- Permutation can be classified in three different categories:
Permutation of n different objects (when repetition is not allowed)
Repetition, where repetition is allowed.
Permutation when the objects are not distinct (Permutation of multi sets)

Example no. 2 letter b is wrong. The answer shoud be 48.. 3! 2! 2! 2!.. 2! shoud be multiplied thrice because there are 3 couples that can be arranged either way as long as the couples are seated together.. 12 is correct if only one couple can be seated either way..

Permutation w identical objects make me so confused everytime. On my textbook example, there is 12!/3!5!4!
Now what I get confused about this is that the next 2 step shows this
12(11)(10)(3)(7)
I tried crossing it out myself
So I crossed out 6 by multiplying 3x2 but when I got to 4(3)(2) that's where I get confuse, because even after solving it, I could not understand what I was supposed to cross out. The example crossed out either 9 or 8 but I couldn't understand how it crosses either one of those and still crossing the other into 3. I tried solving it the first step straight into a calculator and it showed me the correct answer showed in the textbook. But when I go to the other example which is 8!/2!2!2! And put it straight into a calculator and it showed a completely diff answer... I tried understanding it myself so I got to the third step which has 8(7)(6)(5)(2)(3) now this time I understand how 4 became 2, but what I don't understand is where the hell did the other 2! go? I get that the first 2! Was crossed out already but what happened to the second one??? 😕 God, math textbooks are so needlessly vague.

Excuse me sir how about the arrangement if couples are sitting together with respect to the order of seats. Of course we can interchange the first couple, we can also assume that the first couple could be our set A, and the second couple could be a set B, and the third could be a set C. We can still make order like set A, is the first, set B, and C.
I think the answer for the linear permutation for sitting couples together is 48 perhaps not just 12 ways ...
