pots on the inputs. Please email me if you have any more questions drbleep@bleeplabs.com

It seems to be really shaky when using footage from my 8mm video cassette camera into the synth? I have yet to run footage from my DVR/VCR player yet to see if it doesn't shake but it seems to do it with input from VCR players too? Any insight on that? Glad you're using it to make awesome stuff! Unfortunately some devices, like camcorders and old video game systems, put out a sync pulse that the 3trins can't quite latch on to. Running it through any old VCR should make it more stable.
In short no, sorry. That's what the CV/audio inputs are for but there's nothing on the device that can read a sync signal. You can only plug external gear into the header is it's at the correct voltage level (about 0-1V). anything more that that will damage it. Just plugging the audio out of the PO into one of the inputs would look good though!
Bleep Labs I saw a video of someone who managed to sync the BPM of a Korg Monotribe with the scrolling effect of the 3trins. How did they accomplish this? Is it compatible with any other instruments since it can't read a sync signal? Sorry for the newbie questions, I still don't know much about modular synthesis and I've yet to purchase the 3trins for myself.
Most probably they were just sending audio to it. You an send audio or CV from anything but sync is different. There's nothing to 'clock' on the 3trins. Can you send a link to the video?
In the description of that video it says "Audio from Monotribe is being multed and used for modulating the 3trins and sent to the video capture device." By muted they probably mean filtered so it's just the kick sound.

You need to clean up the sync signal. I find using an "Active" video switcher (that is, one that plugs into the wall) usually generates a clean signal that can pass the console into a video synth rig. There are dedicated devices to do this but they're expensive.
How is this not a more popular device? Not only does it read audio and video it makes audio as well!

Does the patch bay function with other instruments? Say I wanted to sync the video with the BPM of a Pocket Operator or a Volca. Is this possible?
