The verse claims he was with God when he was created in the beginning, which adds other questions as to whether this is in agreement of ideology or literally speaking. But then it takes a turn and says "the word WAS God". I see duality here and not trinity. So God created the word, which means God created God (at this point my brain hurts). God sent God who God created in the beginning to die for everyone's sins because somehow God is not merciful enough to do it without God being tortured on a cross. Before God was killed on the cross, God prayed to God so that God can save God from dying on the cross. Then God doesn't answer God's prayer to God and lets God die on the cross anyway. To add to all that, God is in every human being that believes God sent God to die for the sins of mankind... I think I've done enough damage to my brain to continue.

Okay as a Muslim outside of this belief, this is what I am understanding. I literally took 5-10 minutes and paused to think about this:
The word is God's speech which can become creation, like "let there be light". Jesus (as) is a creation. He is 'a' word. He had a beginning as the verse says "In the beginning was the word...". The verse claims he was with God when he was created in the beginning, which adds other questions as to whether this is in agreement of ideology or literally speaking. But then it takes a turn and says "the word WAS God". I see duality here and not trinity. So God created the word, which means God created God (at this point my brain hurts). God sent God who God created in the beginning to die for everyone's sins because somehow God is not merciful enough to do it without God being tortured on a cross. Before God was killed on the cross, God prayed to God so that God can save God from dying on the cross. Then God doesn't answer God's prayer to God and lets God die on the cross anyway. To add to all that, God is in every human being that believes God sent God to die for the sins of mankind...
I think I've done enough damage to my brain to continue.

Christian did not claim on him. They believed verse by verse from Genesis to Revelation. From Torah thru the prophesy of the prophets about the Messiah to be born thru the virgin birth which was fulfilled already. And the last prophesy of His second coming was about to come.
