Rethinking Godly Sexuality in Your Marriage (Part 1) - Dr. Juli Slattery

  • Far too many Christian married couples live with a secret shame and frustration - their sexual relationship is not meeting their perceived needs or expectations. Unfortunately, they more focused on the mechanics of their sexual activity and have no vision for God’s greater design of their intimacy with each other or with Him. Few couples have ever prayed about their sexual relationship and may feel like God and their sexuality are disconnected. Dr. Juli Slattery recognizes that many couples a poor foundation for understanding God’s design for intimacy - that our sexual relationship is a metaphor for the intimacy God longs to have with each one of us. Therefore, God is very interested in our sexuality and, in fact, designed sex for our pleasure. Juli encourages married couples to have “convanent love” rather than contractual love. Just as God created an everlasting covenant with us, husbands and wives are supposed to pursue covenant love with each other. Juli described 4 “pillars” of this love - (1) faithfulness, (2) intimate knowing, (3) sacrificial love, and (4) celebration. Throughout the interview Juli shared stories from her marriage to Mike, describing how they struggled to experience true a meaningful intimacy in their marriage for 15 years.

Grateful for God's Word concerning our sexualité. I was a mess coming into the Kingdom but the Word was unflinchingly demanding exclusivity and availability. I'm so grateful for the truth of Covenant requiring our all. There were lean years, but 40 years in, it's a sweet sweet place of freedom and joy. All is grace in Christ.

It's very important topic. I just wish it would be more detailed and informative, rather than discussion that goes in circles. For instance, how to get out of place of trauma and brokeness, and what is healthy and what not. Maybe book breaks down the subject a bit better.

Such a difficult subject to discuss in public yet What wisdom this lovely lady has….she presents the subject with such decorum….as someone now in later life l can’t help but salute you.

@@FB.RocksannROUW it’s quite probable that you are sitting on the sidelines waiting for things to happen for you. I think of like playing a game of paddle ball. One person has all the pressure of keeping the ball in play and is also getting all the action. The other person is just standing there waiting to play. Play is the key word here. Play=Fun

I really do think that the devil is behind the messages in television programs, movies, and books that portrays men as constitutionally self-seeking in this regard and essentially incapable of being pure. There are *many* Godly men out there; don't let the Father of Lies fool you into thinking otherwise. It's just another wound that he can use to drive a wedge between spouses if the wife has lingering, perhaps subconscious, fears that her husband might be objecrifying her.
